Stovebolters 69 Camaro project

To satisfy a few members i decided to start a build thread for my recent 69 Camaro purchase. This will be a garage built car. I'll be doing most of the work myself with the exception, obviously, of the machine work on the engine. All welding, fab work, body and paint will be done by me, so this is going to take a little time. Lols. Time is so precious for me.
I intentionally bought a base code car so as not to offend the purist crowd. Someone built it as a SS clone with a mild 454/400 turbo with a BU code 12 bolt. I promised my wife i woluld buy a car that was in one piece and driveable so it is in fair shape. Someone did replace both quarters and made a stab at replacing the floor pans but I feel I can do better with a full floor pan. And it will get fresh paint. The plan is to build a fun street car with occasional track and/or AutoX time. I've purchased the complete True Turn suspension system with the triple adjustable remote resevior TQ air springs through Matts Classic Bowties. I'll most likely be going with a stroked LS with a Magnum ZR1 version 6speed. Also installing a full floater 9" from Moser as others have done but still waiting on the 18x9.5s and 18x12s from True Forged so I can get an accurate measurement for hub to hub length. Also bought the 14" ZO6 front and 13." ZO6 rear system from Tobin at Kore3. So far all I've done is install the DSE mini tubs, added a carbon fiber Z28 front spoiler from Feather Carbon (which I really like the quality of), and installed and painted a urethane bumper last night. Ha ha Ron.....thanks. I've been a member a while. Spent a lot of time reading threads here. I don't have a clever name for the car yet. Maybe something will come to mind later, and maybe not. :lol:

They had an issue with the transparent color adhering to the machine finish. They ended up with blotches in a couple places on the other centers. Something about powder coater having trouble cleaning the wheels for spraying due to the machine finsh. Im unhappy about the time it has taken so far. Im just sitting around scratching my backside now until I get these wheels. :bang:

They're made by True Forged. Model was Competition. 18x9.5s and 18x12s. Now if I can just get them here. They were ordered quite some time back. You'll notice......I'm trying real hard to be nice.

They do look good. But one of the fronts are out of round per tire guy. I went back to tire shop and made him spin them again. Very noticeable.

Thanks. Yeah the plan has always been to keep it drivable. Stressing more on functionality verses beauty for the time being. Later I can always strip it down and paint. I just finished a 3 year stretch of body shop prison on my sons car last summer. Kinda want a big break away from sandpaper and paint masks. Lol.

The car has been in the shop with out a rear end for a week now. Its been killing me knowing its not driveable. I put the 12bolt back in last night so I can swap out the front suspension (Ridetech) just to see how bad the front wheel is. I prefer a nice looking beater over a car that gives me anxiety pains if I leave it in the Walmart parking lot. Lol. David |

and raised in Arkansas. I am from North Little Rock. Moved out of the state at 25...24 years ago. My mom, her husband and my brother still live there.

Glad you got to get way when you did. Little Rock has changed a lot in 24 years IMO. Including the Sherwood area. I couldn't imagine living in a big city. I love rural life. :lol: Rather enjoy the sheltered life. :lol: If I feel the need to experience a little of the lime life, Dallas alley and its clubs are just a 6 hr trip for me. Although, I am a little jealous of all of the LA guys on here. But that is for car reasons. :lol: :lol: You all really are a great bunch of guys. I've been reading posts in here for a long time now. It's been hard for me to jump in and talk (so to speak) in the threads because at the time I didnt have my own car. I hate being a bench warmer. Im looking forward to some track time although time and finances will most likely limit me to Heartland or Road America. Im not sure Auto X will be for me. But a big road course sounds wonderful. Time will tell. David |
That car, plus those New Wheel = car done! :) Looks good, the height also looks Nice.
But for some reason I thought it would have an six cylinder. Like an Stovebolt-Six :D |
That was the name some buddies gave me quite a while back. It stuck. Lol. Pertains more to my street rod interests. :lol: Pre war era cars....love them.
