Spectacular crash Larry Dixon top fuel

It looks like his front end lifts and then front of dragster breaks in the middle. Very bizzare, glad he walked away from it.

wow! glad he's ok

It is crazy how much the chassis flex's on one of those cars.
He is a lucky guy! I sure wouldn't have wanted that ride.

looks like a chassis failure.....reminds me of the flip up crash I saw up in Sonoma years back involving Eddie Hill.

Jer, wasn't there rule changes with the front spoiler? Seems the two spoilers fighting each other (rear pulling the chassis up and the front pushing down) maybe finding a design flaw in the rail just ahead of the drivers pod. Love to be in that garage during the inspection.

Glad Dixon made it out of this one ok.

Crazy stuff. They're designed to flex like that to work properly, but I would assume that there was a bad piece of seel or a craked weld or something.

I got a buddy that works on Antrons car/team and he's building a Jr. Dragster for his daughter and it's amazing how much that thing flexes!!

Not sure about the rule change. I'm sure you already know that it's purposely built to bend in the middle or else it would wheelstand at half track. It's the only way it's possible to keep the front tires on the track. That's why you see them bow up in the middle. They are on the edge of breaking..INSANE!

Here's some still shots of the wreck

What I was getting at was the frame work was designed to take a certain amount of pressure and if a rule change caused an increase in pressure without a frame rail redesign. ie: putting a 9000 lbs vehicle on a rack rated at 4500 lbs

Also this is Dixons 2nd frame failure. Wonder if the frames are made at one place with the same weldor.

The still shots above are impressive. It happens so fast, you really can't tell in the video, but easy to see when it breaks in the stills. Glad he came out OK.

I read somewhere that the nitro guys had gone to a carbon nano chassis material? I have no idea how you'd fuse that stuff together.
I totally agree with SP, the still shots do give you a different perspective of just how violent these accidents are.

I'd guess the rear wing busted the chassis......the front wing was definitely working too!
