Tony Stewart retirement???
There is an article on Empire news.net that Tony is seriously thinking about selling his motorsports teams and not driving anymore. I hope that isn't the case. The media hype is really BS.

FWIW - It was actually on a major cable networks news broadcast this morning with a reference to Waltrip and one other driver, maybe Kyle petty, being a source.

As for having a head in the sand....that's me! The news just makes me angry so if I want to sleep well I just skip it. I figure that if something really important happens, I'll hear of it elsewhere. Usually the strategy works. :-) |
No official statement yet from SHR, but he's been spending a lot of time with other drivers, who apparently are attempting to talk him into remaining in the sport.
Honestly, it would not surprise me AT ALL if he sells out, and walks away. |
Here's my view --- and only he will know for sure which road he goes...
If he's somewhat "guilty" of trying to buzz the guy -- and he knows whether he did or not - he'll retire... because you wouldn't be able to move past that knowing you were reckless and a guy got killed... whether it was in the heat of battle or not. Let your conscious be your guide. If it was a pure accident - then mentally he'll be able to move past it and stay with what he loves. Pure conjecture on my part... and we might never know how it really all went down. |
My comments were really directed at the original Tony Stewart thread. I just want Lateral G to remain a positive place. I think we all do...
Greg, I was thinking the same thing. |
^^^^^^^ Good man!! And not because you agreed with me LOL

I knew it was fake when i read this ...
"He can barely bring himself to drive his Ford Taurus to the supermarket and back without cringing". |
So has the gopro in car video came out yet? Surely he had one.

His only move is to leave racing period. He will never feel 100% behind the wheel if he doesn't and that alone makes it unsafe for everybody that races around him. The only way to redeem himself and remain a part of this sport will be to get involved in the safety aspect of the sport. |

If this incident happened to a normal dude on a Saturday night racing sprint cars we would have never heard this story. I witnessed a track official die at my local dirt track last year, he got hit by a guy who lost control of his car coming out of turn 2. And that driver still races. I saw the entire accident. In reality mistakes happen and life goes on whether we like it or not. |

I would bet for one, Stewart at least skips the rest of this season, and two, his return(if he does return) will be after a long cool down session. |

Also, I don't know him personally so this is just a useless comment.... But Tonys "image" is one that really doesn't give a crap. I'm sure alot if that is just image, but most die hard racers have an ego that you couldn't contain in a warehouse. IMO That alone will keep him behind the wheel and racing. |

I don't presume to know what Tony should or should not do, only he can answer that. But I do hope we see him get back behind the wheel of a race car. I have no doubt that the accident was just that an accident. I also agree that he will likely carry this with him for the rest of his life. I will wait for Tony to officially announce his decision and ignore all the speculation.

But if public perception ruled Nascar all the drivers would act like Jimmy Johnson, but it doesn't. Right now Tony Stewart made the headlines and every soccer mom in America think cuz they wheel their suburban down the high way they are a dirt track racer and Tony must have meant to hit and kill that kid so he is a super villain. Well as soon as something big happens in the real world with the Karrdashians or Justin Bieber, Tony can go back to racing, I would bet Tony was told by NASCAR not to race because Nascar has sold out is fan base to make auto racing appeal to everyone. Just like everything else has gone soft. No one can speak their mind or no one is ever to blame for their actions, there always has to be a way to prevent every accident. The guy who owns Bass Pro shops is a fishing buddy of Tonys and I'm sure he will have no issue with a racing incident as he is a racer and knows these things happen every Saturday night. Nobody missed a single race when Dale sr died. |

Also have you noticed how little the Nascar reporters have covered the story? But when Denny Hamlin and Joey Lagono tagged last year that was all we heard about. NASCAR is waiting for the soccer mom storm to go back to racing.

I'd love to hear your prediction on when you think he will return........ |
NASCAR has nothing to do with this accident beyond the fact Tony is a driver/team owner in one of their series. It would be inappropriate for NASCAR or the race reporters to comment on the event other than issuing condolences to the family which they have done.
