Body Mounts - Solid / Poly / Rubber
 
Ok guys,
I'm at a point where I am ready for body mounts. I have already modified the frame and ready to install the body. What mounts are best. I have a set of rubber and poly, now I'm seeing solid out there for my Chevelle. What should I go with?

We have done them with both the energy suspension bushings and custom aluminum body bushings..... in theory the poly is supposed to be better for cutting some vibration/noise transfer, but I would venture to guess you really wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Only drawback with a chevelle is that there are so many mounts required, it gets costly to machine a set.

My suggestion is use the poly ones. Don't bother with the stockers, you will have a headache with our body reinforcement bushings and clearances. The "stock" rubbers I can't even get them to fit into a stock, unmodified frame hole. Seems they aren't that great. The poly ones work great.

I noticed that on the rings you sent with your kit. I could not get them to fit. Did you come up with solid mounts? I thought I saw something on your site about them. You want to PM me a price?

I have also thought about taking the rubber one to a machine shop and have them make some aluminum ones for me.

I went with the poly units. They are very dense, and as said above, you probably would not be able to tell the difference between the poly units, vs. the billet units, from the drivers seat.

I went from worn out stock rubber bushings to solid aluminum. There were four bushings between the subframe and chassis and two bushings between the core support and sub frame (gen 1 camaro). After changing out all six original rubber bushings to solid aluminum I noticed a big difference in the way the car felt going down the road, and especially while cornering. The car felt much more stable in straight line and more precise on the steering.

I was not sure which way to go when I made the switch... and I was concerned about vibration or extra noise with the aluminum... but it is not a problem at all. If I had to do it over I would still go with aluminum. You probably couldn't go wrong with either poly or aluminum.

My Energy poly bushings make noise when torquing the chassis such as entering a driveway at an angle. I'd suggest greasing them before install.

I think ABC performance makes the solid mounts for the Chevelle, you might check them out.

I will shoot you a price on aluminum ones, we just got a CNC lathe so we can drop the price considerably due to time needed to crank em out!

If you can wait a little bit till its setup, I will hook you up!

Just let me know price and time frame. I can set the body with rubbe and go back and replace with the aluminum ones later. I just can't fit fenders and stuff until I get whatever I am going to use.

For sure, I understand how it goes! It will take us a bit of time to setup the new HAAS lathe and get them cranking out. I will see if our machinist wants to do another set by hand in the time being. Maybe we can work something out if your willing to "test".

I will do my best, give me till monday afternoon to get an answer!

Tyler, I've been looking for solid mounts for my 67 Belair. Would these fit? I'd be willing to buy a rubber set and send them to you but now, after reading, I don't know how accurate they'd be in assessing.

I'm sure we could work something out. What kind of testing would you need feedback on? Believe me I will have plenty of time. I do want to get the body back on in the next week or so, but I want need solid for that.

The polys will ride a little better the solids will give you a little bit better feedback.

ok all, thanks for the input. I ended up with the ABC performance solid mounts. Getting ready to set the body back on. However, I do have a question on the radiator support. Does anyone have a picture of the stock hardware that is used to bolt this on? It has been many years since I have seen this and my memory is failing. :rolleyes: I am remembering a sleeve and have been told by 64pontiac that there is a sleeve that goes in the mounting. I can't seem to find this in a reproduction catalogs.

Body mounts
 
I would use rubber body mounts on the street (They ride better) you have to remember our "wonderful roads,rail crossing etc.And regreaseable urethane bushing for the rest of the suspension.
