Twin turbo 1970 1/2 Chevelle Convertible project

bought the car in 2005 and been building this version since 2009 and hoping to make it ready in 2013. My idea is to build 70 1/2 version of the Chevelle like the camaro had. im gonna keep the 1971 rearend and 70 front chevelle with el camino 70 front bumper so all the lights will be round.

i try to keep the old story short , this i look it had when i bought it.

in 2007-2009 we build it to look like this. best et was 11.2 sec with full exhaust. First it had 509 bbc and procharger and later 632 bbc with powerglide.

Studio57 02-16-2013 03:46 AM

after late 2009 i wanted to do it ones again and this time with out any big compromisess.

first we sandblast the body and frame and after that i cut the frame in half and add extra steel plate inside the main tubes. and replace all the major body steel: door surface, front fenders, rear fenders and hood.

i have electric boost control so i dont have to have that all in use all the time :) On 1bar boost in made "only" 1050hp

i will have also the traction control from Motec. im using E85 and that dyno results where made on that fuel.

i have to say the BeCool building quality aint the best ive seen.. think this radiator did cost 1800dollars and both sides of the top of the radiator are differend and the other ones looks like child has weld it. We need to re do it!! Under the aluminum top they have saw the sell extreamly rawly. First and Last BeCool radiator for me :guns: :guns:

JKnight 02-22-2013 09:41 AM

Nicely done so far! Looking good!

Regarding that BeCool radiator, was that a custom build or is that a factory fit item? I would agree that the issues you pointed out are....well...issues. I would send them a picture and ask if that's representative of their usual level of workmanship. :bitchslap:

If you weren't in Finland I'm betting that thing would be going back.

that was ordered tru summit and it did contain the fans as well.. i would do that reclamation but i bought the kit in 2009 and now open the boxies.. so i dont think the warranty is still on.. i just have to to go forward and fix it my self.. that seem to be same on most of the bolt on= do it your self items..

groovyjay 02-23-2013 03:05 AM

The build looks awsome and im doing a 68 Chevelle SS

I was going to go with the BeCool but decided for a couple more dollars I opted for the AutoRad radiator, core support and radiator, fan shroud set up and I may say craftmanship is first to none even though the lead time was 12 weeks well worth the wait love it and would never get any other radiator. Good luck with the build

exthose system point welded and just trying to re-locating the turbos.. the stainless steel works SBC turboheaders had some falls , bolt pattern did not fit = did make new flanges to the heads. the primaries contact to valve covers and alternator and powersteering unit= we had to re-done the most of the headers.

What does an $1800 radiator do for you besides cooling?

Well, for $1800.00 the unit should look like an artist constructed it, and you would be proud to show it to your friends. It should be well built.
For this reason, I stopped buying C&R. Their quality several years ago went away, and they started using oil coolers from another supplier (other than Delphi). Their top management split up, and started another company (Saldana), which produced a great, high quality product for our race cars. I've been told the quality came back eventually.
Bottom line is this: there are too many choices today for the enthusiast, or racer, to have to put up with a poorly built coiling unit.
...take your wife out for dinner...good one!

Studio57 03-23-2013 10:13 AM

i argee with you it should look like art, mine was art but not kind of art i would like to buy :guns:
