He is not listed as an owner on their website. I know Rob Kauffman was the big money backer. I wonder what roll this guy played in the company. I know someone who used to work there but left a few years ago.

Ah found it....

125.00 per hour and they don't even insure the vehicle while in their facility.

Crazy

what a disgusting prick.

Streetking 05-29-2015 06:29 AM

I don't get people like that. Do they really think their actions won't come back and bite them in the ass? How embarrassing for his family and RK. Crazy...

That's actually not uncommon. At our shop, there are anywhere from 80-200 cars on lot at any time. None of those cars are insured by our policy and are instead covered by their owner's policies. This is of course a large, production collision shop. A friend of mine ran a large classic car consignment business for roughly 25 years and always had 300 cars on site. His inventory also was insured by its titled owners. At your shop the cars are 10 times more valuable and typically under construction or revision for a duration much longer than mine so I'm not sure if your policy would cover them or not.

Having said that, sounds like Carrol will be taking group showers pretty soon. What a scumbag.

Your talking about 2 different elements, your bringing cars in off the street that were wrecked and still under the same insurance policy that drove down the street on. Its just insane to have a shop that builds 6 figure cars at 125 per hour and they do not cover the insurance. It's getting harder and harder to insure these projects on the customer side as there is no real way to put a value on a pile of parts that is not painted or running but worth 100k. We keep a running total each month to insure the cars for build cost until the project is handed over to the customer. And for a big time shop like that place is representing to be and charging what might be one of the largest hourly rates for what I saw was average work on a complete time and materials basis seems like a huge scam.

I know this is way off topic, but I have never heard or seen any of the cars they are promoting on their page before.

The cars in their inventory a large portion of them are cars they bought at Barrett Jackson or Mecum. John Parson Nova is in their inventory currently.

The silver bullet Camaro they have was locally built here in Portland. Sold at Barrett in Vegas for $70k then was at Barrett Scottsdale this year sold for $99k now its on their inventory.

Your making my point, They are not known for building any certain car.

Name one car they built in house, that either of us have heard of?

I agree. I might only be 36 yrs old but my ear has been to the ground since the mid 90's. If they were SO amazing to charge that much I'm sure I would (we) have seen or heard of them or a car they've built from when? 07 until now....glorified flipper.

Oh I thought this RK place was a consignment business. I didn't know they built anything. How do you guys access the value of the cars under construction in your shop? Maybe by labor and parts? I know Hagerty offers a policy for cars being built. I have that policy on my '64 currently.

All cars in my shop are insured for build cost each month.

NOPANTS68 05-31-2015 06:14 AM

And you guys are covering those costs?

We cover that expense every month on active projects. The customer pays a storage fee, if the project is on hold.

cjsgarage 05-31-2015 06:16 PM

You guys are making me want to revisit my shop insurance policy.

is there a reason I should be covering the vehicle separately from the owner's insurance policy?

Revved 06-03-2015 11:45 AM

I knew RK had a service facility to handle minor issues with cars that came across their floor but didn't realize that they were a "builder." and yeah.... $125 an hour is huge money especially with these cars that consume cubic hours.

He screws this guy for 22 years and his "recommended sentence is 3 1/2 years." This victim will spend the rest of his life trying to unwind what this JA has perpetrated upon him and the crook only has to pay him $15,000 of restitution? How about you ad a 0 to the end of that number and it might start to compensate this victim for stealing his life. If they don't start going hard on these identity theft cases then why shouldn't they keep doing it?

hotwhls 06-16-2015 12:24 PM

Anyone have any updates on this? He was suppose to have his hearing on June 12th.

GregWeld 06-17-2015 05:25 PM

As we all know - all used cars can be "problems" - but to me - it's how the car is REPRESENTED in order to make a sale... if it's represented honestly fine... if not - that's when people get PO'd

I also found this about a previous business.... Seem maybe this guy has a history of BS deals....

I also found this recent article which states he's no longer with RK Motors - and has entered into a plea agreement.

Sentencing was delayed for a week... the author of one of the articles said in response to my emailing him.

GregWeld 06-30-2015 10:47 AM

I don't understand why these guys don't go straight to prison.... crime DOES pay apparently.

I see lots of their cars on the net!!!

MarkM66 07-01-2015 08:07 AM

Why did it take 22 years for the guy to realize he had millions of dollars in loans taken out in his name?

cwylie 07-01-2015 08:11 AM

Wow probation really? And he gets to keep all his stuff?
