Ultimate Track Car Challenge UTCC 2014
I just got the email that I'm on the short list of hopefuls for the entry into this years! I now have my TT and Instructors cert from NASA and VIR is my home track! I've been wanting to do this for years and finally I have a shot! Wish me luck! Shamless plug, sponsors welcome! I need tires!
|
Congrats Miles. Would like nothing more than to see one of the lower budget builds make that event.
|
Thanks G, I'm pretty sure I'm in, I just talked to the Director and he said I'm good to go. My car is very fast at VIR and I know the track pretty good. I'm taking the car to Summit Point in June, I hope it holds together till July. With good tires I think I can run a 2:02 or 2:03 lap around VIR, which won't win the Challange but would be right up there with the fast guys. I ran a 2:08 last time out on crappy tires.

Its Official! I'm in! Not only am I in, my car is feature on the ad page! Woot woot! http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/events/UTCC14/

Your the bomb bro and the only reason I might decide on going this year. Way to represent!!
|
Congrats, very cool!

got the car all back together, bigger better stronger. New Trans, made a new front splitter and fixed a bunch of gremlins in addition to adding a transponder. Loading up tonight for the trip to the track tomorrow. There are 5 vintage cars in this year's UTCC, I know I'm faster than at least one, the others I've never run against. I'll post pics from the track!
|
When are you running...this saturday or is it a friday/saturday event?
|
UTCC is Friday only, but I'm running HPDE4 and instructing all weekend, come on up! Bring a helment and I'll take you for a ride!
|
If I did not have a person out this week I would come up and watch Friday. Too much gonig on this weekend to get away. Good Luck and keep us posted.

I didn't get chance to take very many pictures. I'm not sure where I finished overall, I'm gonna guess top twenty. But the highlight was winning the fastest Vintage award! There were 5 cars running in the vintage group and I ended up the fastest! I only ran a 2.12 lap, about 4 seconds slower than my best. I'm guessing the areo I added slowed me down, and I didn't get enough runs to really learn how to drive it in the corners with it on the car. Transmission is still a problem, I'm pretty sure the brand new rebuild is trashed, I'll be pulling it out of the car this week. Anyway, here are a few pics.

Looks like a lot of fun! Nothing beats hanging with loved ones on the weekends.
  |

Congrats my man!

Very cool. Looks like a great weekend on multiple levels. :)
|
I just saw the final results, I finished 27th out of the field, Considering the hardware I was up against I'm very happy with that. If they gave a away an award for built out of nothing in a cave, I'd have two trouphies!
|
I know nothing about this event or your car but I love seeing threads like these! Congratz on the vintage win!
|
Congrats, looks like you had fun

Here's the Grassroots recap of the weekend, I got some more press!

Friggin awesome!!! :trophy-1302:
Fast, low budget cars give me wood |
Not sure how I missed this -- maybe with my move and a couple trips tossed in for good measure??
Congrats on the Vintage win ---- and as long as you had a great time -- then it was all good! Nice that you got together with Dad and Son! Any time to get that tranny out?? |
It was all good! my only regret was I was gonna let my Dad HyperDrive my car on Sat and that didn't happen. (I think he was scared anyway) I did get him several rides in the pace car and he took him up to 120 mph so he did get some track experience and understanding of what I do.
I already have a Rankin Dog Box sitting in my sons garage in Charlotte. It came from Andy Petree Racing out of a Craftsman Truck that Michael Waltrip Drove. I just need to figure out a way to get it to Virginia Beach. I'm gonna miss out on the Virginia AutoX Championships next weekend but I don't have any more room for State Champion trouphies anyway! The next stop for Beach Cruiser Racing is Daytona! I'm signed up for November to run the Rolex course with NASA! |
