If a man wanted to build===========

a all wheel drive 65 mustang with a boosted v-6 or v-8 that can fabricate about anything what would you use?

65_LS1_T56 01-26-2014 03:22 PM

Subaru WRX STI chassis :D

Won't be able to run it in GoodGuys Autocross though.

raustinss 01-26-2014 03:23 PM

67-72 chevy blazer, all wheel drive, short wheel base, plenty of parts... But here's the kicker....duramax diesel

Now that would be freakin awesome!!!

INTMD8 01-26-2014 03:30 PM

What's the intended purpose of the vehicle? Auto or manual trans?

As for the engine I would do a twin turbo Coyote

Aaron how come? Because of the AWD or because it's part Subaru??

Vince@Meanstreets 01-26-2014 03:32 PM

Trailblazer SS since your gonna put an LS in it anyways.

If it's title as a '65 Mustang it would be allowed.

Rick, per the rules for 2014, no ABS, AWD or traction control unless in Late model class. Rule #13 on second page of rules (post#3) of Jody's post: https://lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=44759

Bob take a late model Porshe C4S AWD chassis and put either a twin turbo Porsche or LS engine in it. That platform has been called the 'ultimate sticky device.'

Do it. You know you want to.. :D

Yes.

Deeznuts 01-26-2014 05:22 PM

Now Bob, you know that aint gonna work! How is your son over there at Mo's gonna dyno an all wheel drive?

Shmoov69 01-26-2014 07:36 PM

Porsche drivetrain with an ecoboost cranked up, to keep it Ford-ish that is. :popcorn2:

craig510 01-26-2014 09:18 PM

Late model Taurus SHO or Cop car. Turbo V6 all wheel drive. Good parts availability. Ford in a Ford.

I was thinking this would be the drive train for my next project, but I am glad that GoodGuys pulled the plug on AWD. No way can a rear drive full bodied car keep up with a short wheelbase AWD T-bucket. Now I can focus on the car I have and my driving for next season.

No matter what, you've got a long road ahead of you, but if you're set awd, find an old Syclone or Typhoon and do what you gotta do to make it fit that '65 chassis.

Good luck. You are a braver man than I. :waveflag:

Memph 01-30-2014 08:20 AM

The drivetrain out of a Porsche Panamera Turbo would be pretty cool if you could get it to fit.

jimbo 01-30-2014 08:46 AM

This doesn't look very pro-touring.

No it doesn't but it fits in very well in Paulding county!

bret 01-30-2014 01:14 PM

Nissan GTR. Been beat by quite a few. That cars only sin is it is ugly...but you seem willing and able to fix that :)

BMR Sales 01-30-2014 02:19 PM

I would say the Running Gear out of a RS6 Audi Quartro, mate it to a Coyote Turbo

You could rock that in Dawsonville also! :gitrdun:

Porsche GT3 ,GTR,Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, TBSS, EVO. All well proven platforms,

Solid LT1 02-02-2014 08:30 AM

Someone suggested using GMC Typhoon/Syclone chassis. The same type of running gear can be found cheap at the wrecking yard under Astro and GMC AWD mini vans. Maybe a ford explorer or London navigator chassis parts running gear. The navigator has the 24V motor......

Someone Audi RS6? That is a POS under steering pig of a car worse than my B7 RS4 another highly overrated. Car. The motor on an Audi RS hangs 2/3rds past the front wheel centerline...how are you going to make something like that work?

You could have bought my Audi R8 Spyder for half the price of this build and been done.

LOL

I agree.

In OLOA circles there has been a rumour about a tube chassis '55 Chevy coming with an LS9 backed by the GTR running gear. Don't know if it's going to be a reality but if they can make it work it could be awesome. I would think your guys would be able to out come thing like that together for the mustang.
