Nelson Super Cars Project Maximus 1968 Charger
Hi Guys, Its been a long time since I've posted. I wanted to share with everyone what we've been doing with one of our projects. I call it Maximus its a 1968 charger that we are building to show off Nelson Supercars and what we are capable of doing with metal. We are working very hard for this to be in the DynoMax's booth at SEMA in bare metal this year. I hope you enjoy the progress photos, its been really fun building this.

Maximus
Yep, She's a cream puff.
|
Dont feel like the Lone Ranger. As you know there have been many cars on this site that have started just like that one.
Whats the plan?:popcorn2: |
Maximus
We are actually have been working on it for about a year already so I will be updating probably every 4 days until Sema We are in the process of a wide body with 18 wide rear tires ,All aluminum 572 tt Hemi, Vette front suspension, Hand made rear frame rails and one off rear suspension.Big Brakes and a ton of old school metal work.
|
Take that thing over to A&M and get it blasted
|
Sweet. One can never go wrong with a charger
|
68 Isn't that the year with the round taillights? :relax: COOL.
Twin Turbo Hemi not a bad start right there. |
Nope!! Pics every 4 days ain't gonna cut it.:guns: You've been working on this thing for over a year and we all know you got tons of pics to post. LOL!! So, let's get to it. :flashie:

Maximus Progress
Okay ,We built a frame table for the Charger just because we knew this thing was going to get filleted up. Then we cut the quarters off rough so when it went to blast it would get everything. We sent it out to Freddy at A&M and had it blasted. And started cutting out the cancer.

Thanks for the pics. Looking forward to seeing this beast come together. Even moreso to the video of the engine in the car burning rubber down the street. (hint, hint) :unibrow: :unibrow:
|
Looking at the shape and location of the side markers in the first pics it appears to be a '69. Definitely looking forward to seeing what it becomes.

Cutting it down to nothing
Okay ,so we got it on the frame table and started basically cutting the car down to nothing. We decided the floors weren't worth saving so we found a really awesome floor section in the junkyard, and cut it out of the car and drilled all the spot welds out then blasted and fit it into the car. I really wanted a stock floor piece because they fit much nicer and at this time in the project we didn't no we were going to go so hog wild on the car. We then just kept cutting because nothing looked good and I did not want to fix some rust and know there was more. So here are some shots.

Going to be nothing left when were done cutting
Just a bunch more rust and a bunch more cutting I really bit off a metal restoration on this one.Pretty cool you can take a car down so far and bring it back better than new

Making Subframe connectors that clear the floor
So while everything was cut out and easy to get to we decided to tie in the chassis with these custom frame connectors.Whats neat about doing it this way is they clear the floor.

Sealing up the metal before the new skins go on
Here we are sealing up the metal before we weld on the floors and roof etc.

What are you guys doing to the white Supra in the background?
I don't see why you didn't use AMD floor, it fits like a glove. |
Seen this car at Nelson's in person and the metal work thats coming out of this shop is amazing. Keep the pics coming

Fixing the metal
Here we are removing door box I guess you would call it. The original was to wasted to repair we cut out a good stock one from the junk yard and grafted it in.

Tom, what is going on with Travis LaBoy's GTO? Any progress in the last few years or is the project on hold? If things are still moving along a few teaser shots would be awesome.
