Silver Legacy RS Seventy 1/2 Camaro
Wanted to share another project that I have been building.
I found this 70 1/2 RS Camaro that a guy had installed a HO 350 chevy engine and a new 400 tranny but it was not painted just in primmer and I decided this would be a good start to a 2nd Gen build that I always wanted to do. Took it down to bare metal and found all kinds of hidden problems. Someone had rearended the car at some time not real bad just pushed the rear roll pan area in about 3" and they just filled it with BONDO!! So the first thing was to find the parts to repair this problem. Here is a picture of the car in bare metal. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...1970Camaro.jpg Found a stock rear section of a wrecked Camaro at a junk yard for $200 and got it back to the shop to install the used section on the car. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...S/Img00331.jpg Here is the rear section where all the bondo was after it was ground out. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...S/Img00161.jpg As you can see it was pretty bad and needed to be replaced. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...S/Img00521.jpg The back was drilled to remove the damaged metal and the new one would be installed. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...S/Img00531.jpg This Camaro will get all kinds of cool little treatments. I will be installing DSE suspension with Baer six piston brakes and Intro Custom wheels wraped by BFG 18" KDW tires. The body mods will be Corvette C6 door handles, a shorter that stock rear spoiler, a half way across the front lower front spoiler, filled side marker lights and tucking in the front and rear bumpers. It will be painted Mercedes silver with a single charcoal stripe and black interior. It will have a Greening Auto custom fiberglass dash with custom mods to the gauge area and the AC ducts. We will use a set of Classic Instrument Gauges and a Kicker stereo system with a RideTech Tiger Cage to keep me safe and be able to use a five point harness for AutoCross. I will be adding pictures as we go along for you guys to see. Thanks for checking it out.:confused59: Goodguy Ed |
Damn Ed... 3 Babies on the way congrats :D

Nice project.

Camaro update
Jay, I know 3 at once, I am a fool.
Marty, This will be my Driver/AutoCross car is the plan. This way DSE can use it when they come out to the left coast if needed. Chris and Wayne glad you like it and I will add some pictures so you can see the front bumpers and the 1/2 spolier so it will make sense. Here is the cuts to the front fenders and lower valance. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...S/Img00841.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...S/Img01011.jpg Here is where we are adding the metal to make the bumper flush and almost gives it a sticking out effect. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...S/Img01101.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...S/Img01191.jpg Now you can see how the lower spoiler is going to only go over to the center section and not all the way across. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...S/Img01231.jpg The bumper turned out pretty cool and the marker is filled along with the seam from the headlight to the front marker light to the grille. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...S/Img01261.jpg Now to get started on making the spolier both front and rear out of metal...:headscratch: Goodguy Ed |
ed i've seen these pics before......any reason your arent mentioning the builder ? :headscratch:
i am a HUGE fan of giving credit where credit is do regardless if you like the person or not. |
|
It looks nice , first time I've seen recessed bumper on the front of a second gen. Cool.
|
Front Spoiler
Here are the pictures of the front spoiler in metal.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...0Camaro007.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...0Camaro006.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...0Camaro008.jpg Wanting to make the spoiler shorter and not all the way across as this is getting lowered and is a driver so i did not want to make the metal spoiler every time it gets close to a curb. If this hits I should not be going over it. Rear Spolier then off to the painter. |
doors
The Camaro got a set of C6 corvette door handles. I know this has been done before, but I like the look of them on the second gen Camaro's.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...0Camaro001.jpg Here is the rear spoiler. just slightly lower than the short second gen spoiler. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...0Camaro004.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...0Camaro002.jpg Here is the detail shot of the end of the spoiler. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...0Camaro003.jpg Ready for paint. |
I really like the rear spoiler. A Lot !!
|
Really nice Ed. Who is making this one reality?
|
Looking good. Those door handles look like they could have, or should have come from the factory.
|
I think those are C5 door handles - looking good!
|
Engine & Suspension
Marty, Glad you like the rear spoiler. I wanted something shorter that the stock mid height spoiler so this is what we came up with.
Wayne -The handles are C5 and they do look like they were for this shape of car with the body lines. Well the guy I got this from had installed the new motor and tranny but after the car was in primer and the over spray was real bad as you can see. I was going to pull the motor but thought since all the suspension was coming off and all the new parts would be installed that once I got it down to nothing I could just paint the sub frame. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3bdb3dcb.jpg Here is the start of putting on the Vintage Air Front Runner, New water pump and spacers. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psbeefd792.jpg Here is the upper section all together before it bolts to the water pump. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2647fdf4.jpg Vintage Air does a great job on making all this real tight and compact. I like the way the lines are all hidden as much as you can. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psc8e71ec4.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps163c483a.jpg Here is how this all looks on the front of the engine. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psbc44a5f4.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psafb17afc.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psa018be59.jpg Now it is time for the Baer Brakes and the DSE suspension parts to go on this project. :ups: Goodguy Ed:thumbsup: |
That looks great on there.
|
The DSE suspension will make this 2nd Gen corner and perform great. I am installing the front kit with A-Arms, Coils, sway bar and the DSE shocks.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps60fec62e.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps32133e1e.jpg Greasable sway bar so it does not ever make any noise. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps62d0cd74.jpg Now it is Baer Brakes time..6 Piston front and rear. Silver to match the cars color with the red letters. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2c1e02dd.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psc52483fd.jpg Like the way the Baer Brakes come with all the items needed to make this one professional kit. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps552cf35d.jpg OK now to see the brakes with the new Intro wheels. I did a custom powder coating to the center of the wheels to match the stripe that will be on the car. The outer hoop is brushed with a roller lip. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps694d2466.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psd3a8989c.jpg Got the BFGoodrich tires mounted. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psc491db26.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...pse57a93be.jpg Little more work to go. Goodguy Ed |
Looking good, the small changes make a huge difference on the car. Do you have any more pics of the wheels and tires mocked up on the car? I am debating using almost the same wheels on my 72.
|
Looks great.
|
It looks great. DSE makes some awesome parts.
|
Nice!

David and Wayne, glad you like the car. David, we will have to get it setup for AutoCross soon! This 2nd Gen is coming along great, hope to have it at an event soon. Goodguy Ed. :thankyou: |
Here is the Camaro in Paint with the wheels and tires on. I think the wheel centers are a great contrast with the hood stripe.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps76599805.jpg Here is a view of the whole car. Still waiting on some parts and the interior needs finished. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...70Camaro02.jpg Here is a close up of the wheel and tire and the way the bumper and spoiler turned out. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...70Camaro01.jpg The paint looks great, still have to color sand and buff after it is all together. Coming along.....Ed |
The car looks awesome. Thanks for posting updated pics.
|
Looks great. That was quick
|
What are the specs on the wheels and tires?
|
The paint looks great, I like the stripes.

Wayne and Jay, Thanks for the comments on the Camaro. It is all the little things now to get this finished. Installing the TigerCage from RideTech along with some Marquez items and the Jesse Greening Dash with Classic Instrument Guages. Looking at getting this to an event soon. Time to AutoCross!!!:drive: |
Looks great. Silver is a good choice for early 2nd gen camaros. I love it!
|
Trey,
Thanks for checking it out. Still have a lot of work to go but it is coming around. Used the hole punch to make the Radiator cover and a cover for around the hood latch. The over flow tank cover just sticks through it. Picture is from my phone so not real good. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps11a69b5e.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psa6bc48a1.jpg Carried the same holes into the trunk with the battery stand that I built for the center of the trunk. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...pscc423def.jpg More up dates soon, Thanks for checking it out. Goodguy Ed |
Ed the pictures have been great up until today's post. Looks like you've been hanging out with Kenny Davis. Are you sure he's not taking the pictures for you.
ps I really like the front spoilers on this car. Quote:

Marty, Hey had Kenny taking those with his dirty lens cell phone...
Glad you guys like the spoiler. Wiring going on and installing the RideTech roll cage. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psabe144ed.jpg All the AC lines are run through the inner fender. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psf58860b7.jpg Here is a better shot of the enegine and the cover with the holes over the radiator. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9c0bd6c3.jpg Got the DSE wiper kit installed also. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5536b8ba.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...pseee47031.jpg Vintage Air AC installed, added two speakers to the center of the dash and have most of the wiring done. http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psb5a8aced.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psece037bd.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psd7fb88a6.jpg Now the Greening Auto Dash and the interior... Ed  |
Greening Dash
Here is the Greening dash getting fitted. the dash section for the gauges was custom made for the Classic Instruments Gauges.
http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps86997f9d.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...psebc60612.jpg http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/...ps63b1994d.jpg As you can see the fiberglass dash is some work but will never curl up in the sun from age. The stock under dash trim goes on the bottom and requires a little work to make this all fit and look good. Now it can be painted matte black to match the interior. Almost time to biutton this up and start driving it... Goodguy Ed |
Nice progress, its going to look good.
|
Nice job Ed can't wait to see this one finished up!
|
I really like the Greening Dash a bunch. Do you happen to have pictures of how you mounted it.
|
Marty,
There is a little work involved but when you get it all in it looks really good. There is places for studs to go through the stock dash metal but you need to add to this metal to make it all fit really good. Getting the stock underdash parts to fit involved adding some aluminum to them to fill in the area between the new dash and the stock plastics. I would suggest that you do it before paint and glass for sure. I did this with the glass in and made more work for me. Wayne and Rick, glad you like the project and how it is going. I am really tring to have it at the event in June but not sure if it will be done. I have it over at Cotati Speed Shop right now getting the last items done. Zane is painting the dash and finishing up some wiring and interior items. Hope to be driving it in the AutoCross...We will see. Goodguy Ed |
Dash looks nice Ed
|
Hey Jonathan, glad you like it. Now we have to get the Classic Instrument guages all in and working. I think we are going to just matte black the fiberglass and the aluminum may get a textured matte black.
I will get some finished pictures as soon as I get it back from Zane. We missed the Goodguys event this past weekend as the interior guy was behind and did not get it done in time..no biggie as there are plenty more to show this off at and drive the AutoCross. Goodguy Ed |
