Shoulder bar help
 

Guys looking to install a shoulder belt bar in my "65 mustang. I saw this pic of a first gen camaro on another site and can't remember where I saw it ask him any questions.
What I'm wondering is what size bar and thickness should I use and how do I tie the bar into the inner quarter. Is this strong enough for street driving and autocross driving?
I would like to have a bolt in bar for the rare chance I take the family to a local cruise night.
It will be interesting to see the opinions about this.

I spent all weekend with the car and didn't get any pictures of the bar...I'll get up this weekend and take some.

Basically it's a "tank plate" that will mount a stock seat or aftermarket, this mounts in the stock seat location and supports a few things. A bar runs from the outer edge of the plate up to the height at drivers shoulder and over to passengers shoulder and back down to the plate. Two supports come off and tie into the center seat belt mounts of the rear seat.

It's a really nice easy set up that mounts his aftermarket seats and 5 point belts and in less than 5 minutes the bar is out and the kids are getting in.

I'll get pictures that'll help explain it all.

I hope those fiberglass side panels are up to the task!!
I think the bottom picture would be better with the down tubes running back between the seat. but still not much support on the side with just the sheetmetal attachment point, I would /could only assume that it has been reinforced to some degree where we can not see it.

This harness bar was constructed for "Snowblind", our 67 Camaro. We used 1 5/8" chromolly with 1" CM braces. The bar is attached to a removeable threaded mount (when removed will accept an upholstered plug) which is mounted to an 1/8" plate that fits into the recess in the body. we then have another plate backing it up to sandwich the body with 3 bolts. The braces mount to the subframe connectors.

So I stopped in yesterday and took a few pictures with the IPhone 6 (hate it)
The "tank plate" mounts with the original points of the stock seat, remove the stock seat and bolt down the plate.

The plate now holds the after market seat, 5 point belts and the bar for the shoulder belts.

It takes more time putting the kiddo seats in then removing or installing the harness bar.:thumbsup:
I spoke to 425 Motorsports in Bellevue and they actually carry a seat pan for quite a few early cars, including Mustangs. I'll be going this route with the wife's car when the time comes.

DanB --- 425 did a lot of work on my Lotus when I first got it -- they have good people there and are very helpful.

Did you mention Alex's business?.....I did! He was checking it out while I was shopping and commented on what great looking products they have!

I have figured out the shoulder bar, but have not built it yet, just ordered my new seats and waiting for them to show up. Should have it done soon.
