I don't think I'm going to do a build thread on the '40... this forum just isn't really into hot rods like I am. And frankly - there's not much to be learned by the community with these old hot rods. I'm not forging any new ground with this newest project. |
One thing I know about Pinkee's, like Ironworks they nail the stance of what ever they build.
The RS chassis, well that's cool if your into that kinda thing. Good to hear Gwen likes the car, is she doing the GG deal with you? I know you said "we're", just wasn't clear if your other "handler" Sieg was going for a ride.:walkingdog: :action-smiley-027: Dan |
ART OF ART.........
Outstanding, both of them! |
I spent a weekend parked next to the Pinkees crew at a Russo and Steele auction a few years back, they are good peeps. Art looks great Greg. Now...if you only had a new house to hang it in. :poke:

The trip will be GWEN and I ---- with her doing all the driving and me doing all the sight seeing. |

Agree 100% Eric Peratt (Pinkee's) is a hot rod guy. He also happens to own and drive a '40 Ford Pickup of his own. I tried to buy his - but he ended up finding me a donor and running numbers on the project - and convinced me the donor was smarter. DONE. Quote:
They are Lance! I'm glad you feel the same way. The "art" was an accident because Kenny was in Brizio's space during the Grand Nationals... next thing you know - he's doing a painting for us. I've never done that kind of thing before and it's pretty darn kool! |
Greg, did you see this beast yet? it drove with us on the GG's "HAUL" of fame road tour (yes, Ed needs to change the title of the trip/tour)....LS powered and RS chassis....

I used to have that model of pickup.... had a cute tricked out 6 cylinder.
I'm arguing right now with myself -- an LS in a Ford or a Ford in a Ford... I think LS is winning. Besides -- I like pissing people off. |
You crack me up....This truck was a tribute to his wife who lost her battle with the ugly C...But man that thing MOVED, cruised at 90+ no problem....

You know what they say Greg, stick with what your good at ! Love both the car and the painting. Glad the wife is enjoying the car. Oh if you post pictures of the pickup anywhere let me know I'd like to check it out as you get it done. |

Do a build thread. We don't need another lat-g guy who buys a RS chassis... and then stops posting about it. |
I'm signing the petition for a build thread.

Weld's 40 Ford pickup
I wasn't going to do a build thread on this project... but WTF.
I wanted to build this myself at my new shop - but realized that with building a new house over there - and the lack of "hot rod friends" that might be a real struggle. I don't have the resources over there -- buddies to just call and say "come help me with...." etc. And I want this done within the next 18 months or so. I'm having Pinkee's Rod Shop build this project because he has the talent and taste that is what I'm after for this particular build. I'm building this as a daily driver for Sun Valley where the average speed is about 20 MPH. But I want to be able to drive it to Costco in Twin Falls or to Boise or wherever... so that's the way it's going to be planned. No bling - nothing fancy - just drive it rain or shine. The goal is to have perfectly straight body - perfect gaps - flush windows - air tight - rattle free... easy to drive... great A/C and heat including heated seats. The Roadster Shop chassis. Ford 9" on triangulated 4 link - coil overs front and back. 9" or 10" rear wheel... Wilwood simple brakes two piston front single rear... auto overdrive tranny... crate LS3 or SBF (maybe a Roush motor). EFI. Patina paint - but Gwen likes paint - so maybe a pale green (old skool color) or tan... I'm talking to Eric (owner of Pinkee's) about bead rolling details into an all metal "trunk" and painting it like it's old tattered canvas covered and leather... and mounting this in the bed so I can have dry secure storage for groceries or luggage etc for road trips. Right now this is just an "idea". I've asked Tracy of The Recovery Room - to come up with a "quality" version of "early horse blanket" for the interior. Not sure what that means but we'll figure out something. I think Gwen is going to have her hand in the details now that she's become an official hot rodder. For the first time EVER she was walking around the Pomona FairPlex looking at cars and telling me what colors she likes and which cars she liked and didn't.... and her tastes are an exact match to mine. Where we differed was on the paint scheme -- she wants old skool real paint - and I was thinking pure patina... Here is what we're starting with - a body found in Wyoming by Pinkee's. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...630_150113.jpg |
That will be one very cool daily driver! Glad you decided to make a build thread after all. This is going to be fun.
|
Excellent project, I look forward to watching it come together just like the last one...
|
That-a-boy!
Thank you, this will be fun, as always. |

Jeff, I believe it's now state law in Colordo that if you contract with Pinkees, you must post the build web on algores worldwide internet system...no matter what state you reside in. I'll look into that. :bump: |
Whatever you do , dont paint that truck !! Way cooler in patina. Need a "welds shed " logo on door.
|
BTW, I'm down for patina.
|
That's a great project to post here.
|
Another cool one Greg. I know it will just be a driver but I think you should put 14" Wilwoods on it instead just in case you want to take it to a few Goodguys shows, then you can run the autocross in the hotrod category. This thing would be one hell of a sleeper with an LS3 and everything else you have planned.
Or are you planning 15" Wheels... |

We haven't gotten there yet --- and you won't find me running any Auto X events... in anything. Just not my cup of tea. |

Intros FTW!
And it's time to update your signature again Greg... |

Just add a removable splitter and wing and give em something to talk about. |
I say paint it...just don't go all 1,000s of hours of block sanding, panel gapping, clear coating, more sanding etc etc on it. Get it straight, get it all one color and get on with it.
Cool Project. |
Finally..........
Greg,
It's about time you posted this! --Eric |

What's wrong with a 40K paint job on a 50K truck? |

nice pick up....I know someones gonna say it....don't just clear it. That thing deserves paint.

a faux patina paint job would be ok.....and a faded A**holes garage door sign.

I think I'll let Gwen call the paint on this one.... that will give her some ownership in the project. So will wait until she sees it @ Pinkee's in September on our trip... and let Eric toss out some ideas etc. She saw a couple '40's at LA Roadster show she really liked and that worked for me too... so we'll see. I'm trying not to turn this into another hot rod --- I want to toss steel in the back - dogs - Costco runs... ski's.... and that would allow me to ditch the super boring F-150. I envision this as a real life every day work truck that gets used. Thus nothing fancy and hard to clean. Wash it with a hose. Done. Steelies and dog dish... bigs and littles... work truck with an attitude... and something more fun than a new car. |

Oh hell yeah!! Stay at the Weld compound too! Or in other words, a cot in the shed. They told me this year Bugatti will have 16 Veyron's there. The event itself - is sold out. |

I can't think fast enough - or react fast enough - or drive good enough for Auto X.... and I'm not interested at all in driving for 60 seconds. On a road course - I get to warm up - run the same turns multiple times - mess around with entry turn in - braking zones - gears - and spend 20 minutes on track - at which time I'm worn out and need 40 minutes of rest. :>) |
A Roush motor'd, RS chassis'd grocery getter. Nuttin' fancy.
I freakin' LOVE it! Just don't take forever to build it, lol. Greg! |
