Intro Wheels----Good or Bad?
 

I bought a 65' Chevelle SS a couple of months ago. The previous owner put some Intro's on it. Are they good or bad? Are they made for cruising or can you run them on the autocross/race track?

To the Original Poster.... I don't normally say anything that isn't "nice".... but Intros? ... Uh..... well.... uh.... er... I mean... uh..... Well. That about says it huh?!?!:lol:

They're good if you really like the look, if you don't like the look there are a dozen plus manufacturers with very good alternatives. :thumbsup:

Okay............so are they junk?
If they are run hard will they fail? Can they take the load of racing, braking, all that?
Need honest opinions, I can take it:D

At some point I will change them, just need to save up some $$$. SO in the meantime I need to know how I can drive this car:thankyou:

They will be fine for street driving and autocross. If you decide to become Cole Trickle and road race, you may want to buy a set of racing wheels like a Formula 43 or Forgeline.

Agreed. As a buyer, those two compaines have load ratings that have been track proven. Find out what Intro's is...

There are numerous "better" choices. Qualifying criteria for myself was load ratings, fitment dimensions, style, and price.

I've heard rumor the Intro's make really nice looking hose hangers. :D

I'm sure they're fine for street and occasional track duty. Their race-day usefulness will likely be limited by their weight and eventually their strength.

There are a lot of people running track days on cheap cast wheels that manage to bring it home with all four tires attached, so I'm sure you can do the same with Intros....

Forgeline, F43, etc are great wheels indeed. CCW's are probably cheaper than Intro and are a race proven strong wheel if that's what your needs are.

What's a set of Intro's cost these days?

not defending just INTRO ,BUT intro also makes wheels for other companys . als most wheel companys never test there wheels to get race wheel certified .

that being said for a autocross car that is just a normal street car that is driven on a autocross , YES they will be fine for that , light track days YES they will be fine for that .I have seen factory wheels crack and brake on a track day if they are driven real hard .so just check them after you autocross the car and see if they look ok !

He gave me his receipt and if I remember correctly (I'm at work:)) it was around 3K. They are 17x8 front and 18x9 rear.

What about Intro's three piece series??

Billet machined centers, hoops come from same manufacturer as the others I was told.

Or are we just talking cast wheels? Comparing Formula43's or Forgeline's to any cast wheel is sort of an apples to oranges comparison, no?

Intro makes good wheels and also make the wheels for quiet a few wheel companies

I always say...."Purpose built"..... what are you using the vehicle for ?
I've been a dealer for close to 8 years and use 3 piece Intros on 99% of my builds. Those builds are for street driving and occasional autocross (in a non competitive format).
They do make economy (entry type) billet wheels that are less expensive and seem "cheap" to others. But so do alot of companies. The old saying is you get what you pay for. As mentioned they manufacture wheels for a few other companies too that are higher quality, forged, 3 piece wheels. :thumbsup:

Rushforth doesnt MAKE wheels he designs them and has his own line / brand that another company produces.

Foose doesnt MAKE wheels he designs them and has his own line / brand that another company produces

Hermance doesnt MAKE wheels he designs them and has his own line / brand that another company produces

Thats 3 examples of great wheel companies that DO NOT run their actual production. Point being that there are alot of wheel lines / brands but very few who actually manufacture them.

Ya there are a few companies that will private label wheels for the smaller guys. Glad to say we manufacture our own wheels in house

for the smaller guys? hell their are companies that private lable wheels for very big name wheels lol..
