Thunderhill Feb 28

Anyone signed up or planning on attending? I plan on driving down and helping where I can. Not sure they'll run the full course but it'll be a good time either way!

I wish! I already have plans for both weekends of the west coast Optima events this year :/ They need to release next year's dates in the fall!

I just checked in with Jimi to see whether he thinks he'll have enough room in the paddock for my rig. If he does - then I'm going to roll over there just to harass the hell out of everyone. That's weather permitting of course. I'm not a big fan of rolling the rig in snow on mountain passes - but I'm hoping we're heading into spring like conditions by then.

I need to get the Mustang back to Sutton for some touchup work before NorCal Shelby in May anyway... this would give me an excuse to roll. Like I need one. LOL

rustomatic 01-11-2015 07:46 PM

By whom?

New edit: Oh, it's the USCA thing. I had fun volunteering at the Laguna Seca event last year. I may go out to watch the autocross part--I'm interested to see where they'll put it. Otherwise, I'll save my dollars for some regular track days.

I'm trying to hold off until March, but I may be inclined to cheat on the last day of February...

With that in mind, one should always expect a good soaking in northern CA in February. It's kind of a thing...

Edit: I found the Chump Car listing. Nope...

Irony: $1000.00 race fee for a series that prides itself on junk cars...

Awesomeness: You can rent Thunderhill all for yourself in January ("off-peak times") for a $1000.00...

USCA.... their first event of the year.

73CPCAMARO 01-11-2015 09:24 PM

I will be there running my Camaro. It should be a great event. So many we're hoping USCA goes to Thunderhill, so let's get a huge turnout! :gitrdun:

See if you can pull Maier away from the business long enough to come play, Thunderhill is a great place to pick up parts!

Greg, Jimi said he's got plenty of room for you....just south of the main gate!:mock:

I've spent many a night right where you reference! It's a dandy spot!

craig510 01-12-2015 11:03 AM

I'll be there with my little falcon.

rustomatic 01-25-2015 11:34 AM

I'm doing the one-day, Saturday . . . not looking forward to stickers, though, as they may de-emphasize my hard-earned dents . . .

Bob, your cars are too nice--maybe we could hook you up with a vinyl wrap that looks like patina . . . perhaps there's money in this idea . . .

I like the Patina Vinyl Wrap Idea
I have seen some guys try to replicate the Patina look
and failed big time.. I still have a thing for the Rat rods
or Trucks.. hope to do one some day but getting these
other cars ready to race takes too much time..

Thinking of coming up as a spectator...so where is everyone staying?

JakeR 01-30-2015 01:48 PM

We will be there with our Camaro, hoping to stay in our rig at the track.

We have been staying at the Baymont Inn 530 934-9700
recently.. a lot of Norcal Shelby and Checkered flag guys
stay there.. all are just Motels really ... Not sure if Optima
has a host hotel/motel

Bob

pro71bird 01-30-2015 07:13 PM

We have a room at the Holiday Inn.

clill 01-30-2015 10:03 PM

Holiday inn is the nicest

Sieg 02-01-2015 09:13 PM

At this point I'm trying to make it down there. It's a 400 mile drive and if I go I'll leave here at 3:30-4 p.m. on Friday and leave the track around 5 p.m. on Sunday. :knokwood:

MattO 02-02-2015 03:35 AM

I live about an hour from the track, so I'll be commuting. I MIGHT be able to convince a friend of my dad's to let me sleep on his couch and cut that commute by 40 mins lol

EDIT: Oh yea, Dad is coming too. Greg, pack some bigger pants in case they have kettle corn there lol

Jimi said the Baymont Inn is the spot. So we booked there. No group rate though, but oh well....we are in.

Charley was correct when he said the Holiday Inn Express is the spot.... It's newer and nicer. Don't know what the price difference is.

DBasher 02-09-2015 09:02 PM

My pops and I stayed at some two story building with a bunch of rooms next to a Mexican restaurant. It was decent and I didn't catch anything, good enough!

00fxd 02-16-2015 01:06 AM

I would like to volunteer. I sent Larry an app but have not heard back ...

Edit: I have heard back. They need vol's...

MattO 02-16-2015 10:44 PM

Looks like a decent turnout. So there will be plenty of witnesses to my stupidity :twak:

You've got a bad ass lil truck Matt and plenty of seat time, even if is just commuting! Be sure to take advantage of the expert drivers on the autox and road course, it may be the best part of the weekend!

Oh and don't forget to smile for the camera!

FWIW - Current forecast dictates warmer than usual clothing.

Hobaugh will bring my new "race car" (hardly what I'd call it, but whatever) and I'll drop the Mustang off with Sutton on Monday ---- so all in a good weekends worth of work.
