Speedlimit Racing in Camarillo CA

This past weekend we had a small Auto-X in Camarillo.. My stomping ground of where we dial our cars in.. Had some of best drivers attend.. Brian/Steve Hobough, Mike Maier, Frank Stangnaro, Karl Dunn, Jake Rozzelle, Danny Popp, Cheryl from Jethot, Wilwood Mustang, Falken Tires was there.. It was a great event that we all just had a bunch of running our cars & sorting them out.. It was a fast track!

The Trans Am is not bad.. we got the front working pretty good.. just ran out of time to get the rear dialed in.. JJ from JRI/Ultimate Performance is building some custom shocks for the rear... What we learned from Blu Balz & Jake Rozelle's Camaro.. We now dial in a DSE car pretty quick..

Bob- Tran Am's are one of my favorite cars! if you are coming down let me know.. Sometimes we have Friday's as test & tune days like we did last weekend.. for test n tune days we limit it to about 10 people so that there is enough people getting the track time.. This past Friday Wilwood was there helping with brake issues, Falken Tires was there trying to show them why we need a 335-30-18 :D .. Maier was out there testing some new suspension designs, JJ from JRI/Ultimate Performance was working on shocks & suspension set ups.. I was testing the new 65 Vette with the Van Steel suspesnsion with Jake & Danny .. Also testing the new aero for USCA on C5 Vetts.. Hobaugh was testing some new ideas for grip.. Then on Saturday & Sunday we had the event..

Jeri- We have never advertised the event because we keep it small.. Limit it to about 30 cars per day.. We sell out fast! so if you go to the web site we have a calendar of events..

Chris,
I will keep an eye out on your site
The Firebird has been on the back burner for many
years.. damn Pantera was taking up too much of my time
I am now focused on the bird and getting it dialed in
I ran for many years when Brian was a kid, along with
his dad, Frank and Maier's father in law who was my rival
in ESP in Norcal.. still the same old car and old driver with some
new things added

Thanks for the the info.. cool place to run the cars

Bob

Cris, whose silver 2nd gen is that? On your lift (your not far from Camarillo?) and does it have a DSE rear? I know its one of two i really like......

Flash68 01-22-2015 05:18 PM

Good cars, good shocks, good people... looks like you're just missing the good beer. :rules:

Cris@JCG 01-22-2015 05:19 PM

It is Paul Alderman's DSE built Camaro.. he brought over to us to do some repairs & to be able to do our test & tune's! He had a blast that weekend that we expect to be seeing more of him @ our events..

Bob- I want to check that car out! if you raced with ken Mitchell then you would know Casey Cronin who raced in ESP & lived up north too.. he is who sets up our courses & taught me how to Auto-X!

Chris,
Did Casey have a black 3rd gen
And worked teaching at Mather AFB

If so he would show up every once in a while
Smoke all of us and leave. He had his own
Practice course there and he was very fast

Bob

Cris@JCG 01-23-2015 05:11 PM

Casey did drive a black 3rd Gen Camaro but intructed @ the CHP academy.. Mather hosted the Sheriffs EVOC training..

So Who/What is Speedlimit Racing?

Cris@JCG 01-23-2015 07:31 PM

It got started when I needed a place to tune Blu Balz.. It is how I meet Casey Cronin & Darren Friedman (Polished Kirkham Cobra).. Camarillo Airport granted JCG a permit to test & tune on the abandoned airway so I a few people would come in & run with me while I was dialing in Blu.. with the opportunity to run in Camarillo Darren saw that we could run small events close to us with a great location.. So he launched Speedlimit Racing in a formal format that had all the requirements for an Autocross event.. I did not have the time to commit to running an event but stay somewhat active in the events.. Casey sets up the courses & is the enforcer of the small list of rules we have..

Darren runs a very well organized event that get people plenty of run time by limiting it to 30 people per day.. We pretty much have an event once a month & now are looking at having some driving school with tuning days thru out the week but do not have a full commitment to it yet.. We are just blessed with a great central location with great weather..

Basic format for Speedlimit Racing is Autocross! no classes, no competion, recorded times @ the end of the day, plenty of time make adjustments between sessions, fast technical tracks, great grip on new sealed surface, You can run full aero packages on your car :D .. Wings are encouraged to match the planes that are landing over us while driving!

If you want to attend.. you must register on line! We sell out quick & people wait till the last minute thinking we will have spots to run & will squeeze them in..

This past weekend I coordinated a Test n Tune on Friday with some of my buddies & that is how we got some of the fast people in one place.. Then we ran in the event on Saturday & Sunday!

So sum day when you get your car completed.. It would be great for you to come run with us.. :whenitsdone:

Speed limit racing

Cris it sounds like a perfect event
With all the technology out there
It would be great to do some test and
tuning. I really want to learn how good
my car can be. Raced for so long with
just trying to keep it together with few
adjustments. Now time to see what can
work or not. Ran so many events with just
three runs it made it hard to figure things out

Bob

Cris, when are you going to perform some of your metal magic and put a t/a hood scoop on the car? Looks naked without it.

rustomatic 01-25-2015 05:33 PM

Great pics and very nice cars--northern CA was very well represented, I see...

Stagnaro's Mustang (white CP car) has been stuck in my head since the late '90s, and it still kicks booty all day long...

Cris@JCG 01-26-2015 10:26 AM

Chet- As soon as we sort out the drivability on the tune & make sure that is set-up we are staying with.. Agree! looks naked without it..

We have a great group guys from Norcal! & it was great to see Stagnaro's Mustang in our play ground.. Luv that car.. gave me some ideas on what I would build if I had time to work on my own stuff..
