Guys I wanna run gen 4 camaro brakes what am I missing
Guys look I know this has been beat to hell most likely, I know I have even talked about it but I am hoping to get the answer quickly instead of having this take a long time to get the answers I need. Here is what I have, generation 4 98-02 v8 brake calipers and rotors from and rear, a 98-02 rear end for backing plates ( still gotta take those off), russel brake lines from summit part number 692280, machined drum hubs for the front, front brackets and rear spacers ( I was told aia needed some spacers for my axle). I guess my question is what am I missing and what do I need for an e brake on these brakes? Thanks in advance guys for any and all help.

cables....are you running staggered shocks in the rear? The right side will have clearance issues.
|
If you have disc spindles, you will also need spacers to mount the brackets as well.

I have drum spindles that have been turned down. |
Anthony,I think what Tu was mentioning is the spacer between the spindle and the LS bracket since you have disc brake spindles. They are about a 1/4 nch round spacer, I will send you a picture.
For the ebrake cables, someone posted here before on how to modify or a few part numbers. I think Lokar may have some as well. Check this thread out: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=161383 Gui |

Anthony, this may help. Did you buy the brackets from Joe with the spacers?
The spacer will mount between the bracket top hole (see pic) and the spindle: http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...a/cc567c32.jpg If you do not have the spacers, give me a holler, I think I bought two sets from him. You may be able to get away with a thick washer. For the rear, you can run a spacer similar to this, to center the caliper: http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/h...FC2EA90BC2.jpg Give me a holler if you get stuck. |

Gui, I have these brackets and the spacer. I think I need the e brake cables and the hooks Al was speaking of. Where did you get urs? |
Anthony, hope this helps - good write-up.
http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215679 As far as cables I am surprised nobody seems to be catering this market yet. I believe Ford Explorer and Grand Cherokee cables can do the trick. I am trying to figure out a way to move from foot to hand e-brake that will work while keeping the stock console so may do a left hand e-brake like in the Ferrari Mondial etc, by the driver's door. You can also modify and utilize newer F-body cables or mix and match. I think you want to keep it in the stock foot brake position correct? Another option if the goal is parking brake only function (or drag racing - kidding) only is to go hydraulic and a line lock type of approach - non electric. push regular brake pedal. press valve, front or rear parking brake engaged (go front if burnout bent plans :)) Good luck! I have the stock F body cables and brackets and stuff if you need it, I didn't use it on my chevelle build.

I guess you never had a car with that left side parking brake lever....biggest pain in the ass if I ever new one. Literally. |

Honestly guys I am getting frustrated. It seems like not many people have successfully pulled off this brake conversion with an e brake. Not to mention I cant find anyone to install my brakes before summer is over. I am almost considering getting rid of my t56 and getting a 4l80 just because it wont be mandatory at that point. Even with the list Gui gave me there are still parts I cant just buy. What do I do guys? |
Anthony, contact Jim. I posted on norcal and he will do the full install for $400 labor including his trip what is not a bad deal and he does great installs. I will text you his phone.
I woudl say do not despair! Do you have the small e-brake metal brackets that hold the line on the axle? Again if the only need for the e-brake is for parking purposes the simplest approach is a hydro lock setup inline, plus great theft protection as well. Gui |
Vince lol, I hear ya, I had the Ferrari we were shipping to my buddy here for several months and could never get used to it or (nor the reverse in first gear pattern lol), but it was a fun little ride. I agree the left side hand e-brake brought the suck. I still think it is better than the foot e-brake though.
I am thinking for Anthony's ride, since he is planning to keep the foot brake, a hydro lock will be a good approach for parking purposes. Gui |

I dont have the small brackets that hold the lines, do you know where I can get that? Whats hydro lock and how do I do that? Quote:
I looked at them and they were kinda pricy, are there any other options? |
Vince I dig the electrics, but only issue with them is they draw power so if the bat disconnects or charge drops, they do not work too well.
I would go with a line lock hydro type than electrical for the reason above. I have run them on rock crawlers and they are fairly simple, and you can go as fancy as you like with cutting brakes, swage locks, etc. Anthony, from your text, basically they run about $30 bucks and up, to operate: 1- just push your regular foot brake pedal (to clarify not e-brake pedal), and hold. 2- press button on line lock (if electric) or turn handle 3- release foot brake. 4 - you are now locked :) pretty simple pic and link below goes into a lot more detail. this i what a manual type looks like: http://forum.ih8mud.com/attachments/109d_12-jpg.467967 electric type: http://www.jegs.com/images/photos/500/555/555-63003.jpg http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performan...63003/10002/-1 basic diagram: http://www.maliburacing.com/linelock/linelock_fig1.gif http://www.maliburacing.com/linelock/linelock.htm hurst setup is pretty cool: http://www.jegs.com/i/Hurst/530/174-5000/10002/-1 (check the instructions tab) Again this is a pretty simple approach, works pretty well to use as a e-brake and theft deterrent (plus front dig for burnouts ;)) Gui |
