72 Nova Autocross update

After doing some Goodguys and SCCA autocrossing this past year (I got hooked) I've decided it was time to make some upgrades to the Nova so I could be a little more competitive.
Upgrades planned so far are...
-new tires; Falken Azenis 245/45 R17 and 255/40 R17
-upgrade factory 10-bolt differential; 3.73 gears, Moser 30 spline axles and Detroit Trutrac
-CPP "totally tubular" upper and lower control arms
-Viking double adjustable coil overs and rear shocks
-CPP AFX C5 spindles and hubs
-13"rotor upgrade to my existing 4th gen Camaro front disc brakes
-FAST EZ EFI 2.0 fuel injection

Here's some pics f what's done so far, let me know what you think....

What SCCA Class were you running in?

70TWO NOVA 09-21-2014 09:05 PM

I finally got the rear end back under the car. I have yet to get it out and drive it, but I'm hoping its a decent difference considering I'm going from an open diff 3.08 gear to a trutrac with 3.73s. Also, I just picked up a set of front 13" C4 Grand Sport brakes. I have been told the calipers/pad size is not as good as the current 4th gen Camaro stuff I have on the car, but I'm hoping the 1" larger diameter rotors will still give me some increase in braking ability (not to mention they are thicker and cross drilled)

70TWO NOVA 09-22-2014 10:01 PM

That's my next project. 1968 Camaro I plan a BBC 427 for it, PT suspension with a dark green metallic paint and hockey stick stripes.

Did you have to install spacers? What size?

70TWO NOVA 12-12-2014 09:23 PM

Still need a 4150 style throttle body and sbc fuel rails if anyone has anything let me know.

waynieZ 12-12-2014 10:23 PM

Sweet!

Rick D 12-13-2014 04:29 AM

Progress progress!! Should run better with the EFI for sure!

Sandbagger 12-13-2014 06:27 AM

would a fuel rail from a TPI corvette motor work 85-96 L98 ?

70TWO NOVA 12-13-2014 07:31 AM

I think it might

Sandbagger 12-13-2014 07:44 AM

Ill dig a set up . there buried in the crawl space

jdeliveryguy 12-13-2014 10:19 AM

Love that nova. Quick question, what size wheel spacers are you using?
Also what subframe connector do you have on car. Thanks

70TWO NOVA 12-16-2014 08:13 AM

Thank you. I'll have to measure but I think they are 2" in the front and 3/4" in the rear. I have the Competition Enginerring bolt in subframe connectors.

70TWO NOVA 12-16-2014 04:06 PM

Got the old carb Edelbrock Performer rpm off, here is a side by side with the new MPFI intake

SSLance 12-16-2014 08:29 PM

Looks like the new intake is for Vortec heads, and the old one wasn't. Are you going to adapt the Vortec manifold to the heads?

Can't wait to see how this works out for you. Which ECM and software are you going to run?

My heads actually have holes for both standard and vortec intakes. I will be running a micro squirt controller on it.

Still need a 4150 throttle body? I have one I never ran, somewhere. See attached... sat on my motor before I added the blower. Then of course, it didn't flow enough for the blower, so I had to go Dominator.

Uses all GM style IAC and TPS.

Heck, I hava RamJet 350 intake, throttle body and rails kicking around somewhere, too.

Nice build, I am contemplating a 69 with some cast off parts.

70TWO NOVA 01-02-2015 09:47 PM

Pm sent

70TWO NOVA 05-12-2015 09:23 PM

Got some parts, more on order. I should have everything sans the microsquirt controller soon. This weekend I'll have the fuel system done then on to some wiring.

WSSix 05-13-2015 07:04 AM

Good luck with it. Wiring to me is one of those things you just go into knowing it's going to take a long time to do correctly. I just sit down and just start working slow and steady.

DavidBoren 05-13-2015 07:19 AM

Sweet nova. I think you are heading in the right direction with your upgrades.

Wiring always intimidates people, but they teach you how to connect the dots and trace lines in preschool. One wire at a time. Label everything. Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.

Good luck with your build. The fuel injection should treat you right.

Justin@EntropyRad 05-13-2015 09:24 AM

Tough lookin' ride

Dig the car and color scheme!

70TWO NOVA 05-13-2015 09:42 AM

thanks guys, the wiring doesnt really bother me. I have wired quite a few cars so that part although time consuming isnt something I dread. I take pride in making it right while hiding as much of the wiring as possible for the most sanitary look.

70TWO NOVA 05-17-2015 03:59 PM

I was able to complete the fuel system upgrade this weekend. I used -6an braided ptfe line with a walbro inline pump and corvette style regulator/filter.

Finally scrounged up enough money and bought the Microsquirt ECU and Ford Taurus radiator fan. All I need now is a new radiator to replace my leaking old one and to install everything and she will be ready to run again!

I'm hoping sometime next month. Got a TDY to get through before I can work on it again. :(

WSSix 07-16-2015 07:27 PM

Glad to see you making progress on the car, Brian. Good luck getting it on the road soon.
