So I'm looking at the July issue of Super Chevy...
I was flipping through the July issue of Super Chevy, checked out the article on the Shaver BBC crate motor and I notice a cool looking stainless thermostat housing. So I checked out the website of the manufacturer... and it's $135! For a T-stat housing! lol Oh well.
Anyways, here's the link if anyone wants to check it out: www.performancesst.com http://performancesst.com/images/photos/therm_1053.jpg |
Okay, so I'm retarded. I was looking at picking up one of those.

Its for the detail oriented people! I could understand getting one if you have a $10,000 engine on a spotless show car, but if you are gonna drive the car, and cover half the thing up with a hose, then I don't know...could be better used money someplace else.

Know what you mean. I went to the garage and polished my aluminum one for another year's use :)
|
That's no more crazier than those $500 Momo steering wheels that people buy or the $400 piece of sheet metal at Detroit Speed to cover your core support. Yeah I know, "Manufacturing costs dude!!!!" I get it...settle down now.
To each his own, my brotha'....to each his own. |
That is it, I am officially getting into the automotive aftermarket biz.
I think we could CNC one out of a chunk of 316 and step on the price 30% and still sell it for that. The stainless is hard on cutters and slow to machine, but not that bad. ;) Actually, I am going to do a few "G-job" projects for my car as company development projects in the next few months. Probably a big bore TB for the upcoming motor that uses the electronic throttle control from the factory LS7. Plan is for that to work with a sheet metal intake. All good plans, wonder if I can make them happen?? |

I with ya Tony, but the thing looks real good installed, you have to see it in person, the hinges are just cool as sheeot too,
|
That thing is cool! And for stainless that price sounds reasonable to me. Hell a polished aluminum one from Billet Specialties is $70.

If you look at the SC article in PDF, you can really see the detail:

One of the features I do like is its ability to swivel. This allows it to be placed in any "non-binding" postition. Plus, hopefully it would never leak. But the price IS pretty far out there.
Then again, the price of the billet taillights that many on here have at almost $500 a set or the billet hood hinges at $600 aren't exactly cheap either. Does anyone have an extra money tree growing in their back yard ? :unibrow: |
It also looks very compact. Which will help out with my crossover breather tube clearance. I ran into packaging issues when I relocated my engine. This could help.
It's only money. |
Sorry, My EX killed the money tree before she left, now the state pics up where the tree left off, I really liked that tree!!

Perhaps that is a suggested retail price and the actual street price will be less. I bet people would jump at for say $90...
|
It's $139.95 at Summit. Maybe if I was building a show car or just really needed the swivel neck.
|
We have used CVR aluminum housings that are just north of $100, so I do not think this is out of line. As stated, when going on top of a high dollar bullet...............

I got one from Billet specialties for my car...

This thing would of worked well for me too. Like Steevo, I had a hard time getting my upper rad hose to clear my breather cross-over.
|
