USCA at Texas Motor Speedway...Who's going?

USCA at Texas Motor Speedway is only 3 weeks away. Who's in?

The shop is thrashing to get our Trans Am KLRBRD ready for the event and if our 69 Camaro does not sell, I will be driving it.

Last year was a BLAST so really looking forward to what is in store from the USCA crew this year.

Rag Top Rob 03-09-2015 07:57 PM

I've got a 2013 ZL1 convertible and would love to play........

rickpaw 03-09-2015 08:21 PM

I'm in. Signed up and booked hotel. Still need to have the car aligned. This is my first track event so I'm both excited and nervous.

PS: I'm staying in Hotel 6 across the freeway from TMS. Where's everyone staying?

Tu

carbuff 03-09-2015 08:29 PM

At the moment, I'm still planning to attend both GG and USCA. I'm also staying at the Motel 6 across 35 from the highway. If you haven't stayed there before, be forewarned that it's pretty bare bones. You have to pay an extra $2 or $3 a day for WiFi even. That's ok, it's a lot cheaper than anything else around there, and I generally just want to pass out at the end of each day! :)

Rag Top Rob 03-09-2015 08:31 PM

Just read the rules, no convertibles with out a roll bar, I'm out..

gerno 03-09-2015 08:54 PM

I'll be there for sure. Debating the Motel 6 or not but the event is for sure..

The roll bar might only be for the road course as higher speed there, I would send a message to USCA and check with them, because you might be able to do day 1 which is autocross, speed stop, road rally and Holley Welcome Party...

I'll be there, flight booked, HIE...

Gscherer78ta 03-11-2015 12:50 PM

I'm confirmed! I'll be staying at home, about 7 miles away from the speedway! Finally, something close to me!

GrabberGT 03-11-2015 06:39 PM

I'm in. Still don't know about the car though. I should be wrapping it up tomorrow then out for some test, tune and see if anything shakes apart. Lol

Will do....Thanks

chichirone 03-11-2015 09:56 PM

The Camaro and the TA are officially registered.

Chris, I've seen Mavy shake itself apart before. Kind of like my alternator housing blowing apart last fall at the GG's event. Get it buttoned up and some testing in this weekend at SCCA.

For those interested, a group of us are renting Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, TX on Tuesday, March 24th for a test and tune day before the event at TMS. Let me know if you want to join us. ([email protected]) The cost is around $100 and there will be only 12-15 cars so you will get a ton of practice and tuning time.

silver63c10 03-12-2015 08:21 AM

Registered! About 30 minutes from home for me, so no hotel needed. Kicked myself last year for missing it, so I can't wait.

Looking forward to the test day at Lone Star, too - we definitely need it since I've gotten a total of 8 runs, 4 of which were wet, on our new combination.. Optimistic that we've moved in the right direction, though.

rickpaw 03-17-2015 10:09 AM

For those of us who will be trailering the car, and arrive Friday afternoon/night, will we be able to park the car/trailer inside the garage at TMS? Watching last year's event on MavTV, I remembered them mentinoning have the cars parked in a secured garage overnight. I contacted TMS, and they said to contact USCA. I sent an email to USCA via their contact page as well.

Any ideas?

GrabberGT 03-17-2015 12:52 PM

The Mav is finally street legal. Unfortunately, after checking my tire tread, I am already at 2/32 depth. After this Goodguys weekend, they likely wont pass inspection for USCA. Anyone have a stockpile of Rivals, Falkens, or RS-3's you are willing to sell? All anyone has available is Nitto NT05's. All other brands are out of stock. Kind of pathetic that we are already starting our season and all the 200tw tires are gone. I can use 265-275 front and 275, 285, or 295 rear in an 18". Discount tire can get me the NT05's in a couple days so I'll wait till Thursday to place my order just in case something else comes along.

tmadden 03-17-2015 06:19 PM

Hopefully my health will allow. If I can get all the young people off the scooters

carbuff 03-17-2015 10:01 PM

Chris,

I checked earlier today and Discount Tire Direct had a pair listed on eBay. Before when I purchased mine, they didn't show any on eBay, but I emailed them and they put a pair up for me to purchase.

Actually, I just searched, and they show a listing for 4 of them:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-NEW-275-40...item4863310a97

When I emailed them they responded quickly. Perhaps you can call or email through eBay to confirm they are available, but the listing shows 2 sets...

Good luck! See you this weekend, weather permitting.

Gscherer78ta 03-19-2015 01:29 PM

I have a question about the rules....

The way I read the rules for the novice group in the speedstop and autocross events that I won't need to have driving shoes and gloves and a neck device. I would need a SA2010 helmet and long pants and sleeves.

For those who went to Thunderhill- what did the novices do there? I think the requirements for the road race are slightly different.

Greg

Panteracer 03-19-2015 02:52 PM

Optima texas

I only ran the first day.. autocross and stop box.. no requirement
for anything other than helmet and long sleeves and pants

good luck and have fun.. a good place to really
run the car as much as you can and dial a few
things in as you go

Saturday night Holley welcome party is at Pole Position Karting. This will be a blast. We had a stop there during last years road rally. It's on the USCA FB page.

Anyone hear about Advanced Auto Parts having spectator tix available at their stores? I called the local AAP and the manager said he received an email and a box but did not have any details. Took my name and was supposed to call back but never heard anything. Called another store today and they had no clue and in fact the manager told me they were not aware of AAP sponsoring any events at TMS. Oh well...buying spectator tix online instead.

I bought spectator tickets for two of my
buddies at the event at Thunderhill with no
issues. Not like the event in Vegas where they
can sell out

I called the Denton location within hours of the announcement. They knew exactly what it was about and said they have tickets.

Rag Top Rob...a friend wants to run his Miata with no roll bar at TMS. We emailed Jimi Day and he replied "we will allow a one day entry for autocross, speed stops and road rally with the Miata". Send him a message and see if you can do the one day if still interested.

tmadden 03-28-2015 07:37 PM

Had a blast today watching the cars. Wish I had competed. Great job guys.

rickpaw 03-28-2015 08:05 PM

Had a blast today too. Did my first auto-x and speed stop. Overall I did OK, I think.

Can't wait for the road course tomorrow.

Great weekend with a bunch of Lat-G pals. Enjoyed hanging with friends, old and new. These USCA events do not disappoint. I'm worn out from a ton of seat time the past 2 days. Hope all required to travel, Tu, Bryan, Steve and others made it home safely. I'll post some pics soon.

Seriously, if you are contemplating attending a USCA event, GO DO IT! Jimi and the team put on a great time.

Echo... "GO DO IT!" I Had a great time. I feel for you guys driving home after this event . Im flat worn out. I fell to sleep at 8 on the couch and was in bed by 9. I wish I didnt have to work today. I need to recover. WHAT A WEEKEND!

The Mav survived the road course with no damage... that I know of yet. Need to get under it and inspect EVERYTHING. I dont think I've ever pushed it that hard. I had one "off track" if you want to call it that. I missed a shift and felt it better to take the paved shortcut/runoff than try to make the turn and end up sideways.

Future upgrade list is being created now. Upgrades to include beefing up the panhard bar setup and cooling system. After 10 minutes in 80 temps, the car was running close to 230* which is 20* more than I like to see.

The new tires did well. I cant say they did better than the falkens as I was able to get larger sizes in the NT01 that arent available in the Falcons but I noticed no degradation in traction. On the roadcourse, they held well and provided plenty of confidence to keep pushing harder.

Gscherer78ta 03-30-2015 07:23 AM

Ditto the above sentiments! I had a blast and this was my first time and I'm wondering how I can scrap up enough cash to travel to another event. A great event and great people all the way around! I was very happy with the TA and the instruction I got on autocross will really give me some things to work on the rest of the summer so I can get my times down a little...

Why were Tucker and Popp in exhibition class?

Smitty, nice job on the sweep!

Based on a post from the Facebooks (can't remember what your derogatory term is for it off the top of my head.)

They were running the new Rival "S"......which aren't available to the public yet, therefore they had to run in the exhibition class.

Just speculating here... Tucker was running the BFG RivalS but since its not yet "commercially available", its not a legal tire for use. On the road-course, an entire team of would come out and check his tire temps (using probes) and pressures and logging them every few laps.

Not sure about Popp. He was driving "Snoopy", which, though driven by Rumpke at Thunderhill, was also listed as exhibition class. So the real question is, why is "Snoopy" in the exhibition class.

What I heard Saturday night at the welcome party was that Kyle and Danny were running the new Rival S.

Great meeting more of you guys out there. I had a blast as well. Found a few of the limits on my car too and now ready to start a few more upgrades. I really wanted to see the video of my spin coming in to turn 1 on the road course but apparently something went wrong with my VIRB and it only recorded one of my sessions. Oh well.

Hope to see y'all out for more events in the future.

Tu - Can you post up some of the pics you were taking?

As mentioned above, it had to do with their tires. May just be a rumor but...Rival S should be out shortly, as in a couple weeks :stirthepot:

silver63c10 03-30-2015 02:08 PM

If there's a better way to spend a weekend, I'd really like someone to tell me about it. The only downside was coming back to the real world this morning.

My girlfriend was taking pictures Saturday, I'll get through them this week sometime and post some up.

Not that you need them Mr. I-Got-a-New-Corvette. Just curious, did you run faster than the guy with the C7 z06? I didnt even notice it until we were leaving.

Chris, you mean the yellow Z06? Not sure if it was in multiple groups, but it was driven by a very nice lady in my group (novice group 2). She really liked my Firebird, but she wouldn't do a straight trade. :)

It is available to order at tirerack.com. They're backordered, but production is ramping up for April delivery I'm told.

I'd love some real world / non-hype feedback on the tire's performance!
