Amazing. imagine the possibilities.

too bad its just being used for target training. Imagine being in a dog fight with a guy sitting on his couch 200 miles away.

Skynet is taking over!!

They have been doing this for years there with F-4s at Tyndall/Holloman, guess they are running out of them. A lot of times these drones are used in test missions for as targets for tests.

At the rate things are going these days, that's not far from the trooth. From what I've heard the software in the F/A-18E/F is insane. It won't accept any inputs from the pilot that will exceed the limitations of the aircraft or that would cause it to do something weird like tumble. I even read an article where a pilot lost control of one and "let go" of the controls... the airplane righted it self and then the pilot took over again. Imagine all that combined with a remote pilot using nothing more than an XBOX or PlayStation controller!

Hmmm..... how do I get that job? Pretty sure I could work from home.

Uh huh!

I was just talking with a friend who's a flight instructor for Insitu and it sounds like it would be slightly entertaining.

I hope the technology stays in the US and isn't sold to other countries.

Vince@Meanstreets 10-08-2014 02:36 PM

Well they always said that the limitations of the F-22 was the pilots body.

I know a few guys at Insitu. This kind of tech is a long ways from a ScanEagle. I get a laugh out of how many of their operators think they are pilots. Similarities, but still different worlds.
