BMX value knowledge....
Hello all,
I have a, I think, complete1985 Haro freestyle master one. Also, the bike has redline handle bars, 3 piece cranks, and I forget the name of the wheels and pedals. I will post a picture later. I had someone tell me the bike was worth something today...where cam I find an accurate fair market value? eBay seems crazy high.. |

LOL, thanks for the shout out, Dan.
Ya, that is a highly sought after bike and the ebay prices are mostly real. Just like cars, there's some guys who would prefer to restore it themselves as some really geek out on it and others would prefer it as is with the vintage patina or you can do the resto yourself and try to get top dollar. All depends on time, money and how much you care. The link Dan posted to Vintage BMX is a great start as well as www.BMXmuseum.com or just throw it up on ebay and see what you get. |
Dan,
That was funny. Also, thanks for he link. Jason, I appreciate the info. I honestly thought eBay was crazy prices...I may throw it up there and see what happens. |
Big bucks there sir.
Needs some work, but they still fetch good money. People are always looking for these awesome freestyle/bmx bikes. I bought a 2009 Haro Freestyler reissue with the Skyway Tuff II's. |

Jason,
Where do I find the year build on the bike? I looked on the bottom side of the frame, but there are no numbers. Also, was 4130 chromoly a special addition for haro? |

Dan told me what the year was by looking at pics! Damn he is good.
|
Man I always wanted one of those when I was growing up!! Just couldn't afford it really, so I had to settle for a Hustler (don't know much about it) but it got stolen and then a Diamond Back. Haro's were the bomb! Didn't know there was still a demand for those old bikes. Didn't expect to learn that on here, LoL!

Scott beat me to it. I read this thread when it first started and had to chuckle. I never thought a BMX bike would have future collector value and I didn't think I'd ever find that out on this website. I think it's great that there can be a collector market for all sorts of items that most people wouldn't even think about. Good luck to you guys. Guess I'm going to have to keep my eyes out when I pass yard sales now.
Edit: Who here, besides me, loved the movie Rad? Come on, no lying and pretending that you didn't. |
Hell Track!!
Sat down and watched it with my boys awhile back, classic! |

I'm down with the Flu currently. I will roll this out side and shine her up when I feel better. Sorry for the crappy picture. |

I'm not a collector but I raced a Hutch and screwed around on half pipes on a Haro Master back in the day and now I'm back racing and it's funner than ever. I won't lie, this is more fun than autocross. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...pskyf15cbb.jpg |

Yeah,...if it all original you will get some good coin for that bike. Looks to be in good shape too. Just needs a little TLC. Feel better soon bud! |

How often do you race? I will admit, it is fun being on a BMX bike. You got to be in shape for that for sure. Have fun! |

Check www.USABMX.com and see if there's a track nearby. You can start with guys your age as a novice and figure it out without jumping right in the fire. |
Thanks for the link, I'm going to have to check it out....not!
I will say that I've ridden SeaTac and Sumner and just putzin around it's exhausting. Jason is defiantly "the pusher" when it comes to getting out and having fun. He's also a heck of a bicycle tour guide and Tacoma historian, thanks for that! |

It's so weird (or not) that this thread cropped up after the in-depth BMX bike discussion I had with somebody at Thunderhill (USCA)--it was the guy on the cool Torker cruiser. There's sooo much bitchin' 80s cred here...
I happen to live in mountain bike mecca, but my mountain bike is basically a 29er BMX bike, being that it's a hardtail singlespeed. I've even got a half-done mini trail system in my yard.. Here's the hipster road bike I sometimes ride on lake trails (bought new in 2004): |
That would be Steve on the Torker, he's the one who pushed me to get my GT and is also a founding member of the BeerMX crew. Jason's Jedi mind tricks were too powerful for him, he's got a race bike and is known to follow people around the track watching their lines....I'm not sure if anyone has told him it's a one lap race!
|
Yes Basher I am slow around the BMX track, but Im okay with that, it is pretty damn fun though!

So, a buddy of mine has a circa 79'? Nickel plated Mongoose with "Tuffy's",he'll never sell it (it is pretty bad-a$$), what is something like that worth?

I had a Mongoose Californian with Skyway Tuff IIs (Skyway was actually part of a display they had in the CA state capitol building in the mid-80s), circa 1983. It was a mixed-metals frame (from Taiwan), with the rear made of mild steel instead of chromoly--it was all chome (like my present Bianchi). Of stupid things to eat at a person, this really annoyed me at times...
That bike was stolen twice, and recovered by the cops twice. Talk about a hot bike... My current (dirt) bike evokes the white-paint thing that caught on (and stuck with me) in the mid-to-late '80s--you can't forget the Redlines, Profiles, Hutches, GTs (freestyle), and whatnot in white... |
