Best 4 post lift? What do you have?
 

I am going to be in the market for a good, safe 4 post lift. I will be mainly using it to store a truck on. Can you guys post what lift you have, if your happy with it and the price? Oh and dangerous ones to avoid would be nice too.

If you're just storing and want parking below if you have the ceiling height a 4 post is perfect.

Thanks, ceiling height isn't a issue I have a 40x50 shop and I'm running out of room.

We had a Rotary and it worked flawlessly. I have seen a few of them cheaper ones and they scare me.

My exhaust guy has a Bend Pack and it looks sturdy.

I just researched this Tony as a I just bought one myself. Mine is from a company called Danmar (Commander 7000). It's considered more of a hobby lift. I was going to get one from Bendpak but was sold on this one. Was a little less money and runs on a reg 120v outlet not a 220v like most others. It was also black not blue. All the bendpaks come in blue only. The Bendpaks are nicer from what I gather and they have quite a few models to choose from. The one I was going to get was the HD9ST since my space was a tight fit.

I just bought a new (to me) house and got a Superlift in the deal with the 40'x60' shop. Don't know much about it other than it looks pretty sturdy and it runs on 110. They are a local company and they have 2 different series of lifts from what I understand, a Chinese one and a USA one, this is the USA one.

How tall is your ceiling?

What are these lifts costing you guys if you don't mind me asking?

Quality Lifts

I have a four post and a two post from Direct. Will be getting a second four post this week. Great way to free up floor space in my shop. Much less than the estimate I got to put on an addition.

I've had a BendPak for several years. Bought from an Ebay vendor who also carried the Danmar. I don't remember exactly what I paid. Did the install myself (by myself using a hoist). Mine is the 10,000lb with the canted posts and operates on 220/240. Was easy to setup/install and has worked flawlessly.

I have had a Directlift for approx. 5 yrs. with no problems. The price was better than most others and when I saw that SW (Streetking) used Direct in his personal garage for his expensive toys, I was convinced that was the way to go.

Another thing to consider is the cost of the accessories. My dad got a 4 post a couple years ago at Hot August Nights. Got a great deal on the display unit. Negotiated in 4 plastic slider trays and 2 metal slider trays. These are the trays that fit inbetween the two ramps.

In his research he found that the cost for these items vary quite a bit. Other things like bottle jacks, oil drain stands, tranny jacks, ect are sold by many of the vendors that you may want to try to negotiate into a package price.

I bought an Atlas 2 post lift from Greg Smith Equipment and can vouch for it's quality and the company's support. I would buy an Atlas and from GSE again if needed.

I have a BendPak. A 4post isn't the greatest for working if you need to remove tires, but I love mine for other service and storage use. Mine is a high and wide version, and I have no problem parking a full-size lifted PU on 35" tires under it.

If you want to park a full size truck under it, make sure it is wide enough to get between the posts without folding the mirrors.

I have a forward 12,000 lb that I purchased used. It's an older left but t works great and is very sturdy.
While researching lifts several years ago.There was a guy on one of the forums that suggested to all not to get any lift that is not certified. I don't recall the particulars. However, I remember there were horror stories.

Something to also consider if you might have the need is that some of them now offer portable 4 post lifts. I know Bendpak has a model that comes with 4 dollies you lower the table onto and it lifts the post making it portable.

Great advise on shopping accessories as well. If you are just looking for parking space basic is fine but if it is your only lift you will eventually want the ability to take off tires and do other work. You can buy jacks made for the hoist but last time I checked the Bendpak ones were around $750-$800 ish each if I remember correctly... You can also get pans that to sit under the table to protect cars parked underneath from drips. If you have a lowered vehicle you may also want to look at extended ramps so you aren't storing a set of 2x8's for extra ground clearance. Most manufacturers also offer convenience stations where you can plumb outlets and air chucks.
