And the SMOY goes to.....
|
Interesting
|
Wow! From photos, this year looked to be one of the most competitive throughout the entire field!
|
I was totally surprised by the final 5 except for the Vette. They were all great but the ones that were left out was equally if not more impressive. Ring bros Chevelle, any of the 3 chargers were deserving more imo. And even though the rs mustang was my favorite of the whole show it wasn't nearly as impressive as others

What's with the hood on the camaro?
Any other pics of the finalist? |
I'm a more than a little surprised at this. Seems a little odd that the builder of the just debuted give away car goes on to win with the Vette. Can't fathom that Recoil didn't make the top 5??
|
Good mix of diverse cars this year. Congrats to the finalists and the owner/builders of the Vette.

Not very many people are happy about this years picks, DSE pulled out saturday night and left the event with there display, To bad, It use to be a honor to win or even get in Top 5
|

As with everything else in this world, when things seem to start getting too big of a show, event, class, etc....MONEY and POLITICS will surely sneak in and takeover. It doesn't matter how honest things will try to be at first, but with the success of anything and they growth of that thing comes value. MONEY is that value, money has value, money equates to value. And wherever there's money....surely there's POLITICS.

2 out of 5 were deserved from my option, those Chargers were as nice as possible.

This year was interesting all the way around. The change to keep the SMOY and SROY contenders in the building was different, and kind of nice. When they chose the Top 5 in each category, and then tried to talk over the engines and DJ, coordinate, and manage bringing the 10 vehicles to the front, interview the owners and builders, and then - finally - get to the awards - it showed the idea wasn't fully fleshed out before being initiated.
It was definitely nice to have them all in the building at the end, but not very well executed. I was more than fidgety in my seat by the time the winners were announced - and then they still wanted people to sit tight for the giveaway unveiling - no way. The biggest issue: I had no incentive to return today. The weather seems (from my home) to have held up, but I really saw all I wanted to see yesterday... I used to go back on Sundays for the All-American show, and to cap the event off with the Big 10 in the building and (hopefully) some good ol rock and roll. I don't mean to sound negative - just an opinion on the new order of events. Overall, I loved the show this year. I was in 7th Heaven. I did the after party Friday, slept three hours, the show all day Saturday, then after parties at both host hotels Saturday, before my adrenaline finally wore down enough to get a full night's sleep. I love this show. |

I think Ring Bros had "technical difficulties" that may of took them out of contention.
I'm surprised DSE would of left over sour grapes. They won a best product award with their 3rd gen stuff. Sunday allows those cars, so I would think they'd be more concerned with promoting parts then SMOY. |
"You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" it's all part of the industry...I'd be willing to bet if some of the shops here decided to be politically incorrect people would see how things work. It all works out for everyone, unless it doesn't.

I can see why the Vette won. Clean and simple. All the others were loaded with custom touches, that it overwhelmed the cars.

I was surprised by the picks. There were some awesome cars there this year for sure. Who are the judges? - -just curious as to what their background and qualifications are. It may shed some light as to what they are looking for/at.... Who knows? As the saying goes...opinions are like a certain part of the anatomy! Hard to ignore the connection between the give away car and the winner though. |

The entire field of contenders was clearly over the top this year, just from the pictures it looked to be tough competition. Goldman built a very nice Corvette and put it up against some of the best in the country, kudos to them. |

The builds these days have become so impressive I will definitely remember the standouts for their details and design, an almost assuredly forget about who won what. |
Yeah, I climbed all over all the contestants, and to me the G3 Camaro was by far the best!

I don't think he made the second trip around the track. |
It was a great field of cars this year. All very quality. Older debuts didn't seam to fair well. But the finalist were all very deserving as well and I would say see the cars in person before passing too much negativity. Just my irrelevant two cents
Also I do know that there was and is a well qualified group of judges that consists of goodguys and builders. |

For me personally, I loved the DSE Charger and the Gray '62 Impala. On another note, I really can't believe the build costs on these cars. From "rumors", $350k to over a mil!! Where does it end? I thought I was crazy for what I spent on my DSE Trans AM, it would be on the lower end of that scale! Lots of nice ideas, fit and finish though.

I would hate to be a judge at this level.
How do you choose between these cars? It's like picking your favorite child I'm sure. Some are more noticeably modified...while others are more subtle. Some have more cool gadgets, while some are "cleaner". Do you like '32 Fords more, or '69 Camaros? Or, are '40 Fords your fav? Do you like stacks...or the engine covered? Shiny, or matte? 1 winner, 4 cars that easily could have been. And 20 more that easily could have played. I would have nightmares! No thank you.... Bill |
Since when is car show judging fair and impartial? (like never)
The beauty of Columbus is the level of talent and field of cars. |
