2014 Silverado 'RSV' SEMA build at Roadster Shop

Wanted to introduce another new project here at the Roadster Shop that we thought you guys might be interested in seeing.

We were recently awarded a 2014 Silverado by GM to build up for the upcoming SEMA show, and turn it into the 'Silverado RSV' (Race Support Vehicle) concept you see pictured below. The purpose of the RSV is to act as a support center for teams and race shops while at racetrack events, autocross and testing events. The RSV would act as both the tow-rig for a race car and the service point, equipped with essential, high quality, equipment and tools to perform mechanical assistance, repairs and allow the team to tune and develop the race car while at the track.

The Concept:

And the truck as it arrived at the shop:

Uhh ohh....looks like we have some 24x14 to mount. :tv_happy: :hail:

96z28ss 09-17-2013 02:44 PM

I designed these with 2 inches of additional coverage. I wanted to go to the style line but they would be too big and cost a fortune. The rear would be bigger than a dually flare.

AWESOME!! I will be glued to this one.
Congrats Roadster Shop! Well deserved.

Why a Z71 if it is going to be lowered? Cool project, I have always had, and still have a love for lowered trucks.

WILWAXU 09-18-2013 08:24 AM

Cool project!

Should be fun to watch the build up on a brand new truck :D

This one is 2wd. With the 4WD we couldn't have lowered it this much. With the new Z71 package, you can select if you want rear or 4WD

Cool project. It's a nice change from rust repair. This time it's a true rust free vehicle.

Code510 09-18-2013 11:23 AM

Is this going to be air bagged? or just lowered?

I know a company that was looking for one of these to put in their booth at SEMA this year....

We are using the new lowering spindle and shock kit from McGaughys which offers a 4/6 drop or a 5/7 drop. The rear is an axle flip kit with shock and leafspring mounts.

Yes!...lots!
Apologies in advance if the updates jump around a little, we have 4/5 guys working on this at the same time so there is lots happening all at once!

Since we cut a giant hole in the bedside, we thought it only fitting that we cover it up again...but make it wider!

We're not going for 'subtle' with this one...

We also drastically lightened the stock hood...

wow it doesn't even look like you needed any machines to make that fender flare, you could almost bend that up using your knee - no shaping, forming, stretching or shrinking required !

If possible, I'd like to see the detail/shape fo those louver fins. I can see how you made the pan but I would like to see how the individual louvers are formed and attached.

Yeah, definitely not subtle ! Man must be a pleasure working on a brand new vehicle. CAn't believe how busy you guys keep that shop.

Wissing72 09-25-2013 02:37 PM

Absolutely amazing work! I was even more impressed when I was out there in July and saw the faciltiy. The quality of work and the facility is fantastic.

If you happen to have a Pullmax, planishing hammer, English wheel, TIG welder, hammer and dolly, and a lot of skill in your knee... then yeah you could definitely bend them over your knee!

I'll see if we have any pics of the louvers and post them up shortly.

Here's some detail on the louvers: The louvers were made from sheet aluminum and capped and threaded at each end to allow attachment to the inside of the hood openings.

Well all I need now is a Pullmax ! Maybe Harbor Freight will start selling those too and then I'll be in business.

MSTSFabbed 09-26-2013 11:11 AM

What gauge sheet would you use for something like the al pan the louvers sit in? Just curious.

Thanks for keeping us updated during Sema-season!

Time for some updates on the RSV!! (SEMA is just around the corner!!)
