Looking for????

So guys my Camaro is gone (well it gets picked up Friday) so I'm looking for some ideas on something to get into next? I want to get something that needs maybe just a drive train or small stuff. I'm not doing a full build, I really don't want to do paint, some small body work would be ok and just prime it.

My first thought was a 2nd gen, or a 66 or 67 Chevelle or Nova?? I've seen a few but I really want to get it rolling this summer and take in a few cruz nights. I not looking for the off beat cars unless its really cool? And not looking to do this :G-Dub: either.

So what are your thoughts???

Rick D 05-23-2013 06:50 PM

I found a 65 Chevelle 2door wagon that has a 6 bager in it, most of the metal work is done??? Thought??

garickman 05-23-2013 06:58 PM

Wagons are cool!!

Biased, but YES!

craig510 05-23-2013 07:54 PM

If you want something a little different, build a falcon. Most of the Mustang stuff fits and you will get a lot of attention at the shows.

Any type of 2 door wagon is cool too.

Rick,

You mentioned just 'Shivys'?

Any other makes your considering?

What's your budget?

What motors/trannies would you use?

You mentioned cruise nights. What else will it be used for?

CRCRFT78 05-23-2013 10:12 PM

I say grab the wagon. Its a 2 door which should hold some value when your ready to sell and they're just cool. Something you won't see at every show you attend.

Falcons are cool but as with everything I ever have I will sell it at some point and it really won't bring back out what I put into it. Not saying I'm trying to build it to make money, but I don't want to lose money or have to wait to that one person that wants comes along.

Skip I just know Chevys not saying I not open to other models?? Buick's are cool, 67 Fairlane, I really like them (Keep movin Rob :peepwall: ) but either their all junk or way over priced.

Budget, for the whole deal is 12 to 15k?? That includes the car. Again I'm not doing a full over the top build, from what I've seen already I should be able to get into something in the 7 to 8k range then a few grand for some upgrades.

Motor and trans?? Again depending on if comes with any, I have a nice 396 that I can use. I also have a great connection for a modern drivetrain as well. A Nova with a 5.3 and over drive auto would make for a nice cruser?

As for use, not saying I won't hit an auto cross or something like Motorstate but it's not a track car.

That's kinda what I was thinking about with the 2 door wagon? I can get into very reasonable and it does run and drive, although not street worthy. You would think that the 2 door wagons would bring good money, but as has been stated before just because they didn't make a lot of them doesn't make worth more money. When you see them listed they alway put the build number to show how that they didn't make a lot. The one I found that's for sale, he has another one that's restored and he can't get 20k for it. And he has WAY more in it then that. That's why I think he's trying to sell this one as he's seen that they are cool but don't think you can MAKE money on them.

I remember seeing them as a 'yute when they first came out. Few were built early on of course so it was a real treat to catch a glimpse of an amazing factory car like that.

DOOM 05-24-2013 06:07 AM

A nice 69 Camaro!!!:action-smiley-027:

Not trying to sell it --- but would...

I've got a '56 Nomad -- 408 Dart Little M block - 8 stack EFI - 700r4 - Ford 9" on coil overs - Jim Meyers chassis - Gabe Lopez interior - AutoRad dual fan radiator - slicked firewall etc... It's an older restoration that drives great and could eventually need floors and attention to the body. But I've been driving it for 13 years or so... it still wins the occasional trophy. It would take 75K to buy it. I've probably got 200K in it over the years...LOL

It needs new wheels! The left front is bent a little and drives me crazy -- but I just don't get around to ordering new ones.

There's a list of little things that need to be attended to... I just don't get around to them because of doing Rudy's and now Pierre's cars.

GregWeld 05-24-2013 06:10 AM

Here's Jason Rushforth's version of it on some Rated X's....

Big money there.....Congrats Rick, I'll keep my eye out for you. Actually Volo has a 1972 Cutlass for sale, 12k, seems like a nice car for 12k, maybe you get it cheaper. 1 lady owner.

Rick - 2nd Gen Birds are a favorite, might even be better than a 2nd Gen Camaro.........if it has an LS in it.

After my '66 GTO I want nothing to do with Pontiac headers and exhaust port angles! :D

strtcar 05-24-2013 02:05 PM

Rick, this is a nice car:

Anyone got any other ideas on a new project?? What other wagons would make a cool cruser?? Not just GM but others??

If you haven't already...

Since we had then new 2 60's Ford wagons growing up, I'm partial to something like this (for $8250).

http://cars-on-line.com/55522.html

We also had one of these '63 Nova's wagoons from new...

Rick D 05-25-2013 12:22 PM

Thanks Skip! I aways for get about cars on line, I away just go to Craig's or the bay. I found a really cool 57 Chevy 2door wagon, all the metal work is done and it has no filler so I can see for the most part what has been done. It's in the price range but needs more parts to complete so we'll see. I'm waiting for more pictures of where it was repaired.

Scott I sent Albert an email (as his PM box is Full) about it thanks!! Just waiting to hear back from him.

fleet 05-25-2013 03:02 PM

Rick,

You might have something on that '57 Shivy wagon, huh?

Do you like the '55's-'56's as well (non-Nomads)?

Not surprised Albert's pm box is full once word about that T/A project car got out.

If you were looking for a car that just needs drivetrain swap the chevelle wasn't your car :)

Certainly not pro touring but I'v always loved 70's jeep cj5/cj7's, swap an ls into them, no doors or top......

Ron in SoCal 05-25-2013 05:40 PM

Rick find an early Nova wagon and give it a little PT treatment. That's your frist love Bro.

Worth a look...

I re-read the thread and could not find the reason why that 65 Wagon isn't in your driveway yet. :poke:
