'FUSED' 1968 Camaro by Roadster Shop
Introducing a new thread for a build we have been chipping a way at for a few months now.
The customer brought us a somewhat decent starting point for the planned build using a Wegner LS7 pushing around 650HP mated to a T56 and utilizing our FAST TRACK IRS chassis. The plan would be a clean, stylish '68 picking up some contemporary design cues from European coupes without losing the distinct flavor of the 1st gen Camaro in a pro-touring package: hence the name 'Fused'. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8573/...56e46c0b_b.jpg The starting point: https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8600/...9d0db0fa_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7455/...427149c8_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8613/...fa32ed90_b.jpg Chassis in place right away. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7430/...4b76b38c_b.jpg Rear tub and trunk floor fab - not all of this is necessary with the chassis install, but with the plan for the car (ie, not needing to be original) and time frame, this was simply quicker. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7346/...91e9ef9f_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7289/...a1e8e619_b.jpg Trick fuel fill location and truck latch combo: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7395/...1efb4cdb_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8645/...d35ab3c3_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7354/...e82b7203_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8563/...ef3d8f32_b.jpg Smoothing out firewall: https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8563/...ef3d8f32_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7343/...0883fd53_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7364/...4d205f69_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8621/...9eb7ceaa_b.jpg |
anymore pics of the 32 behind the Camaro?
sorry for hijacking. |
I cant wait to see this one come together. Love the rendering. I can already tell this will be one of my favorites.
Man, that is a nice shop too. Looking at the "GoPro" 2nd gen, i was looking in the backround, really admiring the shop. I hope to have a glass shop (well my own building) this nice one day.... |

Can't wait to see this one being completed was well. All of the Roadster Shop builds are my favorites. |
Killer rendering Chris! Enjoy all the little details and touches you guys put on your cars. It's the simple little things can make a big difference. In this case the fuel filler & trunk latch. Slick idea. Look forward to seeing this one unfold.
|
OK now you guys are just showing off..... This thing is going to look amazing as usual . Beautiful sheet metal work.
|
I like the gas filler/trunk latch. The rendering looks great. Tons of mods, but in a very subtle/clean way.
|
Can't wait to see this, always cool stuff from you guys.

Corvette door handle mod that we first did on the 2nd gen race car and wanted to use on a 'regular' build...
Smoothed area: https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8608/...a6d6f22c_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7405/...95dbc94c_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8590/...de7aa7e3_b.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8674/...057cb0b8_b.jpg At this point we had a plan for the interior - not a huge departure from factory other than cleaned up lines, some cosmetic enhancements such as newer Camaro vents, double din unit and some tweaked trim for a cleaner feel. 2 of the mods to tackle first were the center cluster on the dash and building the blisters for the new Camaro ac vents: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7295/...261a6a6a_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7296/...9ca6047e_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7318/...16d3b2a9_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7420/...0690cc7d_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7286/...1b9c7ea9_b.jpg |

Unbelievable! I think I'm just going to throw in the towel now before it's too late...

Awesome stuff guys.
I like the Corvette door handle idea. Very cool. |
Nice work and I really like the dash and door panels as they flow together in the rendering.
|
Love the fuel filler!!!

I don't care who you are...that is AWESOME!! nice work again |
I just noticed, that looks like a "Blum" hinge used for cabinetry....trick. Love crossover stuff...
|
Thanks for all the comments!!
Another trick mod we wanted to try on this car was the 'split' fender detail. Seems counter intuitive to actually add split lines to a surface on these cars, but this one just seems to work quite nicely with a nod to the clam shell style hood of an F-type Jag. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7292/...71f657fe_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7289/...e44a7220_b.jpg Fender will get a machined insert in a contrast paint finish so we created the pocket below the split line to accommodate it. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8641/...57b01e4b_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7454/...1466e7c8_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7320/...1813ab48_b.jpg (only held in with tape for the pic...) https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7350/...b7895258_b.jpg |
Wow. .. Subtle details make is what make certain builds stand apart. Outstanding.
|
With the detail matched on both sides, we moved to the rearward details.
