SLP575 Bumble Bee Finally starting a Build Thread on the car
The car is currently 4-Sale (( https://lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=53923 ))
Way back in 2010 I acquired a new SLP575 from the gentleman who purchased the Syborg TT project. The plan was to put it in the trailer to get it home but it was 2" to long. So I said good-bye to Kenny and I jumped in the Camaro with 17 miles on the clock and 1,732 miles later I was home. The first 1,000 miles was a blast but the last 732 were a bit exhausting. But none the less I made it home in a day & half just in time to grab my daughter and take her to her final diving meet. Looking back I am happy I drove it home which makes it easy to drive it when I want now. I even haul my mountain bike with it from time to time. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/22/e8e9a3e9.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/22/jaty2yme.jpg Saying Goodbye to my 5 year project Syborg TT http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/22/6azu7a7a.jpg John saying goodbye to one of his Camaro's http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/22/e2esuraj.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/22/japadupa.jpg This was my first stop with the car for fuel and food. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/22/yqy9u5a6.jpg Grabbing my daughters to head out to the diving meet http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/22/ady6u6aj.jpg |
The first modification was the most important.
I needed a trailer hitch so I could haul my mountain bike to the trail. What I like the most about this hitch is you don't have to cut up the car in any way shape or form. Bolts on in about 20 minutes. http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20%286%29.JPG http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20%288%29.JPG http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20%281%29.JPG http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20%282%29.JPG http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20%283%29.JPG http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20%284%29.JPG http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20%285%29.JPG |
The second modification I did was to swap out the wheels & tires.
http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20%281%29.jpg |
Okay so now it's time for the fun to begin on the car and try to get rid on the sloppy ride and handling.
After talking with the guys at LG Motorsports and explaining to them that I wanted a very simple brain dead get in it an drive suspension I began collecting parts for the suspension. Due to the fact that Pfadt had just gone out of business I needed to source the parts from various vendors. The fist upgrade was going to be be wheels & tires which I ordered from LG Motorsports so I picked up a staggered set of there ZR28 wheels. http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...8%20Wheels.JPG I had them mounted with the Goodyear Eagle F1 which are standard on the ZL1. http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20%281%29.JPG You can see the difference from the Goodyears to the Nittos http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...20%2812%29.jpg http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...20%2814%29.jpg difference in the front tires can be seen here. http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20%282%29.jpg http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20%286%29.jpg okay I have learned that swapping wheels on a 4 post sucks. I really need to get the sliding jack. http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...0%2817%29a.jpg |
I also ordered a set of Gorrilla locks for the wheels from the guys at Apex Motorsports.
Old vs New http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%282%29-01.jpg http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%283%29-01.jpg and this time I swapped the lugs on the ground using this little tool from the guys at ZL1 Add-Ons. Sure did make life easier this time around. http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%281%29-01.jpg http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%282%29-01.jpg |
When ever I start a build I work with a graphics guy to do a few renderings of what the car may look like when it's complete. This
time I had the pleasure to work with Victor Fulton and I an really excited to show off his work. http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/..._rear_Jpeg.jpg http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...ont_Update.jpg Some of you may have already seen the new MRR Design Model 228 Wheels which look very similar to the wheels on the Z28. When I saw these wheels I new I wanted a set for the car. So I asked Victor put them on the car in rendering. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=383648 http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...l%20Kicker.jpg |
Then my Dad & my brother-n-law both were pulled over for no front plate so I added this cool little mount.

and yes I actually use the hitch for it's main purpose
http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...lder%20007.jpg |
One of things that has driven me crazy since I acquired the car was the mis-matched calipers.
Bobby at LG Motorsports was able to get me the matching rear caliper and mounting bracket for the rear so this was one of the first modifications that I planned to do. http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...20%2813%29.jpg http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20Caliper.jpg This is the front brake kit that was installed on the car as part of the SLP Package. http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...%20%283%29.jpg |
I like the new wheels. How do you like the power from the Magna charger?
|
Render
Love the render Marty! What are your planned upgrades?
|
Since the front tires are so sticky I needed to add a set of splash guards to the front fenders. I picked these up from Showtime and install took about 5 minutes.

That's awesome. I sent you an email but I'll pm you back so you know my email. I have a red giant trance. Usually guys in the trails that have seen me know me by that haha

Love it Marty.
|
Looking great Marty, I figured you might be starting your upgrade process soon.
Any interest in selling the factory rear calipers (rotors too if you're not reusing them)? I'm gradually acquiring the parts to upgrade the brakes on my wife's 2013 V6. |
Good stuff Marty, looking forward to seeing how the Camaro progresses.
|
You have been holding out on me. LOL
|
Sema
Marty,
It was great seeing you at SEMA! Thanks for letting me see your Camaro photos then. --Eric |
Hey Marty, looking good. Cant wait to see it come together.
|
Thanks guys this car is so much fun to work on. It's clean and all of the bolts just come off.
Plus all the parts actually just bolt on like they say. ps JKnight - saving the calipers for a 3rd gen Camaro project |

The next step was to start collecting all the parts needed for the suspension modifications. Pfadt had just closed there doors when I started collecting the parts so I had to get all the parts from various vendors. I want to thank all of them for helping because if they didn't have the part they said to try one of the other guys and I was able to get all the parts I needed.

You think that jack adapter from ZL1 Add ons would work with the G8/SS?
I need something for my SS sedan. Also - Pfadt is back if you didn't run into them at SEMA. They are under AFE Power now - so you might bet able to get parts from them soon(ish) in 2015.... Also your making me want to start tinkering with my SS sedan - I still have the CTS-V 6 piston brembos and the wheels. That - or sell all that and get an 1LE, lol! |

btw Thank you for the heads up on AFE that makes me really happy |
Next up was to locate a set of Recaro seats for the car and lucky me a set of seats became available on camaro5 forum.
They are basically brand new as the passenger seat was only sat in few times and the drivers seat had a new hyde installed as well as a seat cushion prior to them being shipped to me. http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...ro%20Seats.JPG Here is what they actually look like. (not actual seat factory photo) http://garagescene.net/gallery3/var/...r%20Recaro.jpg |
I accidentally bought a 1le front Splitter from G5 Carbon for the car.

So when do we start to install some of these cool kid parts :popcorn2: :poke:
