What would your next project be?
For the sake of a cool Friday discussion, what would your next project be? for me, I really like what Race-Rodz is building. That thing is awesome. Maybe Chris could post up a new pic. :D
How about the rest of you? |
67 Mustang Fastback. :D
|
The wife has been bugging me to build her a tri-five touring car. :_paranoid If that is ever in the budget it will surely have a very large cubic inch big block with a couple of very large turbos.
She is also wanting to build another VW notchback. I think this would be a little more in her/our budget. I think I would use a WRX engine this time around and set it up full pro-touring style. |
I'm leaning towards a kit roadster of some sort - good power:weight, rustfree (!), all new. My short list has a 58 vette, austin healy or scarab type body.
My second choice is a 90ish miata for a Monster Miata. The Hot Rod Solstice project has me fired up. |
My next project after I complete the one I have will be a 49 chevy 1/2 ton 5 window pickup. I building the truck for my father after I get my camaro done.
|
Next project assumes we have a current project right? lol. I think I'd like to do a 65 Malibu
|
I realy whant to build a big cruiser, 1962 to 1967 Impala, this would have all the protouring performance and function but the added room to carry the whole family.
|
I want to do a 66 or 67 Fairlane...but keep it a nice driver. I tend to take a project and let it snowball into something I either can't drive comfortably or have so much time/money into it I'm scared to drive it. I'm planning to fight all these urges with the Fairlane :)
|
I think I want to do a 70-73 Firebird/TA.
|
|
A 4.3 V6 twin turbo Corvair for a fun car or a 60's lincon Continental vert for a cruzer. YOu know the ones with suiside rear doors.
|
If my bird gets done(never). I was thinking of a 75 chevy step side pick up. My grandfather had one and I remember riding in it with him.
|
1973 Datsun 240z, kinda like what Boodlefoof is building, but a little more subtle. Ideally (if I had enough money to pull out of my a**) I would drop the body on a C6 frame, have Tom Nelson build me up a nice TT engine, throw in a T56 or shrifter kit, and make it the ultimate street fighter. Barely any interior except for guages and a radio. Those little cars are awesome.
|
A Model A Ford 2-door sedan- a true hot rod. Chopped & channeled, with some ancient V-8 with too many carbs...wide whitewall slicks, no fenders, and tons of attitude. I've never built anything older than 1950, and I need to.
I can't be the hot rodder I want to be until I build a genuine hot rod. ~SP~ |
After the camaro, I would like to build a 1967-1972 c10 reg. cab with a duramax diesel
|
I try to dream up cool none Camaro Pro Touring projects everyday so I will be watching this thread. Being in the muscle car business for 25 years now, and having been in the business when these cars were cheap, when i did all stock restorations. In 1988 / 89 I had the most popular car I ever had bar none, a 68 Shelby GT500KR convertible, Red / Black guts. I lived in Daytona Beach at the time and was in my mid 20s. Spring Break, we would cruise the strip and girls would come up to the car and tell Lisa it was their turn, LOL! And it wasn't because I was mister handsome! needless to say, things were better around the house if i left the car at home during these events, unless Lisa was riding shotgun!
So, I really want to do a Pro Touring GT500PT. I'll keep the details to my self. but as much as I do not particularly love red, this one may be red. And yes, I kick myself in the ass everyday for taking a nice profit, selling that car for $28k since I had only paid $14K 2 years before. It sucks to know that car may approach the half million dollar mark today! |

itll be years before my darts done, but a 76 plymouth Arrow with a new hemi (5.7 or 6.1) would be awsome. i never really looked at any late 70s cars as cool, but as of late they become more interesting. the Arrow like other compacts of the 70s are rearwheel drive 4 bangers not frontwheel drive like i thought. V8s have been swapped into these little things for years. theres actually more room in the enginebay then in my dart. itd be cool to see one updated to handle better. a year ago i wouldnt have look at one of these cars, but now i think the vegas, pintos, colts and arrows would be fun to do.
ok, you can start laughing now. |
1st gen Camaro. Maybe Nova/Chevelle.
|
I would do a '69 Chevelle, PT-treatment with LS1/T56, painted Cortez Silver and black stripes.
Like the guy who married his exwifes sister said: If you have got used to one mother-in-law it's better stay with the same. :D Jan |
My next build will probably either be my 55' 150 sedan or my 55' handyman wagon. Just have to decide which will start after the 63' Impala Wagon were doing, the 37' Sedan were doing....and customer work.

I have a 95 S10 That I am just starting to play with. Going to make a cheap streetfighter out of it. But after that I really want to build a replica trans am race car. Or if I can find one a early 30's ford pickup.
|
My next project? 21' Triton All-Species with 250 Mercury, fully loaded. :D
Oh we're talking cars? Well here's a few....I'd take any one of them. 1965 Buick Riviera 1965 Buick Skylark 1956 Buick Special (yeah I got a thing for Buicks) 1970 Dodge Duster 1966-70 Chevelle 1970-72 Monte Carlo 1970-73 Camaro 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 |
I have another thought - I've always loved the Hotchkis F71. It would be fun to build my version of that.
|
A super low buck track car.. no frills and most likely based on a 67-68 Mustang coupe since they are still sorta cheap. Lots of parts cobbled off other cars and that sort of thing.
Would also like to build something big.. like a '66 Galaxy.. :) |
My fiance wants a '53 or '54 Chevy Bel Air. Chopped and slammed (with air ride), with a good handling suspension, and and Solstice GXP / Sky Redline turbo Ecotec. So that will be the next project ............... eventually  .
David |
I would like to do a Impala, something big with room for the whole family. Fast and manuverable of course. Also would like to make a 4 door, or extended cab early truck, like a 50 something.
|
A '66 Toronado converted to RWD or maybe a '68 Hurst/Olds or 442.
|
I drive my wife nuts with all the projects I want to accomplish....mind you, the 70 Nova is years away from completion.
We'll here's my list: 1. 71 Monte convertible 2. 34 Ford coupe or pickup retro rod 3. 80's Elcy SS 4. 87 Buick GN 5. 67 Eldorado RWD conversion 6. 67 Wildcat convertible 7. 68 Lemans Custom S 8. 69 Torino 9. 68 Cougar XR-7 10. 71 TA 11. 50 Chevy Pickup 12. 57 Buick 13. 69 Boss Mustang If I can get half of those done before my time's up...I'll die a happy man! |
An early to mid '40s Ford two door convertible powered by a super efficient turbo diesel with o/d trans and light weight components designed to run on on bio-fuel, cold a/c, and plenty of creature comforts including saftey equipment like airbags and anti-lock.
|
A 66 chevelle with my father and a 56 Bel- Air convert for my wife..... all pro-tour of course.
|
Ahhhh, projects. I am currently actively working on two of my own projects smattered with some really cool customer cars. These are a 70 Camaro, and a 68 Ply. Satellite. Behind these, I have a complete basket case 65 FB Mustang, and my wife's 62 vette, both of which will get the total makeover. Last weekend, it took every ounce of restraint not to buy a local 69 Chevelle, but I am certain that I won't be able to resist buying one like that "next time," unless a 61 Impala comes along (I have complete stroker rat motor that needs a home, either one of these cars would be a great place to put it).
Beyond all of that, the current project that I think about constantly is a full on track car, based on a 67 Chev II. It'd (well, "will" actually) be a full tube frame deal, with a moderate motor setback at the same time dropping it on the ground via dry-sump. Fiberglass/composite body with full aero, and race slicks. Power would be a Duttweiler type V6 twin turbo motor, light as anything, and huge power (750-ish HP), and the car weight would be around 2300 lbs, wet, less if possible. Sequential trans, three link (of course) rear. Maybe it wouldn't have the refinement of a current Daytona Prototype car ($500k with motor...), but with the extra 200 HP, it would be able to hang with them without too much trouble on the track. Now that's what I call "in your face" cool. I'd put a bumper sticker on the back that says "Bite Me." And I'd probably buy stock in Hoosier too. Mark |

As Soon as The New Dodge Challenger comes out Im goning to fine one That Been totaled and put in my 528 hemi in it That I had laying around for 5 years now. :unibrow:
|
My next project will be the 1965 Buick Special that I drove in high school. My dad got it cheap, then got rearended twice, so there's some bodywork to do. I drove it for at least 4 years before I got my Camaro. The car holds sentimental value, so I'm basically going to restore it. Not a 100 point resto, but not like the Camaro. It's going to wind up a family cruiser...... If I can ever find someone to start a family with.

I would want to do a 67' Camaro or a 69' Challenger into a trans-am style car. With all the old looks and everything classic, it would be the original pro-touring in the original form.
Tim |
A kit Daytona Coupe or a glass bodied chopped '32 five window.......if I had the money.....which I dont.
....or drop a fiberglass Mustang fb body over a recent T/A tube chassis. |
|
A '56 Bel-Air 2-door HT with either an LS7 or a EFI 572, I would also consider a '55
|
I used to think my ultimate would be a 1968 Camaro. . . But after a little ride in Bill Howell's GTO. . . I am starting to lean in that direction. :D
