You provide the tires and "trackside insurance" and I've got something. :)

Mine don't have windshield wipers or headlights... But I will be there.

Come to think of it - that makes 'em sound like they were built by Steve Frisbee Auto Restorations... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

DBasher 02-24-2014 08:07 AM

I'm in, flying in Friday and driving home Sunday night. I'll be hanging out with a big blue Charger, going to be a hoot!

You can probably get Rich to set you up on that Bug he just finished! :lmao:

It should be a good event! See you guys there!
Given the up coming weather pattern, hopefully mother nature holds off a bit.

I can't think of anything I'd rather NOT drive there (or anywhere) than a Bug.

Optima at Laguna

We used to have a guy run a highly modified Bug
in Norcal Scca... it was mostly Porsche motor...
He drove the wheels off that thing and often would
set Top Time of the Day

Took the Firebird out for a run last weekend to see
if it may be ready for the event... motor seems to be
keeping all the pushrods where they are suppose to be
but the 12 bolt just ate the clutches after 26 years of
abuse

Not sure many would want to drive Bryan's
car because they could never drive it the way he does

Although Dad can run it pretty damn good:)

I timed Brian once at El Toro -- 3 runs -- within 1/10th of a second of each other.

He's okay I guess.

Not stupid...

There are no fees to get into or on to the grounds -- so you're $20 is all it's going to take.

Ahhh the entitlement species. Yes, the weather is good enough for you to live in a cardboard box!!! No rent, no lawn mowing, no work, ahhhh live is good, but a little hungary and a little cold....lol

Hey easy, one of those bushes might be mine someday! You are 1000 feet from my shop, you could have stopped by. I was there till 8:30 last night. I will swing by the farm in the morning to see if you are around.

That 69 is no joke, very unassuming without all the PT bling. Sure the mufflers look kinda goofy but the old man wheels the snot outta that thing!

The Fairmont is parked next to us and is also built well. Big stroker motor and some decent mustang suspension under it. I think Maier is quickest on the auto-x in the over 3k lbs class with a low 27.xxx run. That lil Fairmont is only two seconds off and the guys having a blast!

Danny Popp is fabbing up some exhaust for tomorrow. 2 strikes against him, 3rd strike puts him on the trailer. I would've thought he would be better prepared.

This is a great event that's being ran pretty well. We'll see what happens tomorrow when we get put on the big track.

Dan

GregWeld 03-08-2014 11:26 PM

Just left Danny's garage which is opposite my trailer -- and Larry Woo is there too --- they spent all manor of time fabing up exhaust mods. Very "creative" is an understatement...

Re the comment about DP being better prepared -- it's a Lingenfelter car - not Dannys... THEY do (or don't do) the prep. Give him credit for laying under the car until 10 O'clock making an attempt to save the weekend.

The GREEN '69 is WOT at 88 db.... stock suspension and is 28ish on the auto X.
That's called DRIVER SKILLS -- not lots of fancy parts... Stamped steel A arms - leaf springs. He's probably laughing his ass off at all your fancy pants cars running 30's. Nuff said.

Not sure what I personally expected out of the weekend -- but it's beating whatever those expectations where. Good group of folks here - having a great time - weather is dang near perfect... (could be a bit warmer)... Good vendor displays... Snap On - Baer - Willwood - Fox Shocks - Sampson Racing Communications (I bought a full driver to passenger intercom from him)... BF Goodrich etc.... with techs that actually are helpful. The school (conversation) I went to today on rebound settings and springs with the engineer from Fox was nothing short of amazing.

I get the sense that people are beginning to understand they have the potential to mess their cars up on the big track -- and are starting to take the attitude of -- "I think I'll just try to enjoy myself / there's nothing to win"... is spreading through the paddock. That's probably a good thing.

Dan,

The post was kind of an inside joke, but my picks were based on they had the potential to be quiet enough because.......to finish first you must first finish, and it appears the most feared competitor at the event may well be the db meter. :D

DBasher 03-08-2014 11:45 PM

Credit given to anyone that actually shows up and wheels these cars.

Greg we looked at the bridge on the way out...which Z? It says Mazda on it twice, we're screwed!

Dan

DBasher 03-08-2014 11:55 PM

Sieg I gotcha. Trust me, we've got plenty of inside jokes about all the Camaro snobs! :underchair:

I can't say anything about the pinto, guys having fun and getting a ton of attention. I saw Mary P riding with him in the auto-x, that's got to be pretty cool.

The one on the left is the pit lane :D

DBasher 03-09-2014 12:04 AM

Haha, well that makes sense! Quite a bit of "pointers" from guys that have ran the track, all good stuff.

Greg had said something about the Z and as we drove out we were all laughing about the two Mazda signs. It's gonna be a hoot tomorrow!

Damn True 03-09-2014 12:18 AM

Gorgeous day down there. Had a chance to touch base with some folks I'd "known" for years but never met.

Sieg 03-09-2014 12:21 AM

It's real easy to get to far left and catch the curbing of T1. Not too bad in a car, on a bike it's not much fun. :confused59: Find visual references on the bridge and one beyond the crest that works for you and you'll have the confidence to stay on the gas over the crest vs. lifting slightly.
