Speed channel RIP....
Hey all, as most of you know by know, Speedvision>Speedchannel>Speed is now officially Fox Sports 1. Their going up against ESPN in terms of programming/competition.
So this is bitter/sweet for me. The programming has consistently gone downhill (IMO) for years now with the evening programming containing too many shows with "drama". Not to mention the overplay overkill of NASCAR. I used to be a huge NASCAR fan, but it just got overdone, partly due to Speed's programming. I flipped it on this morning with my cup of coffee, and their playing Moto GP (lites), so there is HOPE.. Right know, Velocity gets the nod. I approve so far, but its not 100% dedicated to auto. But the productiion and lack of drama has got my attention. Speedvision used to have boat racing plane racing everything speed, it was good stuff, but probably not enough sponsorship. We'll see what happens in the future with programming, but so far, from what i've heard, "Barrett-Jackson" i believe isn't signed, Supercross i think is up in the air, not sure on the OUSCI, but i dont believe Velocity will air that, their demographics are a little off, but that could change... We'll Speed RIP, I wouldn't been posting this if i didn't like you, good luck to your children, may they be stronger than their predecessor.... Mike |
Couldn't agree more Mike....
Not everyone watches NASCAR all day every day. They should have their own channel IMHO. |

NBC Sports had been covering Formula 1, motocross, and I believe AMA Superbike.
Looks like Fox 1 is going to be too much pro ball sports and jock talk for my liking. The internet may be the source for motorsport enthusiasts. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...418093422.html |
Yep, just a matter of time. Probably just a matter of time before were watching all our programming on demand. I would'nt be investing in cable/satellite companies right know...

I did enjoy the Rolex race today at Kansas Speedway.

After reviewing the FOX 1 programming this morning and watching some of their broadcast it's pretty much ESPN.
I think I'll ask Comcast for a discount due to programming changes and see how they respond. Purchasing specialized programming via the internet looks like the best current option, though not inexpensive. https://secure.motogp.com/en/Subscri...013_HalfSeason |

Watched it DVR'd last night. Good show. My favorite of the season thus far was COTA. Talk about action. |

Then did ya go out for some ribs at The Salt Lick??? |
I don't see it as any big loss. The programming aside from Gearz was very weak. I'm not a Nascar fan so 80% of the air time was a turn off anyway. Kind of a shame. Speedvision at one time was the only game in town.

No Barrett Jackson ?. :badidea:

Anyone remember TNN? That was a racing channel
|
I'm hoping Gearz get picked up somewhere???

I'm just like most of you guys, Speed was done long ago when they became NASCAR mainly. I'd rather see other forms of racing. |
I think growing needs and masses will dictate the demand for a full time motorsports channel/network. Specially through winter when theres no racing on or to go to and our garages are sub-zero, you'd think that marketing was aware of that.
With "on demand" everything is only a few years away, my spectulation is investors are afraid to invest heavilly in this. When the CEO knows the product, can the product move forward? in other words, if somebody inour world knew the market we share, the industry which employ's 100' of thousands, could something be made? I guess only time will tell.... Anybody in the industry share any thoughts? How about our friends overr at V8tv? |
