Early Wayne Due front subframe PS question
Hey guys it been awhile since Ive been on here . Extremely busy which is great ..
I was wondering if anyone remembers the old wayne due front subframe? I have a customers car in that has this old frame under it and it has a manual rack in it. Customer wants to go to power steering but the rack is posing a problem. Does anyone know if Wayne made frames that accepted PS racks and manual racks? Seems like a stupid thing to have 2 different versions . I tried numerous racks only to be left with nothing. Any help would be great . Our customer is looking at switching the front frame just for this which might be the only option just a exspensive one. Thanks |

Looks like the same rack DSE uses. I think Jody is right, off an 80's Mustang.

problem is the IBJ lengths ...easy to change on a manual rack not as much on a power. Buying a mustang rack will bolt in the ends need to be changed...thats being a problem

So I take it a DSE unit won't work? I bought the subframe new from a friend, who got it straight from Wayne. I think I had to buy the rack from Wayne, no idea where he was getting them modded, if that is indeed the case.

Geebus Weld, you got sheet all over the place. LOL
Hey Jason, I have an early early Wayne frame, Might even be a Rasmusen frame. I found that it was different, a bit wider and we found that they used a mid 90's Caravan outer tie rod to make it work. Thst might help you out. |

I'm a "newbie" to this whole car hot rodding thing....   |
I have an early wayne due frame w/C4 suspension/C5brakes. Its been a while, but when I was trying to find out what rack was on it the match was 93 cobra mustang and/or 94/95 cobra. I dont know if this will help you or not but I figured it couldnt hurt. The LS1 pump has too must assist on this rack for my liking. Its great for autocross, but on open track w/higher speeds it will be too twitchy for me. Right now Im running a smaller restricter in the pump, which helps, but I will evemtually have the rack revalved.

That's a problem with running a GM pump and a Ford rack.... There is a valve replacement for that on the high pressure side of the pump. But I agree = it's close but not perfect. |
I am almost sure you could a DSE (24.5)rack(The DSE unit use's 9/16 mounting bolt's on 15.5"center's).Might have to use some .750 O.D X .058 wall tube to make a new thur mounting sleeve. The DSE unit are revalved for GM pump PSI.

just scanned the old "Art Rasmussen" catalog and when i bought my front clip he didn't offer a power rack although he did have some pwr steering hose kits but never listed a power rack....Manual rack only PN FR1502 (Flaming River)
He also offered a "Narrowed Mustang II Rack" PN ARDF 200036 (i'm guessing that's an Art PN only...) not sure what Wayne did..... I like the hanging clip idea....i've been moving my from side to side for years....looking for some chain now...thx Greg! |
Nothing a good old fashioned chain hoist can't handle -- get 'er up there and then just chain it up good - it ain't comin' down! Remove the chain hoist and use it elsewhere!
That SOB was up there for like 4 years... Then I sold both '69 drop top cars -- and moved on. When I sold the clip -- I welded up a stand for it so she'd ride vertical off the bumper mount holes -- in the pick up truck.... strapped 'er in good and off to California she went. |
