72 C10 Wiper Motor Upgrade
Well after a couple of drives in the truck, and it always seemed to rain, I'm looking at Wiper Motor upgrade with delay/intermittent included. The noise from motor is noticeable in cabin (is this normal?).
After a little googling there is some info that says that the wiper motor from a 67 Camaro is interchangeable. Is anyone able to confirm or deny. This leads me to ask would the DSE Selecta-Speed for a 67 Camaro fit/work? There are a couple of other solutions I found, New Port Engineering, https://www.newportwipers.com/produc...7-72&make_id=2 and Brothers, http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodin...number=WPM6772 Has anyone used or has feedback on either? Any other solutions. thanks Roger |
I am interested too. I would like to see a better set up for the wipers on my truck to and adapt something better to my son's '82 model.

I too would like to see better wipers for 67-72 pickup trucks

I will let you guys know tomorrow.

Long and short of it, the motors will interchange, but a new pitman arm will have to be made. I will have a dse motor here first of the week for some R&D here. I have DSE already looking into it.

i just so happen to have a 67 c-10 pt style build in the shop I will be using one on once we get it dialed in.

We've installed several of the Specialty Power Window Wiper Universal kits in C-10's. Right now we're installing on in the Goodguys Giveaway C-10 that we're building. We're having a sale in the vendors marketplace, but look here for pics of the kit. Just throwing it out there as another option if you're interested.

got the dse kit in. although the factory motors are the same, the way the dse motors are done, the swap is not as straight foward due to the way the motor is mounted in the trucks. I will work on a fix and see what I come up with.

Just finished installing a DSE Selecta-speed wiper kit in our 67 c10. I started with a 67 camaro kit. They do have a universal kit but they were on back order and we found this one in stock from a dealer. It can't be a "bolt in" since the stock bracket must be removed, but wasn't very difficult. It took about 3 hours to do.

First the stock mounting bracket had to be removed by drilling the 6 spot welds

Bracket is out of the way

Using the 67 camaro bracket as a template, it was cut to fit. The edge on the left fit perfectly vertical with the motor mounted at an angle out of the way with no interference.

1/8" steel plate was used. This gives the right spacing for the shaft to protrude thru the cowl. The shaft hole is slightly smaller than the DSE plate to seal around the rubber grommet.
|
1 Attachment(s)
The plate is plug welded in place with a few stitches around the perimeter.
|

The 3 bolt holes are drilled thru from the inside. The top bolt is above the upper tangent so it won't be flush. The upper hole was opened up to about 3/8" thru the cowl (just large enough the clear a 1/4-20 socket head cap screw)

Motor is installed

Thats awesome you figured it out, but sucks that DSE is currently not producing wiper motors at this time.
|
1 Attachment(s)
The top bolt will need to be sealed during final assembly with a small amount of 3M strip caulk.
|
1 Attachment(s)
Taking measurements before cutting, the stock arm will be welded to the DSE arm with the splined hole.
|
1 Attachment(s)
Tacked together, rechecking measurements.
|
1 Attachment(s)
Welded and metal finished.
|
1 Attachment(s)
Update complete. Upon final assembly the "park" position will need to be set and nut torqued.

I guess there is more than one way to skin a Cat.
Nice job by the way looks great. Here are a couple of shots of the install I did. No cowl mods just made a new wiper mounting plate. Also shaft extension in order to use the original 67 crank arm witch can be clocked. http://i1166.photobucket.com/albums/...image.jpg4.jpg http://i1166.photobucket.com/albums/...image.jpg1.jpg http://i1166.photobucket.com/albums/...image.jpg2.jpg Just have to make a seal plate to go around the shaft. |
