Cars for the new improved Hometown Hotrodding.. and a note on lost images
First things first.. in a couple weeks the new and improved PHR will hit the streets.. Even better than the 140 pages is the fact that Hometown Hotrodding is now about 6 pages and is in the middle of the book instead of stuck at the end.
This is good for you and bad for me since I need to fill a lot more pages now.. lol. The first half of Hometown is the typical "done" cars in all their glory. The second half is new and features cars that are "under construction". This way you can get that never ending project into the book. For done cars the rule is "the better the pic(s).. the bigger they will run" Some members here that sent in great pics will get a full page. Lower resolution or poorer quality pics will still run but smaller. If you send me a great pic of the car and a great engine shot I will run both. You get the idea. Same with the "under construction" deal. The cooler the shot the bigger it's ran and if you have a rendering of the final deal I will run that too. Steevo took a cool shot of Jim Mulveys '69 being worked on, it ran a full page. A note on resolution.. this is a magazine and not the internet.. 72dpi is great on here but we can only print at 300dpi. Sometimes when I convert a sent in pic to 300dpi it ends up being 1x1 INCHES.. lol.. So when you take the pic do it in the highest setting of your camera and don't shrink it to email it. If the files are huge let me know and you can mail me a CD. You can also mail me photos if your digital skills are behind the times. Now for a note on lost images. I recently had a hard drive problem and lost a ton of data on cars and some images. The images I have left have zero info on who's cars they are. If you haven't seen your car in the mag and you have sent it in let me know and if lost I will have you resend the data. Remember that two months (12 pages) of cars are at the printer right now, so your car may already be "in the hopper". This is your chance to get in the book and how much space you get is up to you. The June issue even has a ton of tips on how to take a good car picture. There is also a story on this at our website (from June 2005). Ok, this is turning into WAR AND PEACE so I am done now.. Can't wait to see your pics! |
Sounds cool Steve. I'll be sending you a couple "progress" photos and a rendering of my BB Cad powered 70 Nova soon (similar to the one on the artwork page). Can't wait to see the new PHR!

Steve what is the email addy to send it to? I'll send you what I have.
|
im looking forward to seeing it .........Will this mean more features?

I have a couple of cool renderings and a few "in progress" shots. Do you have a shot preference for "in progress" i.e. Primer body or engine on dyno or engine/tranny in subframe. Just a few ideas. Are there shots that are more "saleable" for you? Naked women in the garage ? :D

Hey Steve
I sent you a CD with a bunch of images several months ago... hopefully you still have it. If not, let me know and I'll mail you another one. Ned Jackson Manteca, CA |
Steve...same here with the C.D. Was there anything of my 69 Camaro you could use on there?
I will email over the shots of my fisheye engine bay and my wife posing with the 69 Vette. Both of them are hometown...homebuilt specials (oh...and the wife too! ) I'll have my friend send the shots from his computer since he took them with his high quality camera and has them on his system. |
Steve
So what you are saying is my pictures suck and you lost them? That must be a blessing in disguise. LOL
Are we good or do I need to resend? |
rambler ?..

You deserve every drop of ink you got.. you are also hanging on the wall with the other cars to be featured someday.. good work Oh, and you REALLY need to submit a photo for the contest.. your shots were right in line with the assignment, but you will have to take new ones ... |
Hey Steve
Thanks for the compliments. I was really quite happy with the way they turned out and I owe it all to the PHR article last year. I was planning on submitting some for this years contest.... so I need to take some different pictures for this year ?? I was planning on sending in some of the same pix for the contest this year ( I didnt enter the contest last year, just read and used the article) but if I need to I can shoot all new ones. Just more work.... I assume if I need to shoot all new ones, its because you dont want the same pix showing up in different articles ?? I did send in quite a few pictures :) Just tell me what you guys need/want and I'll do it.... anything to get into PHR :) |
pictures
do you need Schwartz to send any more pictures of the wagon?
|
how about a 1/12th scale 69 Camaro for hometown hotrodding??? :D

Steve,
Long time no talk. Still have pics of mine? If not here is one for a reminder. |
Steve,
Did you ever receive the pics I sent you? |
Quote:
Nope.. that's the price you pay for being in Hometown.. lol.. can't use the same for both. Go take some new pics per this years contest rules and I would think you would have a good chance. Unless you have one's that we haven't seen.. then go for sending those in but the competion will be stiff this year and the swag box is nice and juicy.. Read the June issue and follow the photo contest guidelines.. it's a dusk or dawn shot :) |

The pics need to look like they are of a real car.. |
I've been going over the submissions and here are the two big problems I find...
1. the pics are tiny.. we run them at 300dpi (this isn't the 72dpi internet).. some pics end up being 1x2 inches at 300dpi and that's great for a postage stamp but not so much for a magazine.. lol Please send me the biggest possible file you have.. if you have a 1mp camera it might be time to go shopping :) (and set the camera on the highest setting) 2. No info.. I need to write up a short paragraph or two on your car, so I need some info. and not just a parts list.. how about a cool story about how you found the car or something. Required info includes your name, where you are, and the basics on the car. |
[QUOTE=Steve1968LS2]Your's were lost.. send me a high res of that first pic (and maybe a cool engine shot) along with details on the car.. do it now since I am just now writing Septembers Hometown
Steve I just sent the info and a couple of pics to your work e-mail. Let me know if you do not recevie. Thanks, Dennis |
Steve,
Did you need me to send another write up? I assume you got the CD and we had exchanged the prior emails. My buddy sent you some high resolution pics of the fisheye shot of my engine and my wife with the 69 Vette. Hope that works........ |
Quote:
And yes.. I need your writeup again.. I have the pics of your car though (since they were sent on CD).. that engine pic is just too cool not to use. With all the '69 LS1 cars I have to spread them over a few months.. lol |
pictures
did you lose the first set of pictures of my wagon? let me know if you did and i'll have jeff send some more

Any room for a car like mine anywhere?? :_paranoid It is a street car with over 900 hp on 93 octane. A 1" corner on the last page would do!
