Anyone deal with Nelson Racing Engines?

I'm looking at pulling the trigger on a NRE TT BB has anyone dealt with them? Marty showed me a listing on PT.COM someone selling one still at NRE getting finished. Talked with the gentleman but it doesn't look like its going to happen. I'm looking for any input. NRE isn't for the faint of heart price wise let me tell ya. Anyone listening, stay away from Marty (SYBORGTT) he's good at spending your money!!!:D

There are a lot of threads on various forums in which people are very unhappy with the amount of time it takes to get parts from Tom Nelson, especially after dropping huge amounts of cash as a deposit. I can only speak from my experience with Tom Nelson. I inquired about a set of billet valve covers and Tom told me I was in luck because they were going to machine a batch in 2 days. I put down $1500.00 and was promised the valve covers in less than two weeks. After two months of excuses from him I finally tried to cancel my order. He quit returning my calls and emails and I filed a claim with my credit card to get my money back.

Send a pm to Studio57, he has first hand experince with NRE.
Something not so great and defenetly not good pr

I would not spend my money there...

Dave95z28 04-14-2013 08:38 AM

I would give serious consideration to using Proline Racing Engines or Steve Morris Engines. Steve Morris is well known for their Procharged motors, but they do alot of turbo engines as well.

Mario,

Your experience with your tranny and associated bits still wouldn't prepare you for the too often experience with that company you mentioned.

There are several other people who can do what you want and EXCEED YOUR EXPECTATIONS! :)

Sieg 04-14-2013 08:02 PM

Mario - Have you talked to Jeff Schwartz?

DOOM 04-14-2013 08:42 PM

I have received a ton of PM's on this company and not one good! Looks like I will be passing on NRE . I was tempted to email them but what's the point? I planed on making the gentleman on PT.com an offer on his NRE TT but the motors not done. So I see a disaster waiting to happen. Communication and Customer service seem to be a major issue and I'm just not ready to spend 40 plus thousand dollars and deal with BS!!!!

Mario, maybe the motor's not done for the "not-so-good" reasons you've heard about. Maybe he's saying he lacks the funds to finish just to not bash NRE. Because if he bashes NRE, he would be shooting himself in the foot to sell the motor. Just be careful brother, that's all. Unless the motor is a steal, I'd search other places. There are lots of builders that build just as bad a$$ motors. Other than the wow factor of saying it's NRE and someone spent a buttload of money, you can get equal performance lots of other places and not spend as much.

Mario,

I'd hate to see those nice brakes go to waste.

Courtesy of Steve Morris... :D

transam 04-15-2013 07:14 PM

I was going to buy an nre engine for my trans am but the communication/vibe was wrong so we bailed. There was a local guy who did buy one of the tt engines but he waited forever for parts he needed and communication was not speedy by any means. I would stay away from turn key as well as i was left hanging by them on my engine.

GregWeld 04-15-2013 07:21 PM

Funny --- I've heard NOTHING but BAAAADDDDD things about Turn-Key Engines....

My money would go to the folks at MAST Motorsports --- or ---- Thompson that builds the motors for "the Stieigilow" and Charley. Nobody puts an engine through more real world workouts than those two Jackasses (to steal a car name...LOL)

transam 04-15-2013 07:23 PM

The sad thing is the shop that ordered it for me bought 4 engines from them. You would think that meant something. Oh well. You live and learn

If only they made a little larger ProCharger it would be just about right...

Not being frustrated with NRE... another benefit of being broke I guess

Ken

I have no personal experience with AES, but I know they have a really good rep on a few of the other boards I'm on.

I have Mast Motorsports' 416 black label in my 63 and love it. They have a great reputation, delivered on time, dyno the engines before delivery and have provided great customer service.

My vote also goes to Thomson Automotive -- although I didn't get my setup from Brian it felt like it from the service I recieved! And Brian helped me right before SEMA, I still tell my customer service storey to anyone I can becuase the service he provided stands out that much!
