Looks real nice Payton!

The D90 stripe really "pops" on that awesome yellow!

jonny51 05-04-2006 01:31 PM

Looking good

When do you think it is going to be "done"?

Sales@Dutchboys 05-04-2006 01:33 PM

That stripe makes the car! Good work.....

Looks nice! I like the stripe

Payton King 05-04-2006 02:40 PM

Thanks for the kind words

It has been a long time coming. Should be back to my house in about 2 weeks....then it will be whenever I can find 5 minutes to get out and work on it. I have all of the parts except for the interior. I am waiting on Marquez for their dash and hopefully that will inspire my creative juices to figure out what I am going to do with the door panels. My down bars hit stock and custom camaro door panels, Marquez panels will not fit for the same reason, so it will need to be something custom. So lets hear or see some ideas, but nothing too tricky. My car looks stock on the outside, race car under the hood so not sure on the door panels and rear seat.

XcYZ 05-04-2006 02:42 PM

Looks great, Payton!

killer

any pics of rollbar, thats one thing i bet is overlooked alot when building a pro touring/ race type car that will see street duty, it has all the workings of both a race car and a street car, thus creating issues like this. what interferes with each other?? the door handle or arm rest?? i am making my should/door bars to go right down to rocker bar once it gets past my shoulder to allow me to use reg interior panels, some pics of rollbar would be great
car looks awesome

jimhamptons 05-04-2006 08:23 PM

Looking Good!

Was the hockey stick stripe in 69 called the D90, I know the 68 D90 stripe went down the middle of the fender and door, just curious. The C6 wheels look awesome and the body work looks flawless, congrats on your build so far.

Kendall Burleson 05-04-2006 08:58 PM

Love the color and can't wait to see the finish car killer job

I had to cut and reglass my door panels from Marquez , they dont hit now! Marquez's dash is nice I did mine in black wrinkle powdercoat, it looks really nice so far , covered the dash pad in leather double stiched

Payton King 05-05-2006 07:25 AM

Thanks again

When Jim was building my cage I knew we were not going to be able to run an arm rest on a standard interior. I also have to run the standard door handle upside down to clear. The down bars were built for maximum arm/elbow clearance.

I had Marquez send me a raw fiberglass door panel to see if it would work. I could have cut the glass but the bar ran perfectly through where the new door handle would be on the new panel.

I am guessing that I will start with a flat board and go from there.

Here is a shot of the cage and my inner fender well.

I have agree. The stripe makes the whole thing really POP! Not that the yellow doesn't :D Just kind of completes the whole package. You are doing a killer job Payton. Can't wait to see the finished product. BTW, I like the
fact you are doing custom inner wells. Nice to see something different.

Keep up the good work-
Brent

Payton King 05-18-2006 09:28 AM

I have not been here in a week or so.

Thanks for the positive words. I had to do the custom inner fenders. The subframe is installed on drop bushings from DSE. The subframe from 21st Century is their 1 inch drop version...so the whole front subframe and motor is raised almost 2 inches in the car from where the stock one was. The trans tunnel even had to be raised. The car is very low at ride ( lower control arms paralle with ground) No way was the stock inners going to work. I line-x'd inside the fenders to keep rocks from making tits on the top side of the fenders.

Just for laughs we bolted the rears on the front, 285/19/35 on a 10 inch. Fit fine with plenty of clearance.

Stuart Adams 05-18-2006 11:22 AM

Looks good. Yellow is hard to pull off, IMO. Has to be just the right HAPPY FACE yellow - yours looks great, IMO.

I'll call you when I come to Mooresville.

Payton King 05-18-2006 01:46 PM

Stuart

Yellow is a tough color. Good thing it took 4 year to get to paint so I could find the right one.

Sorry I missed you last time you were here. When are you planning on a return trip?

69LS1SixSpeed 05-20-2006 05:47 AM

Outstanding!!!

Payton....your car looks great! Where are you in terms of installing your engine? We have talked before as I live in Wesley Chapel. I would love to see your car....let's connect. My 69 is getting closer...... just have to complete wiring and some plumbing.

Chuck Grant

Payton King 05-22-2006 08:35 AM

Hey Chuck

I was in your neighborhood just last week.

Motor and trans are in the car as well as the front & rear suspension and gas tank. Should be home next week, but who knows. I thought is was going to be back a month ago.

Give me a call and we will get together. 704-564-8577

Nice!

My old '68 Camaro was Viper Yellow.

Payton King 05-22-2006 11:09 AM

viper yellow

It is a great color in full sun.

jannes_z-28 05-22-2006 01:11 PM

One thing with yellow is that it attracts small black bugs, at least we have them over here. If you park a yellow car it will be covered with these bugs within minutes making it all dotty. I don't know if you have them in America.

These critters probably think the car is a big sunflower

But it is a great color, I have always liked yellow cars.

Jan

Payton King 05-24-2006 02:25 PM

we moved it out...

for a few minutes in the sun. You would think it was a big flower as bugs were all over it.
