New Welding Table
I wanted a welding / fab table that was at a better working height (40 inches) and that I could easily wheel outside to the driveway area for projects, and I decided to build one that would integrate a copy of the Miller ArcStation concept and clamps.
I found a piece of 1/2" plate 45 x 62 inches locally on the cheap (380 pounds!) and had a local water jet guy fab the slots and the clamp bases for me, as per my .DXF drawings. I had a buddy at work do them for me, from my sketches. They also cut the outline on the water jet to 44x60 and I put a radius on the corners. I fabbed the frame from some some scrap 3x3 .120 wall and scored a set of Cornwell 500LB casters on ebay. Might add some shelving underneath, haven't decided yet. It will be disappointing to some folks that I didn't take the time to TIG the whole thing, no thanks...just the caster plates...Well, anyway here are some pics. http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...pshylyc4am.jpg http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9qr2wism.jpg http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psf535221f.jpg http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psmsvniede.jpg http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psxapqp74q.jpg http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psmqmsyvza.jpg http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psjixtr3mu.jpg http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psgzqba6fa.jpg http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psnkzg3cbt.jpg http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psk3ne2ceo.jpg http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psyjci2swp.jpg http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...pslgotafqz.jpg |
Great job that thing looks awesome! I love tables with the slots or even threaded holes as it makes it far more useable, you can actually clamp a part down in the middle of the table which is where you usually end up needing one.
Great idea to make your own I may have to look into doing something like this at work :thankyou: |
Sweet - Nice work.

Nicely done Rob.

Thanks folks for the kind words.
And thank you Ned for helping me remove the giant steel slab from my old table today. If anyone wants the DXF files for the table top or clamp bases, just ask. Rob |
Nicely done. Awesome job.

Great job

Awesome!!! Great idea with the slots!! I may take you up on that file when I get caught up on other projects... I've been thinking of building one myself.

I like it!
If I may...You may want to add more filler next time to your TIG welds, as they look a bit too concaved, probably from you beveling the edged prior to welding. When the bead shrinks back like that it is thinner than the base material and creates a weak spot. When welding a joint like that, the bead should be as thick as the base material. |
Thanks DTM, Those welds are in compression so didn't bother to put a big bead on them.
