Speedtech's new Chevelle Coilover Conversion
Hey Folks,

Vince- This one takes a 10" spring.
Olds87- A G body kit is on the list for new product development, but there are several other products in line ahead of it. BTW, I'm a G-Body guy too, I looked at the link for your Cutlass, but only saw the one photo and the avatar. Is the avatar what your car looks like now or is that a photoshop of what you want it to look like? Man, it looks great, I'd like to see more. |
Those look nice and something I might want to upgrade on my car. I have a few questions though. You mention a 10" spring. I currently have Ridetech single adjustable coil overs (part#11243510) with a 8" 650# spring. It appears my shocks are 3.6" stroke. What is Speedtech suggesting for stroke? I am trying to determine if I would just need springs or if also need new shocks. I also assume I could buy the double shear shock mount with side adjustment since the current is top mount.

FWIW I run a 4.1" stroke shock with a 6" spring in the rear and a 7" stroke shock with a 8" spring in the front. |
The Ride tech shocks have lots of thread on them to allow for lots of adjustment

Trimming and welding fixtures?
Hey guys, glad you are making these for A-bodies! Just wondering what kind of trimming templates and placement fixtures (for welding) will you be providing with these brackets? Both make a big difference to ensure a quality install job.

Really it's not as complicated as you might imagine. We don't see the need to use a jig like other companies may do because you're not removing and replacing the upper control arm mount, therefore you're not modifying the location of the upper arms. I believe other vendors do it with a jig mostly for F and X body cars where they have you cut out the factory control arm mounts and install theirs. This changes the front geometry to match the Guldstrand mod and allows coilovers in one package. That's a lot of work we don't feel is necessary. Our bracket is designed to simply replace the factory shock mount, leaving the factory upper control arm mount in place. Our bracket is easily aligned and welded into the frame. On F & X body cars our Chicane kits allow you to still do the Guldstrand mod to your factory control arm mounts even with our coilover conversion kit installed. In a nutshell, we designed ours for the average car guy, so the install of the Speedtech Chicane coilover conversion kits are simple and easy for anyone that will take the time to follow our instructions. We also know most average car guys don't read the instructions anyway, so we included plenty of photos and captions that should get most anyone through the install just fine. :thumbsup: Hopes this answers your question.
