Hello - anyone into Tri-5s?
Hi everyone.
I have a 55 Chevy 210. Looking to build sort of a combination of pro street and pro touring 55 Chevy. Looking at some fast drag strip 55s - they all seem to have an after market frame or a stock frame that has been heavily modified. So I am here to see what I can dig up. Plans for the car are either single or twin turbo 540bbc that will live on the street but lay down 8s with slicks and skinnys bolted on at the strip. |
welcome! We can spend your money faster than you can make it!

Welcome bro!! Of course we love Tri-5's? :twak: LOL!! Not only do we love Tri-5's, you'll find out we love everything here. If it was made back in the day...we love it. Post up some pics!!

Hello Juiced6,
There are not as many Tri-5's as Camaros, A/G-boduies, Novas & Mustangs, but there are still quite few Tri-5's in the Pro-Touring sport. Having fewer just makes them more appreciated. I'm building a '57 Chevy to drive & compete in a lot of different "street car" events like Auto-X, Road course track days, Silver State Challenge & occasional drag racing ... (with tweeks to the suspension & different tires/wheels). Welcome to the sport of Pro Touring. There are some "bolt in" complete frames available to improve handling. As far as complete chassis with cages, I'm not sure. How tunable do you want the suspension in your multi-purpose ride? |
Yeah we like 'em.
This one's got a 547 BBC.
If anyone can find a better sounding one please post it up. :D |
Also, here's one of the nicest tri's you'll ever see on here.
It's getting updated. https://lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=41601 |

Seems well sorted out. |
thanks for the replies guys
Here is my starting point. Right now it is a peg leg 10 bolt with a 4 speed. 350/355 (it runs like crap doesn't really matter). http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...27272709_n.jpg I have a road course that is 5 minutes from work and a drag strip about 10 minutes from home. I love the drag racing stuff so I want something that is fast there but not going to lie I'd love to be able to take it on the road course as well. Had giant turbos on little import motors. Love the boost game so this is most likely be a turbo car. Not entirely sure what I want to do but this is stop #1. Some background - my dad bought this car in 1997 from a co-worker who needed it gone so he could have room for the new corvette coming out. I was a senior in high school and took it to school a few times and it sure did turn a lot of heads. Fast forward to now. It basically sits in a garage. My dad lost interest in it and has been holding onto it but now mom said it is time to sell if he doesn't want to keep it around. So now I have it. I want to go big with it so that means this will probably take 5+ years to build. So be it. |
Looks like a nice starting point.
Nowadays you can definitely build a car that can handle even better than most new cars plus still be extremely quick at the drag strip, especially if you do TT'd 540 obviously. :) I'm getting ready to do a '55 2 door post car, and like most guys will go the aftermarket frame route. Where are you located? Also, have you got a budget figured out yet? |
Thanks
I live NW of Chicago and the Roadster Shop is literally an hour or so drive away. I will try and take time and head over to see some of their stuff first hand. Also looking at Art Morrison. Rode in a 57 with one of their chassis setups and it was nice but it was a cruiser (350 with auto). Not really a performance car IMO. Budget? pffffft. We all know better than this Frame 15k min Engine 20-30k (probably more) Trans 5k 2 sets of wheels - one for drag racing approx 2k and some for the road 4-6k Paint? maybe Do I want to mess with the interior? Right now no but i have am image in my head of pulling the benches out and using the back seat area for an intercooler and water tank and converting the front bench to buckets but have them 2 tone matched like the bench is now. Then i see a car like that Doug Cooper 55 that is all stock appearing and drool and that makes me not want to cut the car up at all except for the mini tubs. This car is not perfect - it did have some body damage on it that was repaired. So I don't need this thing to look like a show car but i do want it to be nice |
