Raw aluminum oxidation question
So I've been building my Camaro 20 years (depnding on who's telling the story, lol)...
I have a few raw aluminum surfaces that have oxidized during that time. What can I use to bring back that fresh look? I'm not looking to polish or brush it if I can avoid it, just a uniform 'fresh' look. I have some Zoops when I figure this out, but interested in thoughts about that too... |
That's gonna be tough Ron cause cleaning AL will leave it brushed or polished. You can try that corrosion remover stuff. Can't remember what it's called but it's supposed to be enviro safe.
I'll try to find it |
Thx Brother. Last resort I'm gonna try Mother's wadding polish with Zoops to tone it down...

You might try this: http://eagleone.com/mag-wheel-cleaner

there is the wd-40 stuff http://wd40specialist.com/products/rust-remover/
then evap-o-rust http://www.evaporust.com/faq.html |
Vinegar is suspose to work for some things, Mix it 50/50 with water and spray it on, If it isn't to oxidized. Dupont also makes a aluminum cleaner.

If its raw cast aluminum like blocks etc, and you want to bring it back, or its raw stock like sheet or tube with natural grain, you can use a product called "Toon Brite".
Its a mild acid, for cleaning aircraft and boat pontoons. It works great on aluminum casting and sheet. Doesnt affect the material, but it clouds a tiny bit on cnc machined forged aluminum or polish. But if you are on those surfaces, its awesome. You just wash it off after 5 minutes. Try a marine store. |
