My 68 Camaro build

New member here and haven't made any post's as of yet so here goes. I have a 68 Camaro RS I am building. I bought the car in the middle of a restoration. And thought id make it a little bit more than what direction it was going in. The car had been on a rotessery and all the rust had been removed. First I cut and buffed the new paint and then on to the suspension and detailing work. Crome ,new brakes, wheels, suspension etc...Here is what it looked like when I got it. No glass, no chrome, no wiring, all but the seats were gone. I still haven't been able to get the whole story on where all the parts walked off to. But its getting a new face lift no matter.

Got this to install later on

I cut and buffed the whole car and installed all the glass chrome window fuzzies and headliner.

I took the front clip off the car and began to take the suspension apart. It was all worn out from 40+ years of abuse.

Got everything all cleaned up and smoothed out for re-assembly.

Got my Vi-king coilovers and upper and lower control arms in to begin the assembly. I got the passenger side done last night. I have the driver side about 75% done.

I am going with a carbureted 355cui 10.1 smallblock with a turbo 350. The suspension is BMR uppers and lowers with Vi-king double adjustable coilovers with 2" drop spindles. I did a stock disc brake conversion for now. Hotchkis 3" leaf drop kit on rear with Rushforth wheels.

Smitty68 06-25-2013 03:08 PM

I managed to get the suspension all buttoned up this past weekend and back to a roller again.

Smitty68 08-23-2013 10:22 PM

Thanks guys for the support!! My next thing on the list is a gas tank with a electric fuel pump inside. Any ideas??

Smitty68 10-01-2013 01:00 PM

This is what I am looking at getting any of you guys running these?
http://aeromotiveinc.com/products-pa...lth-fuel-tank/

jwcarguy 10-01-2013 01:31 PM

That is a nice tank setup
The fuel pump is overkill for a smallblock running carb ( unless your plans have changed)
I was told that it is a Tanks Inc fuel tank eith a Aeromotive 340 fuel pump

I went with a complete Tanks Inc setup in my 68 that included a Walbro 255 pump and a 0-90 ohm sending unit and the tank was already powdercoated

Matt's Classic Bowties hopked me up for about $475 for everything

Thanks for the info, looks like I need to give Kim or Matt a call. I am not real saavy on these newer tank set-ups. I'm used to the fuel cell and the ole Holley blue pumps, or the even better belt drive stuff...lol. Which worked very well for the race set-up cars.

tubbed69 10-01-2013 06:35 PM

Give Matt & Kim a try they have great customer service and very good prices, cars really is coming along great

Thanks for the compliment! Its coming along a little slow at this point with the wiring. I have ordered a lot of stuff from MCB and they are great people for sure and service was second to none.

Smitty68 10-02-2013 12:08 PM

Got the trunk all done and ready for the wiring...:headspin:

Thanks again!, Do you have a build thread on the 69? I would like to check it out. I am still gathering ideas for the interior.

I checked your build out, and WOW is all I can say Jeff. I only wish mine were as nice as yours is at this point. I can get you some contact info for this local guy down here. He is well known and very good at what he does.
Here is his web-site. http://www.paulatkinsinteriors.com/

Thanks Jeremy it looked like hell before I started so I am pretty satisfied with it. Next thing to add there is a new trunk mat to match the carpet.

Subscribed, great looking 68! Love the color and with the stripes. Did not notice them at first. I like the subtlety.
Thanks for commenting on my thread. Looking forward to more inspiration, thank you for that.

Thanks for all the compliments guys! It's been a while since I've made any updates. Here are a few pics of where I'm at now. Mostly waiting now for parts to come in for assembly of the motor. But I needed to check the fittment of my front fenders after all of the adjustments of the doors and new radiator support. I cut and buffed all of the front clip pieces so I could attach the badging before the inner fenders go on. Got most of the engine bay wiring done waiting for the engine for final length of wires etc..
