After market efi
Are there any efi kits that are good and affordable I've seen kits as high as 3600$
My motor is a 70 4 bolt main and built pretty nice with barely any miles so if i can use it instead of an ls swap that would save me some work is there an affordable way to add efi ? Old stock set ups ? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated Thanks Will a kit like this be as good a turn key option as an ls engine ? http://www.affordable-fuel-injection...tem-19-35.html |
Fast and MSD would be the two "budget options" worth looking at IMO.

Do you think it will compare to having an ls1 (350 70 block 360ish horsepower) with the fast set up ? Just trying to figure out the direction I'm going to go |
You might look around for a pull out LS engine with harness. You can make more horsepower with the LS engine, but at least you make around 400. The 1970 Gen 1 blocks were prone to oil leaks, so that will be resolved as well. You will have to upgrade the fuel system, which includes the tank. Jeff |
Are you looking for a throttle body kit or multiport?
|
I'm not really sure just learning right now what do you suggest ?
An ls motor is what ill probably do but I'm just trying to cover all the bases My engine is strong never leaked oil or anything just has so few miles i figure ill look into all the options currently pricing out used lq9s ls2s ls1s even 5.3s Thanks alot for the suggestions I appreciate it |

http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/g...super-ram.html It is multi port injection, but was rather popular in early 1990's. John Lingenfelter designed it in the 1980's. Here is an article on it. http://thirdgenfbody.wordpress.com/tag/lingenfelter/ If I was upgrading to efi, then I would want a unique design than is what offered now. To get something rather unique, then you have to spend the money for a Gen 1. Here is old article on fuel injection, but it give you more options. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/h...ction_systems/ Jeff |
Thanks so much

If you just starting with FI do it right and go to real engine management and those "easy and fast, plug and play".
Dont get me wrong, they do work but you get so much more with systems like MegaSquirt, it last version 3 it is so great. Now ( or soon, I'm not sure is it out yet) you can get up to 8 lambda's and 8 EGT's. Turn ECU to seqvental and close loop, it will know what cylinder is witch and will tune your engine almost automatic, You just need to fill the tank and drive all kind of roads with all different styles. |

Im all for the aftermarket EFI on Gen1 stuff but, Id agree that a drop in LSx 5.3 w/ headers and cam would probably fall in real.close cost-wise if you did the drop in yourself.
If aftermarket is the way you want to go...the Avenger TBI or wait it out for the Terminator EFI. Both will get you converted with the latest in technology, basic self learn and optional full laptop programming. Either can support LSx, CnP, MPFI later down the road. |

Thanks |
I have seen plenty of deals here on the forums for Gen 1 SBC EFI. I got an Accel DFI setup for $1000 used and it's port injection which IMO is hands down better than throttle body. Keep your eyes open. There are people selling off a lot of good SBC parts because of the LS craze.

I'm keeping all options open as I Start the parts search thanks

Do some searching through this forum and you will find 100 posts just like this. All of your EFI questions have been answered! I'm a FAST dealer and they do well for me.. Mark loves his ACCEL systems and swears by them.. For every brand we likely have an expert here on the board that can give you the plusses and minueses of each system.
Coming from an OE background and now being in the custom muscle car business there are several good EFI solutions but it really is hard to compare with the millions of dollars that the OE's spend getting their drivability spot on. If this is to be a daily driver and you aren't looking for 1000 hp it is really hard to beat dropping in an engine that runs a factory EFI system that you can tweak on. |
While I realize there are some pricey set-ups out there I have to tell you I really love the look of my polished Holley Stealth Ram. This set up might be a bit much in price but don't forget there are a ton of guys out there who never finish their projects and you can score a great deal like I did on a brand new un-used unit.
If you can wait, do your research and decide what you want and be ready when a deal comes along. Just my two cents. |
