Yes I did, another Trans Am

Well, this it it for a while. I have been after this car for 4 years and tracked the owner down. I have been working on him for 2 weeks to sell me this car and finally broke him down. I didn't think he was going to sell it, but out of the blue, monday night he texted me saying he would sell me the car. Had it picked up on thursday am and it was delivered today. I love it. It's a '72 white/blue stripe, black deluxe interior, 4 speed, power windows, a/c, deluxe trim package. It had a frame off done in 2009 with the exception of painting the undercarriage since it still has it's original red oxide still showing. All original body panels (Las Vegas NV car). The original motor was rebuilt by Butler Performance, everything looks stock but the heads were ported, intake port matched, forged pistons ect. Sounds great, runs strong. Tomorrow I'm starting my tweaks on it. The car is so original, I'm not going to do much. QA 1 coilovers up front, DSE springs rear, 17" Honeycombs, install new A/C compressor (134 system), new power window motors, clear bra on the lower sides, detail engine bolts here& there. It's been sitting for the past 4 years so it just needs some detailing.

Sweet ride.

coolwelder62 06-09-2013 07:58 PM

SW,nice find.May I suggest trying a set of Ride tech coil over's.The ridetech's offer a much better/smoother ride than the QA1's.

Rick D 06-09-2013 08:00 PM

Nice addition to the fleet SW. Um I think you may want to fix that muffler clamp turned sideways showing in that picture :poke: :D

Sieg 06-09-2013 08:02 PM

Now that's a proper Trans Am!

Identical to the first one I rode in when I was 14 in '72.

Good hunting SW, that's pretty. Congrats on the buy!

DETON8R 06-09-2013 09:19 PM

Nice find!! Looks like one of the Firebirds I saw out here in at the Capitola Car Show today, except it wasn't nearly as stock as your car.

Nice to preserve those big HP beauties, last of the breed in '72.

Thanks guys! Yes, the '72 4spd is one of 458 built in '72. Lowest production year..

GregWeld 06-09-2013 10:23 PM

It is, thanks everyone for the support:) It looks like it might be awhile before she is done. After talking with Eric@Griffith Metal, looks like we will be taking the car apart to do some major detailing. The problem is, we are both too anal.. Eric is going to remove the entire front clip. I want to repaint the inner fenders, paint the core support and clean everything up perfectly.

okyankee 06-10-2013 07:33 PM

Both of you are welcome anytime!

So as of today, I have decided to take it somewhat apart and repaint the entire car. The guy that painted it did a good job, but I am a little crazy. I keep looking at my red T/A and I want the white car to be as nice. After we pulled the fenders, you can see some overspray here and there.

And here is starts..

Yes he is. This car was a original paint, original panel car so whomever painted it just did a sand & spray. It looks good but when I got it up on a lift, you could see some wavyness in the clear. My paint guy said it would just take some good blocking and then he could make it really nice..

Rick D 06-11-2013 06:41 PM

Nice SW! I love anal people it makes my job much more fun!! I love it when they say oh no I can't leave it like that, and I say yup your at the right place.:topic:

Well guys, she is almost done..Here are a few from today. I have decided to wait to have the stripes put on until the paint cures a bit more. Eric and my paint guy did a great job, really loving it..
