Dupont Color Code for Lemans Blue?
 

Hello guys

My car is going to get a new paint job, and I am leaning towards the Lemans Blue which is its origional color. I realized that there are two Dupont codes for Lemans Blue, 5030L and 5030D.

Does anybody know the difference between these two color codes?

I would appreciate your input guys in this matter

So I did a little searching for you. I'm a DuPont distributor. I looked up my my books and the color chip book for 1968 , Which I assume were talking about for your camaro shows a GM camaro code of 976 and a DuPont code of 4908. for 69 it shows a gm code of 976 and a DuPont code of 5030. The L and D designation refer to whether or not it is a Lucite Or Dulux Line paint line within DuPont. Neither of which are available. The formulas are different for each year. Its looks as thought the 1968 formula 4908 has a little more aluminum in it and may be a little bluer . I'll see if I can post a pic of the two formulas next to one another for you. The paint line I'm refering to that it can be made in is Chromabase BC/CC . Hope this helped

Sorry the one thing I should mention when doing a computer search on the DuPont database the spelling of Lemans or Le Mans will yield different results.

Thanks Gordz32 for the time you spent in looking up the paint code and stuff. I have looked it up at www.paintref.com, and realized that the GM Code was WA3962.

Another member in pro touring forum mentioned that the letters can be ignored and just use the paint code 5030 or 4908

Be very careful with this I had my 68 Lemans Blue camaro painted and the paint store sent the wrong color and the paint guy did not check it against the car. The guy had almost the whole car painted when I saw it and pointed out the color was way off the original. He could not dispute the difference and had to repaint most of the car. The 68 Lemans Blue is a great looking color. I would have the paint guy shoot a piece to verify the color.

The paints will vary on paint manufacturer, but any painter should do a test panel before they shoot it for you. In my case, I didn't like the color of the original paint. So, we changed the color slightly and it looks great.

I would like to paint the car Lemans blue because it is the original color of the car but at the same time I am a bit concerned about not getting the right color shade

My 67 RS Camaro is originally Marina Blue. I had my painter shoot test panels and the Marina Blue had a green tint to it, so we modified the color to remove the green tint and made it more blue. He shot another test panel and I love the change now. The paint we used is RM Paint with Rubberseale Clear coat. A friend of mine tried to copy the color, but didn't ask me for the formula. His painter used PPG paint, but it doesn't look that great in my opinion. The color is your choice, so you need to make the right choice.

Is grotto blue the lighter of the two colors? I plan on going with a blue as well, but go back and forth with original colors vs the blues on the new cars I see on the daily commute..what do you think of a flat satin blue?

Grotto Blue looks darker to me, but I only seen it on one truck. I like Jetstream blue on corvettes, but GM quit making that color in 2011. Satin blue is good for the dash panel, but not the exterior of the car. What if you had bird droppings on it? How are you going to buff out the paint.

problem is that chances are no matter what code u find will be useless. The reason is that most manufacturers already switched to waterbase paints and the toners are completely different. the old paint codes are for paint lines that don't even exist. you can try calling DuPont to get the code reformulated(usually done by the paint store) for a current paint line, problem is that some toners are way different than what use to be available and therefore cannot be duplicated. I would recommend choosing a color that's close in waterbase or have it custom made and then u can do a spray out and have it camera scanned. the camera scan produces a mix card/paint code. It is the only way that your paint will match and you can buy as much as you want whenever you want.

Well I got lemans blue paint code from Dupont, and it was for 69 camaro. The paint came out nice but stupit guy at the bodyshop damaged the paint around the window channels during the assembly of the window molding trims. Now they need remove the damn trims to repaint the damaged area around the channels
