Eric's Project "Grifter"
I got myself an RCR SLC.
I decided I wasn't going to dink around any more. I talked with Jeff Schwartz about his ULTIMA and he leaned much more towards the SLC and boy he wasn't kidding, this thing is dang awesome! I'm super pumped to have the car here. It certainly brought a lot of people out of the neighborhood asking all sorts of questions and taking pics. It does draw a crowd! http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...830_161737.jpg http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...830_164144.jpg I decided I ain't wasting no time. I need to get my car back in the garage before winter, so the goal is the be at the point of having the body back on the car by then... that's a lofty goal, but what the hell. I have done some insulation but have some left over. Any thoughts on where to put some next? Body off: http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...831_153359.jpg Starting insulation: http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...831_165652.jpg http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...831_173348.jpg Back side: http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...831_175021.jpg Fuel Pumps are in and time to start making hoses! http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...40467321_n.jpg Dani helped me scrape glue off.. it's a slow process. http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...27623526_n.jpg |
Wow not messing around for sure!! More details please???

It's as close as you can get to a Daytona Prototype you're going to get. It may not truly be as fast as one (suspension and motor and what not), but they are DAMN fast and at around 2,100lbs soaking wet... it will scoot. Motor will be a LSX I'm still working out the details, the trans is a G50/01 porsche transmission. Mid engine, RWD, Forgestar wheels. Car will be white for now and maybe wrap it in a year or two. |
So is the Camaro sold?
Similar to the Factory Five GTM? |
Awesome Eric! I think you and I have really similar taste.
I really want to build one of these after my Camaro is done. I've been looking at SLC's and Factory Five GTM's for years. I think you definitely made the right choice. Did you sell your Camaro? I can't wait to see it come together man, good luck! |
About time E! I was gonna give you about one more day :D
Congrats  |
wow I've never seen one, it sure is a slick looking ride.

There's a handful of people with these things and even less responding on the forums. This is just a different sector of hot-rodding and certainly going to be pushing some major lateral-g's in the skid pad :) |
What's crazy is a couple weeks ago I was watching YouTube videos of SLC's and I saw you commented on one of the videos trying to get in contact with a dude. I figured there was a chance you would have one eventually. I'm really glad you're doing a build thread.
I'd really like to check it out in person in a few months. |

I love these as well...I definitely want one too some day. They are crown pleasers for damn sure. Not being funny, but I can't believe some of you guys have never heard of these. They are awesome. Way better than a Factory Five if you ask me. Guys, and considering what some of have put into our classic muscle cars, trust me...you could have built one of these too. It's not as pricey as you would think.

I'm guessing you looked at his new GT-R and liked the styling of the SLC body better? Jeff- |

Added some minor things, all stuff that has to get done. Still have yet to find a good way to get the tape residue off without some hassle. Oh well... Maybe it just takes more elbow grease. Finished brake lines to the calipers. Had to remove the caliper on the rears to get the banjo bolts in, not a big deal. http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...96706382_n.jpg FInally got her up on jackstands to do some of the more important work: http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...46103163_n.jpg Master cylinder reservoirs. I was pleasantly surprised at finding pre-drilled holes for these on the drivers side. Made this so dang easy. http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...00991261_n.jpg Buttoned up for the night http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...65630497_n.jpg |
GM Adhesive Remover
Grab some from your local dealer for that tape residue! Love the build!!

Wow, really cool project. I have watched many YouTube videos on them and seen a few on TV but this will be the first one where we will here the whole process. They are very slick fast cars. I think yours will be done before the one on Gearz.
I agree that it is a more sorted out car than the others you mentioned. Got to watch the racing videos and it's certainly fast enough. Best wishes on hitting your time line. Rod |
How the heck did I miss this thread!!! That thing is holy crap kool!

More updates:
Got all the brake lines fitted and attached firmly to the frame. Coolant lines are in place and most of the frame stuff is done, including the fuel system, just a few little things here and there until I can get an engine. W I will be moving on to the AC unit and install next. Today just seemed like a good day to work on the body. http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...21401946_n.jpg The first cut is always the deepest! http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...23020962_n.jpg Place ENGINE HERE: http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...56937046_n.jpg Paint color test: http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...04205539_n.jpg My son is finally old enough to really help daddy in the garage, here he is drilling and tapping his very first hole! :) http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...70826243_n.jpg |
Best picture ever! Kids are such a treat!
|
That smile says it all!!!
|
Cool project. That pic of your boy is great. How old is he? Can't wait until my son is old enough to help dad out too..maybe next year...lol
Good luck with your project, can't wait to see more. |
Cool project.
Having your kid helping out, and enjoying the process is priceless. |

Funny thing, is when I shot this photo for my book... he's in a crib next to the car slightly off camera watching everything. He loved it. http://www.cartechbooks.com/media/ca...age_3595_1.jpg |

Sub'd for the finish product.
|
Took the better part of a day to get this right and cut out plates for the door, but it works!!
It thinks it's people!! http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...47987666_n.jpg http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...90859803_n.jpg http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...92319364_n.jpg |
This is my new favorite thread. Can't wait to see this one done.

What a difference a little bed liner can do! Took me the better part of a day, but it looks a hell of a lot better than bare fiberglass. Plus, it will be able to handle rock chips pretty smoothly.
I also painted the inside of the middle section with this stuff as well. The car got a new nickname, the "Stormtrooper" from some of my friends, hell could be worse... but my god, those guys suck at aiming! http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...05926768_n.jpg http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...95993489_n.jpg |
I posted a video of the fuel system for reference if anyone wants/needs it.

Bed Liner?
What product did you use?

I've given the head lights a rest for a bit as I was getting frustrated with them. I'll attack them another night.
Since then, I've managed to install the E-brake units http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...26858957_n.jpg Install the AC unit. http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...34177754_n.jpg Drill and weld up the steering wheel adapter, mock up the seats for placement and get the e-brake handle situated for final placement when the shifter gets mounted. http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...05419172_n.jpg I've managed to get one side of lights to fight right with a lot of fiddling with a drill nibbler/grinder attachment. Now, getting those plastic nubs to fit properly... that's another story. http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...19987106_n.jpg I also figured out the right combination to get rid of the packing tape residue. Liberal amounts of goof-off, let sit for an hour or more, scrape off with plastic razor repeat if necessary. http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...15231326_n.jpg Finally, while it looks like i'm just playing making race car noises, i'm actually fitting myself for seat angle, height and distance from roll bar to my head with my helmet.... But mostly race car noises. http://www.impermanence.kungphu.com/...39241746_n.jpg |
