oh fives....... at all four corners.......from the factory....... |
So thats where Stielow has been. Now that is a Camaro that I would love to have. Its about damn time an automaker started to listen to what enthusiasts want
|
BTW does anyone know if thats on the alpha platform? I didn't see any mention of that in the article
|
A 427 and they fixed those taillights! Yes. forget the new ZL1!
|
Ugh, still with the "Rubbermaid" interior!
Carbon brakes, a 427, 305's all around, and a Geo Metro-grade interior! |
I want of these.Cool.
|
Those tailights are so much better. I'd much rather have this with a cam and a tune vs the ZL-1.
|
Badass! Can't wait to get one...

And a comparable 1st Gen to keep up with this will perhaps only cost 5 times as much and everything is already sorted.
One hell of a bargain irregardless of price. Just to think this will probably be only a little bit more than what it costs to do a full PT suspension makeover. :G-Dub: Its only money right? Kudos to GM and the engineers for building it. |
I wonder what the ZL1 and 1LE owners are like now that this car came out. I looked at both the 1LE and the ZL1 a couple of months ago and couldn't pull the trigger because I still don't like the body style on the 5th gen Camaro. I tried to like it, but I couldn't see paying for a car that doesn't look good in my eyes/opinion.
This does look better the previous years and with the LS7, it may sell some cars. I think more of the 5th gen Camaro drivers are automatics and that may hurt this sell, but they can always buy the ZL1 with an auto and more horsepower too. So, win-win for Chevrolet. |
This is a win for the 5th gen Camaros. Instead of just throwing the z28 tag on an unworthy car, they did it right. The front and taillights look much better.
|
didn't really take to the fifth gens, and kinda thought white and black was a little overdone, till now. Congrats Chevy, well done!
|
I want one but the tail lights look like they were taken out of the 66 Impala parts bin.
|
I'm impressed by the automaker reaching outside the normal "performance enhancements" box, and actually building something that real performance oriented folks would design themselves. Perhaps GM sent Mark in as a "spy" of sorts, to really see what this crowd was building. On second thought, he schooled us, so that's probably not the case. Lol.
High five, GM! |

I think the car is near perfect. I just wish GM could field new performance variants at a faster clip. ZL1 took them 3yrs and the Z28 may have taken 4.
The new Viper lost a race to a ZR1 at Laguna Seca and Ralph Giles came out with a faster Viper in 3 months, lol. |

It isn't competing with European road cars and the like, so which is it that you want? |
Agreed

Would look nice parked in my garage next to my '13 Boss 302! Price tag is projected at $60,000. Would have thought they would have it less than the ZL1 and a little more than the L1E...which would put it in the Boss range.

Just found this article with comments from Mark;

I like it. I'll have to warm up to the tail lights I guess, but I like the front revamp. I liked the original 5th gen though too. Glad to see they shaved some weight.
|
Someone needs to kick the Interior Design Dept. in the........... I'm a GM guy all the way, but they have the worst interiors out there IMO. The new Vette has the best interior for GM right now. I really like this car, wonder what the MSRP will be?
|
Less is more eh?
This is the first time I've felt "I want one" about the 5th Gen. Optional AC in this day and age makes a statement as to how serious the intent of the car is IMO. Trans and Diff coolers, serious suspension damping! Curious why they went with the .74 5th .50 6th 3.91 final gearing. Very interested to see the price point and production numbers.............and how dealers mark it. |
This car has Steilow written all over it - very nicely done.
|
f-in awesome!
but isnt the 2015 model supposed to be a fully revamped car? |

Edit: Looks like the Z/28 has a unique tail lens that really looks a lot like the 69. I can dig it. On the upside, the improved shape and arrangement should make it easier for the aftermarket to come up with a really nicely styled replacement. Overall, I think the 2014 is a total improvement over the 2013. Yeah, the interior could have used more sprucing up, but whatever...wouldn't stop me from buying one. |

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y3/...psb5c05a9f.jpg Ever dreamt of tearing down the quarter mile in your very own competitive Camaro to the cheers of a roaring crowd? Well, if you're ready to put those gearhead dreams into action – Chevrolet announced that it will produce a limited run of drag race-specific, NHRA-certified Camaro rolling chassis. According to the official press release, "The rolling chassis go on sale Thursday, March 28, at noon EST and will be priced at $55,000. Each specially numbered chassis is assembled by hand at the same facility that constructs Chevrolet's COPO Camaro production race cars." For all the details and to order one of these limited Camaro rolling chassis, customers will need to call 1-800-306-3005, beginning March 28, 2013 at 12 p.m. EST. “This is a great opportunity to buy a factory-built foundation for a competitive Camaro race car, saving racers the time of building their own from the ground up and offering them the opportunity to compete with a piece of Chevrolet history, because we’re only going to build a few of them,” said Jim Campbell, General Motors U.S. Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “Add your powertrain assembly and you’ve got a race car that’s ready to tackle the drag strip.” And, should you secure one of these rare, beastly yet beautiful bodies-in-white, Chevrolet Performance will have you covered with all the components you'll need to transform it into a drag strip dominator! From crate engines to controllers and harnesses, racing engine components and much more, can all be found in the 2013 Chevrolet Performance Parts Catalog! |
The front end looks much better. I didn't realize how heavy they are, 3800lbs wow. With the price tag i would have thought more sophistication would have went into the chassis build to bring the weight down. Similar to what they did for the ZR1 Vette.
|
This sets up the obvious sequel as the car to do head to head battle with Stielow's Mayhem as a followup to the ZL1 vs Red Devil shootout.
Mark, are you reading this? |

Not the best quality but this is the real deal form the jacob javits autoshow in NYC
|
Wow, that chin spoiler that does look huge in the pic. Does it look that big in person?
That paint does look pretty trick. Looks like a matte white with metallic flakes. |
I just saw it at the NY Auto Show and it is very striking. The paint looks like a satin pearl. Overall, the car is beautiful. I really like it.

There have been talks of doing another shoot-out between one of my Camaros and the new Z/28 next year. It should be fun. Mark |
I am a Mustang guy but have to admit this thing is AWESOME! I love the idea of N/A power, carbon brakes, recaro a, come on.
The Porsche boards are Aflac talking about this car. Everyone is very excited. |
I see trouble in the future for Stielow's antique crap.:disgusted:
