Yesterday's recycling mission

A friend with a machine shop made me an offer I couldn't refuse. After a little last minute scrambling to secure a friends trailer I picked this up and brought it home and pressure washed the table and trailer. That trailer is for sale if by chance anyone's interested. 6K axles with brakes, Michelin tires.

What's that old saying.......one man's junk is another's treasure. At $250 I couldn't resist.

Surface is 34" x 114" x 3/8"

For some reason the wife isn't as excited as I am. :sieg:

Nice score!

My wife never gets very excited about the junk I drag home either. I picked up this old Trinco Blast cabinet a few weeks ago. She was less than pleased... ;)

I'm almost done with a quick refurb on it. I don't plan to open up the ClamShell so I mounted the dust collector to the top of it.

 Nice score!

Sweet bench!! I would have been all over that as well...

I was at a distributor's place a month or so ago and the lab manager grabbed me and asked me if I wanted this...

It took me about 5 seconds to say "hell yes"...

I still haven't decided what I'm going to do with it, worst case is I have one heckuva work table, best case is I can sell it and create some car parts funds...

I like that trailer! Wish I was local. Whats the Price?

Can't confirm a price at this time. He had it custom built locally about 12 years ago. It's been stress tested with some heavy loads so the welds must be ok. :D

IMPALA MAN 06-14-2014 08:41 PM

Trailer.

Wow, that's pretty well how I got my trailer. An older lady that moved next door about 4 years ago from a farm her and her husband had, had a 16 foot trailer. You could tell it was rough and it sat in her back yard since the day she moved in. I watched her mow around it every week. Finally I asked her if she wanted to sell it. We settled on $325. New lights, a $70 sandblast job, a paint job and two discounted fenders from a farm supply store and for a total investment of $625. I'm good to go. Her husband used to hall 8N Ford tractors on it, so no problem on the weights. Good catch!!!

Sieg 06-14-2014 11:13 PM

Well the deal on the table was sweetened yesterday, my buddy asked if I'd be willing to do some family photography work as a straight trade.........why certainly! Win-Win!

Spent most of the day working on the old slab cutting the legs down and installing the casters. Best part.......it's level! Finished height ended up at 24-7/8". Glad I used those oversized casters as I love the retro look and it rolls very easy easy considering the weight and dirty bearings and bushings in the casters.

When I have more time I'll tear them apart and clean and paint them International Tractor red.

Started back on it at 6 a.m. sanding the deck with a 5" DA and 60 grit paper to knock down the surface rust and paint build up, paint was thick in spots so sprayed it with Talstrip paint remover which didn't get it all but improved the patina IMO.

One more light sanding and rinse then run a thread chaser through all the fixturing mount holes and I'm good to go!

Those casters made the table and they appear to be very tight, once thoroughly cleaned and greased it'll need a leash. :D I'm going to design some sort of stabilising feet for the swivel end to secure and level it. Visualizing a bar with adjustable feet, guide tracks at both ends and a screw jack in the center......open to ideas!

SSLance 06-15-2014 12:43 PM

I don't imagine that table flexes much, do all four wheels stay on the floor pretty well? Anyway to put locks on the wheels to keep the table from rolling once in place? And what all are you going to mount on the table permanently, like vises, drill presses, grinders and such?

I dig it, I'd jump on a deal like that in a heartbeat. Great work table.

Shmoov69 06-15-2014 10:33 PM

That is a killer table!! I got one for work from a Sheetmetal shop, just had to haul it off. It's 5'x12' with tongue and groove 2x top with steel corners all around and racks below for flat sheet stock. Just had to cut it down and put casters on it.
For my house I picked up a Wilton vice that the guy was going to scrap because it was seized up. After heating and pulling and such, finally got the rust to break free. A little cleaning and some new jaws, I have an $800 vice for under $100!!

I love other people's junk!! LoL!:gitrdun:

I'll most likely leave it clear. I have a vice mounted on another worktop, same goes for sanders and grinder. Not sure on wheel stops yet.

Sweet table Sieg!!! Can't beat that price, as for space just get ride of the camaro and you will have more room?? 😃

ccracin 06-16-2014 06:04 AM

Nice Sieg! You're starting to have the same problem we are. You need a bigger garage! The more tools and equipment the easier the job but less space to work! LOL. Great find!

Double edged sword isn't it.......

Time to prioritize and eliminate unnecessary objects, inches add up to feet.
Wonder what the wife and kids wouldn't notice? :secret:

Well, when you get ready for a garage sale you've got a nice table to roll out on the driveway. Lol

96z28ss 06-16-2014 12:28 PM

Time to down size the home and up size the shop space.

I want to sell my current home and down size and look for a home with a simple 2 car garage and a nice 4 car shop out in the back. hard part is convincing the "boss" its the right move.

 Just mentioned that to the wife yesterday.

I'm certain some garage saler would 'step up' and offer me $35 for the table.

I love our home and more importantly the lot and location...........I'm screwed.

Put the table to work today......our 'first date' lasted about 10 hours. :D

The dude has become such a famous welder -- they've named a table after him!

I saw one of these in Jesse James shop on one of his episodes one time. He used it for a fixture table to build a bike frame off of. I've wanted one ever since...til I just saw the price. Thanks Greg.

I can't even find any merchandise to capitalize on :(

That's the only thing I have a chance of affording! I haven't seen any of their tables and fixturing in person but they appear to be top-notch in the catalog I have on my workbench.

Revved 08-04-2014 03:03 PM

Great score Sieg!! That table looks stout!
