74 Nova. Canary yellow with a spray painted black hood and McCreary dirt track meats on the back. I was a long lost relative of Joe Dirt. :D

I graduated early at 16, so I did not get to drive much in High School.

But it was a 1965 Chrysler 4 door Newport....Haha:getout:

Right after I graduated, I got a 1970Camaro SS 4 speed with Bias Ply Tires...

A pea-green (Palisade Green) 1970 Firebird Formula that I dragged out of a farmers field. Looked identical to this...

And talk about your "coming full circle", the new project is a 1970 Firebird that I thought was red, until I removed the fenders... Yep, Palasade Green!!!

I agree DG. But back then (70's & 80's) Camaros, Novas and Chevelles were a dime a dozen

A V8 Vega was rare and fast :mock:

GregWeld 02-07-2013 04:15 PM

I drove a '55 Nomad... two tone beige and Ivory... 3 speed on the column... and then a '66 Corvette 327/300hp A/C PW Coupe... Graduated in 1970 and you could buy a nice '55 Chevy for $600.... my 'Vette was $2800. My insurance was $40 PER MONTH which was OUTRAGEOUS!

HEEP 02-07-2013 04:39 PM

Drove my '70 Chevelle. Still got it. Will be starting a build thread soon. Paid $150 for it.

Mustang GT killin' 1956 Bug with 2110 stroker motor. Ran low 13's on 165-15 radials. If I only knew then what I know now I could have made a bunch of money with that car. I would be willing to bet it would have went well in to the 11's with traction.

Todd in vancouver 02-07-2013 04:58 PM

My first car was a big block Dodge Challenger. In my last two years of High school I blew up 3 engines. Apparently I trouble hearing valve float and thought I could rev it like all my friends with SBC. :G-Dub:

67 camaro 327/210 on the column with a power slide. Navy blue with 14 inch rally wheels. Alpine cassette and 6x9s. Wouldn't fall out of a tree.

Bought a 71 nova 307/powerglide when I was 13. Tore the care apart, rebuilt a 350 and th350 in our barn, bought parts as my summer job would allow, painted it at my buddies farm and had a pretty nice car ready for my 16th birthday. Good times!

waynieZ 02-07-2013 08:18 PM

I got my license on Dec. 5. 1971 exactly 6 months to the day I turned 16. I had a 66 Chevelle SS ( I put more mile pushing it than driving. ) , I had the SS until April 19, 1972 when I found my first love 69 X33 Z/28 red with black stripes, console with gauges and dash tach and spoilers 16,000 miles for $2200 plus the Chevelle. I proceeded to abuse here for 2 years. until she left me. :bang:

Class of "73" Voted most likely to abuse a motor vehicle!
I still have the bill of sale for the Z/28

I had an 87 Camaro Sport Coupe with a 305. It ran great and I miss that car tremendously. I would buy it in a heartbeat today. I want to build a version of that car one day.

DBasher 02-07-2013 09:53 PM

First purchase was a 54 Chev 5 window pick'em up, ended up selling it to go on Americruise with my brother. I drove a real nice mini camaro, you know a 72 Celica:thumbsup:
I had so much fun in that thing, 20R with a 4spd and slotted mags...15.60 at HS drags.:D

I wouldn't mind finding another one...:peepwall:

The kink below is the build thread.

I paid cash for it when I bought it and it has not ever had a loan against it.

Them was fun times...

I did have an X1/9 after High school where we could pull the floor plugs in the front compartment and fit a 15 gallon Keg in it and go to the drive in movies...The front 1/8 panels, not 1/4 panles because the car was too small, would frost up from the Ice...

I went in to go pee and when I came out ,my friends had turned the car sideways between the speakers..

I am sure we were obnoxious and wrecked the movie for others..

That same night I went to Jail for a DUI and they found another friend in the gutter in front of his house...1979....Them was the days...

88 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo - Those were the glory days of used japanese imports here, I bought the Supra for about the same as a home PC cost back then!

1965 Ford Mustang w/ straight 6 (170 cu.in.- a whopping 101hp) 3 speed stick on the floor, cost $350. The car had no carpeting in it. So I went down to the local carpeting store and picked up some green "shag" carpeting. That was my first ever, modification to a car. Life was very simple back in 1973.

looked almost exactly like this one
