Backyard Buddy lift
 

Does anyone have one of these lifts or know of anyone that has it. I'm wanting to know pros/cons, etc. They seem to be nicely made lifts.

Charley has one. I think it's nicer than my Eagle 7000XLT. Definitely faster going up. If I had a "re-do" that would be the one I would buy.

Thanks for replying Jody. I did a search and saw where Charley had one.

Charley...which model do you have? What accessories do you have or recommend (casters,etc)? I'm 6'3" and thought about getting the slightly taller one that has 71 1/2" clearence.

I love it. Get the extra height one since you are tall and get 220 volt motor to make it lift faster. Also casters for moving it and a sliding jack that I assume they now sell.

A couple things to remember.
One, the regular height ones require about 11.5' of headroom to clear the ceiling with a car as high as possible.
Two, don't forget garage door clearance issues
Three, none of these where really designed to do major repairs with, they are somewhat wobbly when you really shake them with a car up. I would not use one without it being secured to the floor, just me.
Not all lifts, like everything else are built equally. Don't fall for that "ours is just as good, but cheaper" crap. Research before you buy. I like mine too, for storage, great space saver. :thumbsup:

I have an old Stinger. I Like the locking system on the Backyard buddy better. Get extra height if you have the room.

You know, I'm 6'5" tall, so I got the tall one too. But I've found that I never use it at it's max height anyway. The car is higher than the lift and the top 2-3 stops are just too tall to work on many things.

What kind of heavy work are you talking about ? Mine is not bolted down and it doesn't worry me.

What are they worth ?

I was not planning on bolting it down either. I was at the Charlotte, NC auto fair Friday and saw a live demo and it looked very sturdy not bolted down, especially compared to the cheaper one another company had at the show.

I'm sure bolting it down would help the sturdiness of the lift, but I like the mobility factor.

I bought a PerfectPark 7000 4-poster. Very sturdy in my opinion. Jack trays are indispensable as are aluminum ramps! I have 10' ceilings and it's barely enough for the camaro so I can stand. Then again, I'm under 6'!

I wish I had the space for one :( .

A friend of mine has a backyard buddy (Boy...that doesn't sound too good, does it?...depending on your point of view...)

Anyways, the construction on it is quite beefy compared to many others that I've seen. The power unit seems to be more powerful than most as well and the lifting speed is faster, as a result...He bought his with the giant casters/wheels for moving it around. It moves around really nice.

The way I determine which lift is best for your needs is pretty much like this:
2 post- for working on cars, doing brake, suspension, trans, and rear end work.
4 post- For alignments, SFC and storage.

If you need any real world measurements, My lift is in a 22x22 garage with an 8 foot door, Let me know.

Thanks Jimbo. My garage is 26x26 with 9' door. I'm more concerned about height. I am wondering how high I can go without interfering with my garage door opener and tracks. Send me some pics if you can.

Hey!

Sorry I missed you at the Auto Fair. My wife had to go out of town.

Anyway I am considering a lift in my garage and to gain extra clearence you can run the garage door track all the way to the ceiling and make a braket and mount your garage door opener verticalyl down the side...that is my plan. Call a garage door installer and see if it can be done with yours.
