Chaos - 1970 Chevelle at GAP Racing

Chaos is a 1970 Chevelle that was spread out between multiple shops before we got the call to get the project and take over. We had the original frame and started boxing it and modifying it for another shop that sent it to us. The motor was at another place and the body.......... well it was at a body shop that told the customer it was ready for paint. After picking the shell up, I decided to have it blasted because what we could see did not look very good. Now that we have the car, here is the run down :

1970 Chevelle :
Street Rod Garage Custom Chassis with Independent Rear Suspension and Air Ride
454 cubic inch LSX built by Late Model Engines
Nelson Mirror image 72mm turbos
4L80 built by Century Transmission
Forgeline VX3C Concave wheels. 19x8.5 20x15
Baer 14" Brakes
Custom Paint by Painthouse
Custom Interior by Recovery Room
Plus much, much more.....

Here is the shell we picked up from the so called "body shop"

This was a sure sign that the car had not been blasted like the previous shop told the customer

Looks like they just mudded over the old rocker holes instead of welding them up

The door gap as nice when we shipped it out. The blaster said he took out over an inch of filler used to make the gap so nice.

rags stuffed in the door and bondo over it. Nice touch

Some quality metal repair

Thank you sir. We are really excited about this car too

Cool car and a good yet different color choice. Very nice!

Che70velle 02-15-2014 09:46 PM

Oh yeah, here we go! I'll be following this one. This car should turn out very nice!

This is the project that probably excites me most at your shop. Even above mine! This car will be amazing.

At least that car is in good hands now. Keep us posted.

It happens. Just surprised by how much they charged. They even put the quarter panel on wrong and it will have to be cut off and fixed

Me too. This is going to be a cool one. Randy already has a name for the color. We have been playing with colors for a while on this one

windycitychev 02-18-2014 07:28 AM

sweet Chevelle keep the pics coming even though I follow you on FB

214Chevy 02-18-2014 09:34 PM

I've been waiting on y'all to start the build thread on this one. Another sweet chassis from Chris and the boys at SRG. I agree...that color is so sick.

GAP Industries 03-09-2014 02:15 PM

It is time to see how this body fits the chassis.

http://i1337.photobucket.com/albums/...pszn2i5nkt.jpg
Cut out a "little" section. It will be getting a new floor and trunk, but this will allow us to trim it outside the car to know exactly where the cuts need to be made.

It fits like a glove !!!

Borrowed some wheels from Meenaggie just to get it into place
http://i1337.photobucket.com/albums/...psjqk4nrdc.jpg
http://i1337.photobucket.com/albums/...pswxvhp6uk.jpg
Added the front sheetmetal so we could really see how low this thing is

Still waiting on Body bushings so we can bolt it down correctly. We also ordered two doors, a fender, a new trunk lid. All the pieces are going to be sent over to Painthouse along with the car. Randy is going to line everything up 100% and put it all in etching primer. Then it will come back to our shop so we can start all the custom stuff including body mods, new floor, and tubs. Also going to be mocking up the tires so we can get the wheels ordered.

meenaggie 03-09-2014 03:37 PM

That huge hole in the back is screaming for the 15 inch wide wheels you have planned . . . Actually making the 11 inch wide wheels look a bit narrow which is hard to believe. Looks like the rear suspension was set up for tons of wheel clearance.

When we started planning the build, our goal was a 20x15. The guys over at SRG did an amazing job on the chassis.

I agree.
Looking good Tim!

Ben@SpeedTech 05-08-2014 11:08 AM

Awesome project, more more!

Che70velle 11-22-2014 07:23 PM

How is this project coming along?

214Chevy 03-03-2016 06:26 PM

Any updates on this one?? I'm partial to this build not only because it's a Chevelle, but the color on the rendering was the original color of my car...brown. Almost makes me wanna go back to the original stock color.

HEEP 03-04-2016 11:24 AM

Hmmm, how did I miss this one? Yes, and update or five would be great.
