Project '66 GEDAGRIP
2 Attachment(s)
For a member with so very few posts, I must say it doesn't reflect the inspiration and knowledge I've gathered over the last few years. Here is some history on the car to where it currently sits - literally. Many thanks to Steve - ADRNELIN, who has personally guided and continues to labor with me around this build. Couldn't do it without you brother. Started with a tired but clean turn key (driver) Georgia car. Had an average restoration from a 327 sport coup to an SS about 10 years ago. The objective for the build overall is to mainly cruise and hit the local autocross a few times a year. With all the variations of what a protour car is, well to put it plainly, I want a modern car while doing everything I can to keep it looking like it rolled out of the factory in Atlanta back in '66.

No matter, I hope to be driving shot-gun in Steve's :king: '69 Camaro due out this spring - no pressure bud… |
Thankfully on track - put my order in for a complete all aluminum LS6 + T56 with complete Howell harness, and drive accessories with A/C. Just sold my 454 big block and TH400 locally. Time to get the engine bay freshened up over the summer for delivery in September. Needless to say I'm blown' fuses with excitement...:headspin:
If any of you come across some quality long tube headers through contacts, send them my way. Cheers, |
Glad to hear that, Joe. Think you'll have it running again before winter or is the plan to work on it through the winter?
|
Sweet looking Chevelle, and a great project. I can't wait to see more.

The funds and time only allow to get the motor/trans in by September. Hopefully get the American Auto Wire kit, Dakota gauges, rad, tank over the winter months. I have my fingers crossed that she'll be on the road for summer '16. For now, going to get a fix of inspiration down in Columbus at the Goodguys event - never miss it! |
I hear you budgets are the boss. I'm jealous I've never been to a GoodGuys event. Enjoy it for the both of us.

What I call a 'freshening up' as I go along in stages. I'll leave the body work and paint to the pros as the last step). LS6/T56 are due to arrive in a couple of weeks. Crazy excited!
|
looking good Joe,looking forward to Columbus, next year:thumbsup:
|
Hey Joe the velles engine bay is looking crisp!!!! It's ripe for the transplant.
|
Progress is looking great Joe! You've got an awesome powerplant combo headed your way!
How was the install on the Speedtech kit? I'm starting to research which company to go with for our 66. |
Looking great! Keep us updated with pics!

Ed - They were once a great Canadian company. Now they are a great (Canadian?) company closer to the action in the U.S! All good. I bought the complete track time kit in the summer of 2012 (including the spindles) as they were getting ready to move to Utah. Liked the fact that their focus was the Chevelle and the Nova. Installed it with Steve in 2013. Mary Pozzi gave it some 'real time' reviews. I haven't driven in it yet, but if its anything like the installation, it will agree with Pozzi's comments. A complete and professional set-up! Jay and Roger at Speed Tech are great to work/deal with. You should seriously give them some time and research. Oh and by the way - great score with the '66. A real nice place to start... Hope that helps... |

Install went very smoothly thanks to http://www.brphotrods.com/
Quality made in the USA. Pulling it out, going to do some minor work on the tunnel and then installing motor and trans together. Also have their trans cross-member for the T56. |
It looks good in there. Nice when things work as advertised.

Great build, in the middle of my own '66 project. Did you use the BRP oil pan as well?
|
Quote:
Unfortunately the LH8 known as the hot rod pan hangs below the cross member by 2.5-3 inches. Lowered car, not good! Sold it local and went with a Holley LS 302-1. Clears steering at full lock and flush with the cross member. Hope that helps... |
Great looking car and I love the updates. Keep em coming and that ls6 looks awesome.

Appreciate it Marty! Good meeting you last summer in Columbus. Was there with Steve and we spent sometime huddled around Jeff's lovely '69. Anyways, yes the LS6 looks good, but then all LS's look great. Headers, rad, complete wiring, gauges, and tank next...
